Struts2 Application hides my exceptions after adding Interceptor - exception

So I have a Struts2 application that I'm working on. On my front page I have a section that will display any exceptions my application throws. This worked well until I added a custom Interceptor.
Here is my interceptor code:

This is the code in my Action class where the exception gets generated, it occurs where AuthService.Authorize() is called:

How is your interceptor stack defined for that action? The ExceptionMappingInterceptor should be defined first in the stack. Can you post the interceptor stack configuration from your struts.xml? Your custom interceptor should not be interfering (it does nothing).

I was able to reproduce this issue, however it occurs for me with or without your custom interceptor.
The reason is that you are specifically looking for the exception message, which is not set for NullPointerExceptions that are automatically thrown (as in your case). You can confirm this by instead displaying the stack trace, such as: %{exceptionStack}
%{exception.message} is null for the NullPointerException, and so it displays nothing. If instead you were to throw an exception with a message (e.g., throw new RuntimeException("OMG!");), then you will see the message.
Also, note that you must specify more specific exception mappings before less specific mappings in your struts.xml. Because NullPointerException is more specific than Exception, you must list it first. Note that this doesn't really matter in your example, because they map to the same thing. Just know that your NPE will map to the first entry, not the second.

Jersey unable to catch any Jackson Exception

For my REST api I'm using jersey and ExceptionMapper to catch global exceptions.
It works well all the exception my app throws but I'm unable to catch exception thrown by jackson.
For example one of my endpoint accept an object that contains an enum. If the Json in the request has a value that is not in the enum jersey throw this exception back
Can not construct instance of my.package.MyEnum from String value 'HELLO': value not one of declared Enum instance names: [TEST, TEST2]

Even though I have created this mapper

Note: I have jus tried being less general and instead of JsonMappingException I use InvalidFormatException in this case the mapper is called. But I still don't understand because InvalidFormatException extends JsonMappingException and should be called as well

The problem is that JsonMappingExceptionMapper kicks in before your mapper. The actual exception is of class com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.exc.InvalidFormatException and the mapper defines com.fasterxml.jackson.jaxrs.base.JsonMappingException, so it's more specific to the exception.
You see, Jersey's exception handler looks to find the most accurate handler (see org.glassfish.jersey.internal.ExceptionMapperFactory#find(java.lang.Class, T)).
To override this behavior, simply disable the mapper from being used:
Using XML:

But I think it's an over kill.
Hi it seems to exits an alternative answer now that does not require to disable Jersey AUTO_DISCOVERY feature.
Just annotate your own exception mapper with a #Priority(1) annotation. The lower the number, the higher the priority. Since Jackson's own mappers do not have any priority annotation, yours will be executed:

Handling wrapped exception in Camel

Now my "someBeanID" throws ChildException while processing, but ParentExceptionHandler is being invoked for that. Code snippet in "someBeanID" is as below

It seems that whenever we wrap any exception, Camel automatically finds the actual wrapped exception and invokes handler for that, instead of invoking handler for wrapper exception. Why is this? Is there any problem in my code ??

When trapping multiple exceptions, the order of the onException clauses is significant. Apache Camel initially attempts to match the thrown exception against the first clause. If the first clause fails to match, the next onException clause is tried, and so on until a match is found. Each matching attempt is governed by the following algorithm:
If the thrown exception is a chained exception (that is, where an exception has been caught and rethrown as a different exception), the most nested exception type serves initially as the basis for matching. This exception is tested as follows:
If the exception-to-test has exactly the type specified in the onException clause (tested using instanceof), a match is triggered.
If the exception-to-test is a sub-type of the type specified in the onException clause, a match is triggered.
If the most nested exception fails to yield a match, the next exception in the chain (the wrapping exception) is tested instead. The testing continues up the chain until either a match is triggered or the chain is exhausted.

How can I wait on tasks without throwing TaskCanceledExceptions?

