I'm trying to upload a File into my MySQL-DB. The blob-field is declared as longblob (->4GB size). If I upload a file with 200KB, it gets correctly saved, but if I upload 2MB, there is no error (MAX_FILE_SIZE is more than 20MB), but the INSERT statement does not create any Record.
I cannot execute the statement manually because the binary code of the file is too big.
Is there any limit of file upload by the HTTP Server (or PHP's $_FILES-var?)

Check the setting of max_allowe_packet MySQL server variable. If it's too small, and your host won't increase it for you, you will need to split your fle into smaller parts and upload them part by part apending new packets to already uploaded ones.

Yes, there is a limit with your PHP server of the maximum file size allowed to upload.
You could try using a software like MySQL Workbench and edit the database directly from your computer.

It expects a filename now, rather than your suggested table. Either rename the table (use a pre- or suffix) or try to quote it in your query. These kind of things sadly happen, thus I always use a prefix on my tables, to make sure i dont encounter this kind of things.

Looking for some guidance here. I am building Nodejs/Express app with MySQL Database. I want to be able to click on the users image on the web page (initial image is generic), select a different image and upload/save new image into MySQL database. I using:

I get C:/fakepath... for image location. I would like to how to upload/save selected image to the MySQL database. Connection to database is established, and routes for regular data work just fine.
Before answering your question will suggest you to not save image into your MySql or any database, use IPFS, local application directory/folder, or best AWS s3 bucket.
You can use busboy.js NPM module or multer.js NPM module for file upload to server, there's lots of good reason to not save any kind of file in local database.
Now back to how you can save image in database. You can do so by first converting your image to a data format your MySql understand. By default image is binary and depending upon image selected some image binary is so big that even MySql text datatype is small for them. Converting binary to hexadecimal does help but still too big for MySql text datatype. Also you will need multipart/form-data for file upload.

I have a problem that has been annoying me for quite some time now and a few days ago I started googling for a solution, but I haven't really gotten anything to work. I've read a little about something called SSIS, but I'm not sure it does what I'm looking for or if there is something else I should research in order to accomplish my goal. This is my problem:
My accounting program produces and updates a .dbf file with information about all vouchers and places it in a folder on my local computer. Our MySQL must continually be updated with this information. So this is what I do twice a day:
I open up the .dbf file in excel
Save it as a .csv.
Close Excel
Open the file in notepad++
Convert the formating to utf8
Save
log in to MySQL
Go to the right table
Upload the .csv
Replace the old data with the new
As this takes quite a bit of time, I feel that there must be better ways to do this. It would be great if I could have this scheduled to be done automatically or if there is some kind of an SQL query that could do this, because then I could use PHP to make a website that I could enter and have the query run when I press a button or something.
So my question is: What is the most simple way to continually get the info from the .dbf file into my SQL server?
There is a way to do your job by shedule with DBF Commander Pro's command-line interface. Use the following command in a *.BAT file:
dbfcommander.exe -edb <dbf_file_name> <server_table_name> <connection_string>
After that, create a shedule for this BAT file using Windows Sheduler.
The only issue remains, that you need to clear the destination table on MySQL database before the export process.
In order to try the export process in app GUI, click 'File -> Export to DBMS'. In the window appears click Build button in order to build the connection string: select MS OLEDB Provider for MySQL Server, then choose your server from the list, provide login and password, select a database, click OK:
In the Export to DBMS window select the destination table you want to import source DBF file to, then click Export. The command line you need you can find at the bottom part of the window.

As you mention of doing in PHP. What is stopping you from doing it there.
You could create one connection handle using a VFPOleDB provider to open the path location of the table, open and read the table. Then have a SECOND connection to your MySQL database open and ready to push the data there.
Then, for each row read from the VFP OleDB connection result set, do whatever special cleansing you need to.
Then, query from the MySQL connection if its an existing entry or not and if an add or update is necessary, then send the data respectively.
Continue for the rest of the records from the VFP result set.
No need to open in Excel, save to CSV format, load yet another tool, etc...
I have a CGI program I have written using Perl. One of its functions is to upload pics to the server.
All of it is working well, including adding all kinds of info to a MySQL db. My question is: How can I get the uploaded pic files location and names added to the db?
I would rather that instead of changing the script to actually upload the pics to the db. I have heard horror stories of uploading binary files to databases.
Since I am new to all of this, I am at a loss. Have tried doing some research and web searches for 3 weeks now with no luck. Any suggestions or answers would be greatly appreciated. I would really hate to have to manually add all the locations/names to the db.
I am using: a Perl CGI script, MySQL db, Linux server and the files are being uploaded to the server. I AM NOT looking to add the actual files to the db. Just their location(s).
It sounds like you have your method complete where you take the upload, make it a string and toss it unto mysql similar to reading file in as a string. However since your given a filehandle versus a filename to read by CGI. You are wondering where that file actually is.
If your using CGI.pm, the upload, uploadInfo, the param for the upload, and upload private files will help you deal with the upload file sources. Where they are stashed after the remote client and the CGI are done isn't permanent usually and a minimum is volatile.
You've got a bunch of uploaded files that need to be added to the db? Should be trivial to dash off a one-off script to loop through all the files and insert the details into the DB. If they're all in one spot, then a simple opendir()/readdir() type loop would catch them all, otherwise you can make a list of file paths to loop over and loop over that.
If you've talking about recording new uploads in the server, then it would be something along these lines:
user uploads file to server
script extracts any wanted/needed info from the file (name, size, mime-type, checksums, etc...)
start database transaction
insert file info into database
retrieve ID of new record
move uploaded file to final resting place, using the ID as its filename
if everything goes file, commit the transaction
Using the ID as the filename solves the worries of filename collisions and new uploads overwriting previous ones. And if you store the uploads somewhere outside of the site's webroot, then the only access to the files will be via your scripts, providing you with complete control over downloads.

I suppose that i have to read the blob entry and using php file commands create the file (am i right)
What about image type. Should i save as jpg (what if the store image is not jpg)

you can write the blob directly to a file on disk. you can exclude the file extension from the name if you don't have that information somewhere in the db or the app. you could also deduce the content type by using the unix file command if you really need to assign an extension.
