After asking this question (XAMPP Mercurial installation on Windows Apache --> HgWebDir.cgi Script Error) and reading though the whole internet including this question (How do I get Mercurial's hgwebdir working on Windows?) and all its links for about 10 hours, I seem to not be able to find a solution. I begun with this tutorial https://www.mercurial-scm.org/wiki/HgWebDirStepByStep ... and I really don't want to install ancient versions of Mercurial. I got my windows-apache to run Python scripts, CGI-Scripts, publish them in the wild, but hgwebdir just won't work.
Question 1:
Can someone please enrich his personal blog with a tutorial on how to install MERCURIAL on a WINDOWS XAMPP installation and make it visible to the world? I guarantee a lot of pageviews, as this is not a trivial problem. And this would sincerely help a lot of other people I guess.
Question 2:
For example, even after browsing half a day through everywhere, I just cannot find out, which version of python I need to pair with the freshest version of mercurial, and I get the "magic number is wrong"-error. This would be my question, if noone has time to make up a nice blogpost. Sorry for being a bit frustrated.

Okay, after all it was just a whole lot of directory-location-problems and a big version-problem (needed to use Python 2.6 with Mercurial 1.5.1). Got it working now. If I happen to write a full windows-guide, I'll add a comment.

Some years ago, Mercurial | TortoiseHG could exchange data bidirectionally easy with at least 2 Big Brothers:
Subversion, using HGSubversion
Git, using HG-Git
Current (6.0 versions of family) state - the ordinary users have none:
hg-subversion is broken (extension can't be loaded), bundled with THG (Mercurial ???) extension not updated since 2019 hgsubversion: 6a6ce9d9da35 2019-04-19 (extraction from my TortoiseHg\extension-versions.txt), external SVN-bindings exist only for Python 2.7 (while py3-movement inside Mercurial is live and active)
hg-git got some big troubles, starting from THG 4.9 (manual patching of library.zip was required), on 6 version the situation has gotten better (no patching), but still unsatisfactory for the common user - installing Python 2.7 (for single-user) and using pip isn't The Right Way (tm)
Are there any comments, additions, clarifications, recommendations on how to do it (if what I am doing is wrong)?
Addition after some testing: special verson tortoisehg-6.0hggit-x64.msi from Matt Harbison at least allow using hg-git with ssh-transport (not http yet) and can be recommended for every-day usage by ordinary user.
So, as a current maintainer of hg-git and former contributor to hgsubversion, I think I can provide some context here.
Regarding hgsubversion, the short answer that it is either dead or — at best — extremely dormant. Personally, I have not interacted with a Subversion repository in years, and that's a common experience. No-one has been sufficiently motivated to fix bugs, keep it working, and — last, but not least — make it work with Python 3.
For hg-git, a period of semi-dormant state meant that the TortoiseHg maintainers stopped bundling it. We now keep up with Mercurial releases, and I've requested that they reverse that decision. I believe they bundle Dulwich, but as I don't use Windows, I can't say for sure. That said, it's quite reasonable to want to use hg-git with TortoiseHg, and if you run into any specific issues, I'd suggest you file a bug with them — or perhaps add a comment to the bug I linked earlier.
Generally speaking, you should be able to use 0.10.x version of hg-git with most versions of TortoiseHg, as I believe they bundle Dulwich. In that case, enabling the extension should be as simple as:
hg clone -u 0.10.x http://foss.heptapod.net/mercurial/hg-git /path/to/repo
And then adding the following to your .hgrc:
[extensions]
hggit = /path/to/repo/hggit
Once TortoiseHg moves to Python 3.x, the default branch of hg-git will work with it again.
EDIT: I was wrong; they don't bundle Dulwich, it seems. On the bug for this, one of the maintainers posted a link to a packaged installer that includes hg-git & Dulwich. The next release, 6.1, should fix this. Please consider testing the installer, and report to the TortoiseHg maintainers whether it works as expected.
EDIT²: Please note that only SSH works with that installer, as they ran into some issues bundling urllib3, which is necessary for HTTP support.

This seems to be an issue with degit. Please check if you have 'git' installed on your system, and install it if you don't have (https://git-scm.com).

It depends on your OS and environment.
For instance, withastro/astro issue 2144 reports the exact same error message, but on Windows, using Linux on WSL2 (Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS).
Double-check your %PATH%/$PATH in your execution environment.