I have a method that creates some Tasks, and then waits on them with WaitAll before returning. The problem is, if those tasks got canceled, then WaitAll throws an AggregateException containing lots of TaskCanceledExceptions.
That means that WaitAll will throw exceptions in two different circumstances:
Exceptions that indicate a genuine error. These mean that there was a condition we didn't know how to handle; they need to propagate as unhandled exceptions, until they eventually terminate the process.
Exceptions that indicate that the user clicked a Cancel button. These mean that the task was canceled and cleaned up, and the program should continue running normally.
The latter fits squarely into the definition of a vexing exception: it's an exception thrown in a completely non-exceptional circumstance, so I have to catch it in order to resume normal control flow. Fortunately it's easy to catch, right? Just add catch (AggregateException) and -- oh wait, that's the same type that gets thrown when there's a fatal error.
I do need to wait for the tasks to finish running before I return (I need to know that they're no longer using their database connections, file handles, or anything else), so I do need the WaitAll or something similar. And if any of the tasks faulted, I do want those exceptions to propagate as unhandled exceptions. I just don't want exceptions for cancel.
How can I prevent WaitAll from throwing exceptions for canceled tasks?
The AggregateException provides a Handle method that can be used for these situations. If for example you want to ignore TaskCanceledException you can do:

Groovy end exception different from exception thrown

I am running into an extremely strange behavior in Groovy. When I throw an exception from a closure in a Script, the end exception that was thrown was different.
Here are the code and the details:

So the plan is that when I run the main() method in TestDelegate, it will run the DSL script, which calls for the method method(). Not finding it in the script, it will invoke methodMissing, which then invokes method() from myDelegate, which in turns invoke the closure, setting the delegate to the testDelegate. So far, so good. Then the closure is supposed to try printing out "a", which is not defined and will thus set off propertyMissing, which will will throw MyOwnException.
When I run the code, however, I get the following output:
Will throw error now!
Exception in thread "main" groovy.lang.MissingPropertyException: No such property: a for class: TestDelegate
Now, it must have reached that catch block, since it printed "Will throw error now!" It must have thrown MyOwnException too! But somewhere along the lines, MyOwnException was converted to MissingPropertyException, and I have no idea why. Does anyone have any idea?
P.S. if I remove closure.setResolveStrategy(Closure.DELEGATE_FIRST) from TestDelegate#method(), the code acts as expected and throws MyOwnException. But I really need the setResolveStrategy(Closure.DELEGATE_FIRST) for my DSL project. And I would prefer to know the root cause of this rather than just removing a line or two and see that it works without understanding why.
I think this is what essentially happens: With a delegate-first resolve strategy, the Groovy runtime first tries to access property a on myDelegate, which results in a MissingPropertyException because no such property exists. Then it tries propertyMissing, which causes a MyOwnException to be thrown. Eventually the runtime gives up and rethrows the first exception encountered (a design decision), which happens to be the MissingPropertyException.
With an owner-first resolve strategy, propertyMissing is consulted first, and hence MyOwnException is eventually rethrown.
Looking at the stack trace and source code underneath should provide more evidence.

ASP.NET Javascript Converter does not seem to be invoked

I have an ASP.NET 3.5 SP1 web application that uses a custom JavaScriptConverter. The code used to work at some time in the past, but has stopped working. I do not know what changes have happened in the middle server side. The problem we are seeing now is that the converter is not being invoked, so we are getting errors that System.Data.DataRow cannot be serialized.

What seems to happen is that the class is indeed being loaded (if we take it out of web.config and the project references, no breakpoints are available; put it back into web.config and copy the DLL/PDB by hand or add it to the project, breakpoints are available), but it's not being used propertly. No breakpoint anywhere in the class is hit, and no exceptions (including one thrown in a constructor added to see what happens) are thrown. It seems like the class is being loaded but never called.
This is on IIS 7.5 and IIS 7.0 in Integrated mode, if it matters.
Anyone have any ideas?
OK, just in case anyone else hits this, when calling web services through the automatically generated test pages, the custom serializers are not invoked - they are bypassed. This is apparently by design.
