The setup works perfectly if I reference the local drive E:\repo* but doesnt work if I specify the network as above; I've given the server (MERCDEV01$) full permissions on the shared folder on COMP3254, I can't think of any other reason it wouldn't work.
Could be a delegation problem. You can NTLM-authenticate to the webserver (and your credentials will be trusted on its local drives), but the webserver can't authenticate you to a remote location, because it does not know your password (i.e. it can't delegate your credentials).
Have you tried setting up the network location as a virtual directory on the server? You can then enter credentials IIS will cache and use for accesses to that location.
hgwebdir doesn't work for me either with UNC paths - It means you can't use it as a server without hosting the repos on the same machine as the web server.
Ok.. I solved it. The user running the web server (Apache in my case) defaulted to Local System, which does not have permission to access network resources. When I changed it to a user with domain access (and gave that user admin access to the local machine) everything worked fine.
Running a web server with that sort of privilege is of course risky - but in my case it is an internal server. Presumably you can cherry pick just the right permissions to do this in a more secure manner.

With MySQL, you can connect via localhost "socket" or networking "TCP/IP" connections. The user accounts in MySQL exist separately from each other, so if your user account exists with host value 'localhost' the TCP/IP connection probably won't work for you. Also note that, depending on how you installed MySQL and how it's configured, it might not even listen for network connections. Normally, localhost is preferred if you are on the same machine.
In MySQL Workbench, you need to give the hostname or IP address when selecting "Standard (TCP/IP)" from the "Connection Method" dropdown. This is simply the hostname or IP address, not a complete URL or web site. So you'd set the hostname to "127.0.0.1" or "192.168.9.34" or whatever. Again, Local Socket/Pipe is usually a better choice in most cases.
MySQL uses its own networking port (3306) and communication protocol, so using http://127.0.0.1 is incorrect as it isn't using the http protocol. Likewise, if you would need to change the port for some reason, specify that in the port field rather than as a part of the hostname.
As for phpMyAdmin, you would install that to a folder that is handled by your web server, then access it through the URL/path exposed by the web server — by default, your user home directory is not shared to the web (and rightly so, I don't want all of my documents and files shared with the world!). Put the phpMyAdmin folder in your web root and you'll have better success. Which folder that is probably depends a lot on which webserver you are running, how it is installed, and how you configured it.
I won't comment on the Python scripts you've run in the past, as my experience with serving Python to the web requires adjusting some settings in my nginx configuration and I won't want to confuse you compared to the tutorials you're following.
Ok so I have an app with a Node/Express API and everything works fine on localhost. I'm trying to figure out how to make everything work on CPanel that's running on Apache. The client side stuff but I am unable to fetch any data from the backed. I've searched and looked, yes, but I'm still quite unsure on how to approach this. Do I have to use a Virtual Host and if so what are the specific steps I need to do?
NodeJS doesn't run on Apache or Nginx. Most you can do in these web servers is to set a reverse proxy.
NodeJS has its own web-server. cPanel won't help you in that regard, since you only need to install NodeJS on your server (you must have SSH access-root), and run it from there. You can daemonize your Node process to keep running installing PM2 or Forever (NPM Packages).
Here's a good answer (search before asking, the issue might be solved by then).
Run node.js on cpanel hosting server
cPanel typically runs Apache or another web server that is shared among all the cPanel/unix accounts. The web server listens on port 80. Depending on the domain name in the requested URL, the web server uses "Virtual Hosting" to figure out which cPanel/unix account should process the request, i.e. in which home directory to find the files to serve and scripts to run. If the URL only contains an IP address, cPanel has to default to one of cPanel accounts.
Ordinarily, without root access, a job run by a cPanel account cannot listen on port 80. Indeed, the available ports might be quite restrictive. If 8080 doesn't work, you might try 60000. To access a running node.js server, you'll need to have the port number it's listening on. Since that is the only job listening on that port on that server, you should be able to point your browser to the domain name of any of the cPanel accounts or even the IP address of the server, adding the port number to the URL. But, it's typical to use the domain name for the cPanel account running the node.js job, e.g. http://cPanelDomainName.com:60000/ .
Of course port 80 is the default for web services, and relatively few users are familiar with optional port numbers in URLs. To make things easier for users, you can use Apache to "reverse proxy" requests on port 80 to the port that the node.js process is listening on. This can be done using Apache's RewriteRule directive in a configuration or .htaccess file. This reverse proxying of requests arguably has other benefits as well, e.g. Apache may be a more secure, reliable and manageable front-end for facing the public Internet.
Unfortunately, this setup for node.js is not endorsed by all web hosting companies. One hosting company that supports it, even on its inexpensive shared hosting offerings, is A2Hosting.com. They also have a clearly written description of the setup process in their Knowledge Base.
Finally, it's worth noting that the developers of cPanel are working on built-in node.js support. "If all of the stars align we might see this land as soon as version 68," i.e. perhaps early 2018.

