I'm creating a quiz with buttons and I'm new to ActionScript 3.0, but very familiar with 2.0.
I have a variable inside of a MC called NextQuestion. When it reaches a certain frame, it changes to 1, then back to 0.
On the main timeline, when NextQuestion == 1, it's supposed to NextFrame();. I can't get it to work though, this is the last thing I'm having trouble with.
This is my main code with 4 buttons, 3 wrong, 1 right. The feedback MC plays an animation, and when it finishes, it sets the VAR NextQuestion to 1, which is supposed to make the main timeline advance to the NextFrame.

The nextFrame() method in AS3 doesn't loop trough your movieClips, it just set's the movie clip to the next frame provided there is a next frame, otherwise it does nothing.
you might want to re-write the nextFrame() to:

Thats regarding why the movie clip might not start from the beginning.
Another thing that look weird is that you need a FRAME_ENTER event to check if the answer is correct. You must have a lot of spam in the output log. I'd recommend you to totally ditch the ENTER_FRAME event listener for this and do it all with the CLICKED event and dispatching the event from the feedback1 object.
As much as I understand the movie clip plays when you click a button and when the animation is over you want to either progress to next frame or do nothing. If so, on the feedback1 object add a following line in the end of animation for label "right1":
dispatchEvent(new Event("right"));
and instead of the line feedback1.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, answerRight1); have:
feedback1.addEventListener("right", answerRight1);
That way you won't need to check the answer on every frame and you don't need to check if the answer is right or not, because when the dispatchEvent(new Event("right")); fires - it's always right.

Ok, so I'm a beginner at AS3 and Flash and I managed to put this code together for an animation. A Button called start_btn is supposed to start and stop a movieclip called main_mc. On the first click of the Button, the Movieclip is supposed to play (which it does), however on the second click, the movie stops in the middle of its animation (which I don't want). My question is, when you click the Button a second time, how can i get the Movieclip to finish playing its animation then stop on the last frame?
I thought about using if (main_mc.currentFrame == main_mc.totalFrames); {main_mc.stop(); but the Movieclip still does not stop on the last frame. The Movieclip itself also has a gotoAndPlay(2); command on the last frame so that the animation repeats before the Button is clicked a second time.

I was going to provide a quick and dirty solution, but decided instead to try and explain a few of the issues with your current implementation and attempt to refactor and explain and better one. Unfortunately I don't have access to Flash right now, so the code is untested.
You're adding and removing event listeners often, which is generally a bad idea. Instead, since you're using a single button to perform multiple functions it would make sense to track the button state in a separate variable. In this case, a boolean for whether or not the movieclip is currently playing.

Now we can combine the mainaniS and mainaniSt into one and perform a different action based on whether or not the movieclip is playing, and just keep the one eventlistener on the button. I've also taken the liberty of naming the method something more meaningful:

You may be wondering why we don't call main_mc.stop() in the first block: the reason is that you don't want to stop the movieclip as soon as you click the button, but after the movieclip has finished playing if the button has been clicked. Therefore, we just set playing to false to indicate that we want it to stop later.
Finally, we need to make sure the movieclip stops upon completion, but only if playing is false. To do this we add a listener to movieclip that is called every frame, and checks whether playing is false, and if it's on the last frame. Note that the last frame is actually totalFrames - 1: this is because the frame numbers start from zero rather than one (i.e. if totalFrames is 3, the frame numbers will be 0, 1, 2).

I have a video i am playing on the stage, once the video has stopped playing I either want the video to be removed or to go to a new frame.
I have tried using playheadTime to do this but it doesn't work.

It's working fine so far.
Issue is when a sound clip is already running and i click on any link nothing happens.
I tried to stop the already playing sound on click of link, but there is no direct event for that in HTML5's Audio API
I tried following code but it's not working

Instead of stop() you could try with:
sound.pause();
sound.currentTime = 0;
This should have the desired effect.
first you have to set an id for your audio element
in your js :

I was having same issue. A stop should stop the stream and onplay go to live if it is a radio. All solutions I saw had a disadvantage:
player.currentTime = 0 keeps downloading the stream.
player.src = '' raise error event
My solution:

Here is my way of doing stop() method:
Somewhere in code:
audioCh1: document.createElement("audio");
and then in stop():

In this way we don`t produce additional request, the old one is cancelled and our audio element is in clean state (tested in Chrome and FF) :>

audio.currentTime = 0;
But if you don't want to have to write these two lines of code every time you stop an audio you could do one of two things. The second I think is the more appropriate one and I'm not sure why the "gods of javascript standards" have not made this standard.
First method: create a function and pass the audio

I have this in a javascript file I called "AudioPlus.js" which I include in my html before any script that will be dealing with audio.
Then you can call the stop function on audio objects:

FINALLY CHROME ISSUE WITH "canplaythrough":
I have not tested this in all browsers but this is a problem I came across in Chrome. If you try to set currentTime on an audio that has a "canplaythrough" event listener attached to it then you will trigger that event again which can lead to undesirable results.
So the solution, similar to all cases when you have attached an event listener that you really want to make sure it is not triggered again, is to remove the event listener after the first call. Something like this:
//note using jquery to attach the event. You can use plain javascript as well of course.

Note that you can add even more custom methods to the Audio class (or any native javascript class for that matter).

From my own javascript function to toggle Play/Pause - since I'm handling a radio stream, I wanted it to clear the buffer so that the listener does not end up coming out of sync with the radio station.

Turns out, just clearing the currentTime doesn't cut it under Chrome, needed to clear the source too and load it back in. Hope this helps.

by setting currentTime manually one may fire the 'canplaythrough' event on the audio element. In the link it mentions Firefox, but I encountered this event firing after setting currentTime manually on Chrome. So if you have behavior attached to this event you might end up in an audio loop.

This is indeed what will happen, and pausing will also trigger the pause event, both of which make this technique unsuitable for use as a "stop" method. Moreover, setting the src as suggested by zaki will make the player try to load the current page's URL as a media file (and fail) if autoplay is enabled - setting src to null is not allowed; it will always be treated as a URL. Short of destroying the player object there seems to be no good way of providing a "stop" method, so I would suggest just dropping the dedicated stop button and providing pause and skip back buttons instead - a stop button wouldn't really add any functionality.

I was looking for something similar due to making an application that could be used to layer sounds with each other for focus. What I ended up doing was - when selecting a sound, create the audio element with Javascript:

What I like to do is completely remove the control using Angular2 then it's reloaded when the next song has an audio path:

Then when I want to unload it in code I do this:

When the next song is assigned, the control gets completely recreated from scratch:

The simple way to get around this error is to catch the error.
audioElement.play() returns a promise, so the following code with a .catch() should suffice manage this issue:

In IE 11 I used combined variant:
player.currentTime = 0;
player.pause();
player.currentTime = 0;
Only 2 times repeat prevents IE from continuing loading media stream after pause() and flooding a disk by that.

I'm using greensock LoaderMax to load video files and sound files. I've copied as much code as is available to me. A video (s9) is playing and at a certain percentage through the video, I need to play another sound.

You should be able to just listen for the INIT event on the video (which typically means it has loaded enough to determine the duration of the video) and then add an AS cue point.
