I tried to find an answer here but haven't seen anything yet.
I've been working on an AIR application with Flash CS4 (AS3) for the last two days. Yesterday when publishing I was able to install the application (or overwrite existing version) without a problem. Now whenever I publish a new AIR file, it constantly tells me it cannot be installed because the "AIR file is damaged".
There are no actionscript errors or compiler errors when publishing, and I've generated a new certificate at least 3 times already thinking that may expire daily?
Any ideas? Thanks
Has the publisher ID of your application changed?
This may be related to you changing your certificate, or any of the details in your certificate.
You can also get this problem if you don't timestamp the app.
My bet though is that your publisher ID has changed, you will be able to set this manually in the imminent release of AIR 1.5.3

I've been having the same problem. Its been driving me crazy. I'll let you know if I figure anything out. I'm reinstalling AIR now.
I don't think it has to do with your FLA file, because I've worked around this issue by moving my .FLA to a different computer (running OS X instead of XP) with Flash and it published fine. This is quite a hack work around, hope it might help.
It must be either problem of including Time Stamp, or don't writing application configuration file correctly.

Yesterday I started messing around with Adobe Scout. It gave me a message that said that my function times are not accurate because I'm running a debug mode (in a file that is compiling as an AIR app) and to try compiling a published version first. Thus began my foray into the exciting world of AIR certificates and Windows Installer packages. I made certificate, published it, opened the published package, installed it, opened the resulting file, and found... fanfare ... a rectangle object I draw with AS3 and nothing else. When I test the movie (debug version) in AIR, it has the rectangle as well as a 20x20 map of tiles that are created at runtime from a bitmap that is blitted into 16x16 tiles.
Huh? Do I need to do something special when publishing for AIR to embed the library item? Anyone have this issue publishing to AIR where library assets are unavailable at runtime?
Of course I'll post code if anyone thinks they would like to see it, but it all works fine in flash player, fine (albeit slow) in Adobe AIR for Desktop (when testing), just missing library assets when published and installed via Windows installer.
update
for that matter, when I publish a swf for playback on the web or flash player, a similar thing: just a colored background (per my .fla file settings) but no rectangle and no blitted bmp tiles. Could I be executing code before something is loaded, and when it is in a debug mode, the setup takes longer, so things have time to get loaded before trying to execute? I've tried to avoid this, but maybe failed?
So, apparently making an .exe file or AIR app doesn't stand alone from the library components. Their is probably a way to embed them in the project, but for my purposes, I found that just making sure that the .exe and necessary .png files are in the same source file solved the issue. The problem was that my .exe file was automatically getting compiled and saved into a different folder, so I thought that folder must have all the needed files in it.
So, the bottom line is just that an .exe or AIR file, when published, won't automatically have the needed files in the right places. It still needs to point to the correct file location for those files.
I have a weird problem in an windows phone 8 project (Visual Studio Express for windows phone 8) that Changes to xaml( ex:change visibility of control) don't reflect on App until I rebuild the project and deploy it again to emulator or device.
The changes reflect normally in the design window of visual studio but didn't reflect on the running App.
I did many researches and they didn't help, like:
1- Change "Build and Run" to "always build" when projects are out of date.
2- I checked configuration manager as This post suggests but it was selected.
I have the exact same issue. I have a work around at the moment to save the hassle of rebuilding the solution because rebuilding deletes and re-installs the app and changes any saved settings you've made while debugging. The work around is to switch between configurations. So I'll execute the app in Debug, make some changes, then the next time I execute I change config to Release, and the changes are there.
The difference I can see is when it works I can see the Build Output line which says "Updating the application as the manifest file has changed..." take a few moments to complete. When this issue occurs the output line appears for a split second and so you can tell the incremental deployment hasn't actually been deployed to the device/emulator.
This is a little frustrating so hopefully someone has a real answer. I have other projects on the same machine and they don't have this issue. Just the one project so I don't think its a VS2012 problem.
I've also tried suggestions from other sites saying delete bin and obj folders but that didn't work.