I am integrating wirecloud and fiware-idm. Installed both through docker successfully. However, after installing fiware-idm, i am not able to login from admin. username - admin#test.com password - 1234.
Everytime it redirect it to "ip:3000/auth/login". Do I have to make any other configuration in wirecloud or fiware-idm?
Also, even after entering wrong credential, it redirects me to /auth/login and does not display any error message.
My wirecloud, fiware-idm and mysql database are in different containers. Is this can be the issue?
IdM should be deployed on production to be used by WireCloud. That is, you should configure the IDM service using public domains names, using https, and so on... Seems you are creating a local installation, so you should deploy some workarounds. Well, some of those requirements are not enforced by WireCloud, so it should be enough by ensure you use a domain name for accessing the IdM.
You can simulate having the idm server configured using public domains by adding the proper value to /etc/hosts (See this link if you are running windows), the correct value depends on how did you configured the IdM service. So, the idea is to ensure the domain used for accessing the idm resolves to the correct ip address both in the WireCloud container and from your local computer. We can provide you more detailed steps if you provide us more details about how are you launching the different containers.
How to create a WordPress website when the hosting package that was given by T-Home (T-Mobile) only includes a FTP password and FTP username, but doesn't include an access to a hosting panel or a remote access to MySQL?
If you've been provided a MySQL database, but you just can't access it remotely then this shouldn't be a problem. You can just upload the Wordpress installation files via FTP and then open your website in your browser and you can configure everything with the WordPress installation wizard, which should automatically start once you uploaded everything to your webspace.
If your provider hasn't provided you a MySQL database I see no way to make this work. (You can create a Blog on http://wordpress.com though).

You can download WordPress installation zip in your local system, extract it and upload it on server using FTP account.
MySQL is generally installed in same server and you can use localhost as server name (no need to have remote access). Most of the providers do not provide remote mysql access to avoid security issues.
Once you have uploaded WordPress files on server, access your site with domain.com (if the domain is pointing to same server) OR if it does not point to server, you can access it with temporary URL and proceed with the installation steps.
The scenario:
You're behind a proxy server on Windows. You've configured TortoiseHg to use a proxy server; that is you've entered a server name/IP and port number. You are able to connect to the internet using Internet Explorer. But when you try to pull or push and it produces the error message "SSL error: unknown protocol".
(I plan to answer this myself.)
The cause is that Internet Explorer is using an automatic proxy configuration script and TortoiseHg is using a particular proxy server. IE is not using the same proxy server because the automatic script picked a different proxy server.
The solution is to enter the proxy server used by TortoiseHg in IE's connection settings, or figure out which proxy server you're using at the moment and tell TortoiseHg to use that one. You may need to browse an external web site before TortoiseHg can connect.
You can figure out which proxy server you're using by browsing with IE and then running the DOS command:
netstat
and you'll see some connections in the Foreign Address column on port 80 or 8080 (common proxy server ports).
In addition to your excellent tip, I offer one more...
If your company is using an automatic proxy script, then the proxy used for web browsing may not be the one you need for Mercurial. Thus if you try the proxy you find via netstat, and you get "getaddrinfo failed" errors in tortoise, then try this...
Get the proxy script address: IE->config->Internet Options->Connection->LAN ?Settings. Copy the url from the "Address" box.
Browse to that address and save the file to disk.
Open that file in notepad and scroll to the end, it probably ends with something like-- return "PROXY ipaddresshere:port" that's the IP and port you need.
Plug that IP and port into tortoise: right-click the repo, click settings, click proxy, put the ip and port into the Host field. I generally don't need user and password so try without it first.