As I was researching this seems to be a general issue with NPM for those who uses SSH.
There's an open issue here: npm/cli#2610 which is still far from being resolved and it's a huge thread.
Some folks might be interested in these workarounds to get it working.

Also I've tried yarn, npm and pnpm, all of them seems to have same problem so I believe it's core problem of node.

Not a direct solution to your error message, but a general solution for those kinds of errors:
I would recommend doing the development inside docker containers, so called devcontainers.
Since you will develop in separate and isolated environments containing only the project's minimum dependencies and tools, it is a lot less likely to face OS specific issues in general.

I'm trying to instal SMW+ on MAMP on top of an existing Semantic Mediawiki (that installation went fine).
First problem: in Step 3 of the official SMW+ installation guide, the WYSIWYG editor doesn't have a link, and the SMWHalo extension locks up my wiki.
So, in Step 6, I've had to comment out # include_once('extensions/SMWHalo/includes/SMW_Initialize.php'); enableSMWHalo(); and require_once("$IP/extensions/WYSIWYG/WYSIWYG.php");
I figured it was related to SMWHalo on both counts. So, I hop over to the Halo Extension installation guide, which leads me to the Wiki Admin Tool installation guide (no link because I'm a noob), which is where I get stuck. I can't get smwadmin to become executable to save my life chmod +x smwadmin.sh returns nothing, and using smwadmin after that gives me "-bash: smwadmin: command not found"
And there, I'm stuck. My wiki still works just fine with those three lines commented out, but I obviously lose SMW+ functionality.
Any suggestions?
Just switch to regular SMW and use the Semantic Bundle to get a jumpstart. I'm afraid the SMW+ project, for all intents and purposes, is now dead :(
I knew this day would come, so I guess it is here. (P.S. I am on windows XP).
I am trying to use this program here. I installed it fine, but it doesnt seem to work when I type in equations. So I went back to the site and it says I need JRE version 5.0 or above, (check). Then it also says I need dvipng, which I dont think I have.
So I went to the site it tells me to, (here), and I downloaded the most recent one, "dvipng-1.14.tar.gz". I unzipped it and I have it all sitting in one directory.
Ok... now what?
Im afraid I need guidance on exactly how to proceed here. The readme and installation instructions say to run "./configure", then "make", etc, I opened the command prompt and did all that but doesnt recognize. I have never had to build in this way, I always used an IDE for compiling C++ programs that I write myself. (Anyway, why am I even having to make an exe why dont they just make one and let us download that?)
Very confused as to what I need to do here, appreciate some step by step help.

Even though Mohammad's problem was solved in the comments, I'll have a go at answering his question:
To run a build system that uses ./configure, you need something that can run shell scripts, as well as the usual suite of unix tools that the script expects, plus a compiler that behaves in the standard sort of way.
The two projects that I know of that do this are cygwin and MSYS. cygwin is aimed at creating a full POSIX environment on windows, while MSYS is an add-on to MinGW that aims to provide just the parts needed to run a ./configure script and build a program.
So I thought I would install Lazarus/Free pascal -latest version from the sourceforge website.
Downloaded the win32 version and install on my XP machine couple of nights ago.
Problem is, it can't seem to find any of its own files.
From the first and every subsequent run it comes up with an error which says it can't find its system.ppu file relating to win32.
I just ignore that error and it seems to still run.
I tried to make a simple calculator application and it couldn't even seem to find the system files or files in the project directory. After battling these problems and setting every single path I could find in all the setups to every directory I could find it eventually compiled and run the program - once, not been able to make it do it again.
I also tried to make a user component library following the instructions on the web and that won't work either because, you guessed it, it can't the files. This time it gives an error saying it can't find a Ttreeview component, despite not even using that component in the library.
Being able to follow search paths is pretty fundamental stuff that they don't seem to have mastered.
Anybody managed to get a working system going, or any tips to sort these problems out?
Did you install in the default directory c:\lazarus? I thought there was an issue with installing to another directory, especially if the path contains spaces.
Nine times out of ten, its the old config of an earlier Lazarus attempt, that still lingers somewhere in the "local app" part of the profile.
If nothing else helps uninstall Lazarus, download Lazarus CodeTyphon edition, and run install as admin.
