I need to record a demo of our application. Can anyone recommend a good screen recorder?
I have tried CamStudio, but it's throwing errors. Any other good free software I should try?
try UVScreenCamera, i think it's normal
Camtasia studio does a great job.
In the case the app is cross-platform (java, web-based) you can ask a pal with a Mac to use Screenium, Snapz Pro or ScreenFlow.

You can do it with ScreenToaster without installing any software (kind of).
Otherwise if you prefer a traditional application Jing and Screen2EXE are both free.
Wink is freeware. From their homepage:

There are lots of screen recording tools around, both free and professional ones, but I haven’t seen anything like ScreenToaster before. It's very nice applications for screen recording.

What you are looking for is Bootstrap Studio, this is the description from their home page :
It comes with a large number of built-in components, which you can
drag and drop to assemble responsive web pages. The app is built on
top of the hugely popular Bootstrap framework, and exports clean and
semantic HTML.
I don't think there is any services that supports what you want (from what I've guessed when you say "drag and drop features"). Most of these online IDE sites that supports these features tries to sell you their services by publishing and broadcasting the entire webpage for you. Most online HTML IDE are only code based.
Regardless, I still strongly recommend Adobe Dreamweaver. It's quite versitile with drag and drop features to a certain margin. It also requires coding but its template is quite straight forward, code-wise, and visually appealing.
If you still want to give it a try, however, there is a life hack. This article may help you. You can try building the webpage on wix and then exporting HTML.

I'm on the hunt for an open-source version of Adobe Dreamweaver to use for my freelance web development projects. I'm primarily a source coder, but I would find a split or visual view for CSS and design work, as well as native FTP functionality, helpful. My work involves HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery, and ColdFusion. Native support for the latter, in particular, would be ideal.
I've come across the following programs that seem somewhat promising:
BlueGriffin (last stable version is dated June 19, 2013)
Brackets
CoffeeCup HTML Editor
A quick search here in the StackOverflow community turned up a couple of similar questions (see Dreamweaver alternative and Any open source alternatives for Dreamweaver using WebDav?), but I would appreciate more recent/modern alternatives.
I'm a Windows user running 8.1.
I'd love to know what others more experienced than me in this quest have uncovered.
To provide an update and answer to my question, I've found Brackets to be superior thus far. The editor is nifty in and of itself, but there's an absolute treasure trove of extensions to behold. For my specific needs, I found FTP-Sync and cfBrackets exceptionally helpful. They installed neatly and effortlessly.
Eclipse with the CFEclipse plugin , or CFBuilder (yes there is a free version)

I am looking to build a client-side dashboard framework where a user can create a new dashboard, add portlets, position them along a grid system, resize, close, ....
The dashboard look and feel should be controllable with CSS.
I am looking for a commercial-friendly open source solution to be used to create a d3.js based interactive dashboard system.

I'm C/C++, Java developer and now in order to put some variety into my work, I decided to start playing with web development - i'm using django. However, I'm hopeless with graphics and advanced css. I would like to build and ship some apps with elegant and simple design. Are there any frameworks/templates which let me build something great looking without photoshop skills?

You include the library on your HTML pages and it will give the page a tidy and modern look by default, without the need to define classes to HTML elements or do any CSS code.
Here is an example of my personal page. Only CSS work I had to do was the inclusion of Tacit, and the page gets that look, working both on Desktop and on Mobile.

Here you can find a nice comparison about responsive frameworks. In my personal experience, I've worked with Twitter Bootstrap on several projects and like it. Since I've used the other frameworks so extensively I cannot (or should not) say it's the best, but at least it fits my requirements and I find pleasing to work with it.
There's a lot of projects integrating these UI frameworks with web frameworks like Django or Rails.
With a simple web search you'll find a lot of themes (free and paid ones), pick what best fits your needs.

Is there an editor that is:
Available for at least windows and linux
Highlights multiple syntaxes in the same document. (Ala Dreamweaver)
Tabbed interface
All the editors I tried highlighted by file extension only which isn't fine grained enough.
At the very least it needs to distinguish scripting from html, css and javascript in the same document.

The answer is emacs. You can do pretty much anything you want with that editor. There is a 'nxhtml-mode' which you can use to edit javascript, php, html,ruby, jsp,css, whatever on the same file. If you're still at university, the best advice I can give you is to start learning how to use emacs. It will change your life, really.

I've only tried it with HTML av Javascript for two languages in the same file though.
I have used jedit. Just need a java runtime.
Handling syntax highliting and completion for multi-language files is something the NetBeans people have been working on and has been available for javascript since 6.1. I got the impression from JavaPosse#214 that this has seen further work in 6.5.
I don't Netbeans myself (my primary tools are Emacs and Eclipse), but It might be worth a look for you.