I had the same issue for some of my WP8 Silverlight projects in VS 2013. I couldn't understand why it happened only for some projects but not all, but eventually I found this forum thread. The solution is the following: if the name of your app includes spaces, you definitely need to remove them or replace say with the underscore char. This recipe helped to recover my 'problem' projects.
I also noticed that numbers at the beginning of app name cause the same problem. I solved it by removing numbers from solution and app name.
I'm relatively new to flash, air and AS3 so I'm sorry if this comes of as a beginners question. I have made an application in AIR to run on windows and communicate with my atmega8 chip through serial communication via serproxy.
Now I want to port that application to android to perform the same basic functions but communicate to the atmega8 via bluetooth. So I created a new Air for android file in Flash CS6 copied my code from my previous application excluding the communication through sockets part and created an apk which ran on an android phone:). It did everything except the communication as expected.
Now I have been trying to implement the as3breeze.com/bluetooth-ane and use it to communicate but I'm not too sure how to go about the whole thing. I have imported the ane through actionscript settings and have implemented the classes but when I try to test I get this error.
The content cannot be loaded because there was a problem loading an extension: Error: Extension namespace is invalid for C:\Users\AppData\Local\Temp\Tmp_ANE_File_Unzipped_Packages\AndroidBluetooth.ane
So after some searching I found posts talking about as3 sdk and flash builder. Do I really need all these things or can I make my bluetooth app work some how with just flash cs6? Also what exactly does my error mean and how can I solve it. Thanks in advance for any help. I have been searching so a solution to this for days and I either get an explanation that does not work or I lack the knowledge to understand.
The path that can't be accessed makes me believe you haven't extracted the ANE (basically you're trying to access a temporary directory). Try extracting the ANE file to somewhere, like My Documents or wherever your flash project is, and include (in the actionscript settings) that path instead.
Hope it helps.
I am looking for a tool that can help me converting my swf to exe and app. I know that there are several options available. My application will be frequently updated so update feature is essentions for me. Does anybody know a converter that might help me?
Any suggestions are welcome!
p.s. As another option, I can make app and exe out of a loader app that will load main application module every time it is updated.
IMPORTANT (added 22.08.2011)
Guys, thank you very much for your replies, but if you read carefully my question you will probably see that my main concern is about build in update feature inside projector eg. Mac app will be able to check for new version of my app automatically...
create an AIR application with native installers and use air.update and air.update.events for to push updates.
You can use flajector or f-in-box developer's library.
You may already be aware of this, but there is an existing publishing tool you can use inside of Flash Professional.
The publisher is in different menus on different versions of flash (CS4 to CS5) and on different operating systems (Windows vs Mac) so I'll just give you the "hot key"
While inside of flash, press Shift+Alt+F12 and that will bring up some publish options. For an exe file you will want to select Win Projector or the option with .exe. Mac Projector or .app will do the same for mac. Hit publish once your preference is select and viola, that's it!
you really want to use flajector. Cool programm.
Irritatingly, Flash Builder refuses to implement any changes I make to the program when I run it. I can't find any documentation of this anywhere online after a brief googling, just wondering if anyone has come across this problem before and/or found a solution? I don't want to have to export a release build every time I want to check if any changes have been implemented successfully (I'm just assuming that'd work)
It happened to me once before but I overcame this problem simply by starting a new project as there wasn't much of any significance, and couldn't easily fix it.
It's pretty much as simple as it sounds tbh, having returned to my computer a couple of hours after leaving it I find any changes to any part of the code have no impact on what is displayed when I go to run...
Any insight would be much appreciated
Thanks
Josh
It could be the cache of your browser. Clear your cache and see if that works..
It could also be because you have classes that are compiled in external swf's. If you compile in Flash Builder, you're not persee recompiling those classes. Instead, compile the external swf which has links to those classes.
You'd think if this were a bug in Flash Builder, people would be complaining about it a bit more often, check that your browser is updating properly, most likely you've got the SWF stuck in your browser cache.
Check the "clear application data on each launch" in Run/Debug Configuration window.
This will clear and uninstall existing app installed in your test device, so every new launch will have clean build.
Tips : Make sure to cmd/ctr + B first, In every run/build.
