Laravel eager load relationship with added clauses? - mysql

I have two related tables: Users & Images
class User extends Model
{
public function images()
{
return $this->hasMany('App\Images');
}
}
class Image extends Model{
public function user()
{
return $this->belongsTo('App\User');
}
}
I'm attempting to add a second method on the User model named thumbnails that would allow me to eager load a specific set of a users Images without having to load all of the users images first. Here is the logic:
public function thumbnails () {
return $this->hasMany('App\Images')
->selectRaw('src, user_id')
->where('processed', true)
->limit(3);
}
Here is how I've been calling this relation:
$posts = Post::with(['user','user.thumbnails'])->get();
using debugbar, I was examine the query:
"sql": "select src, user_id from \"images\" where \"processed\" = 1 and \"images\".\"user_id\" in (12, 14, 15) limit 3",
This only returns the user.thumbnails first Post model. Is there an issue with my thumbnails method ?

Your limit call isn't limiting 1 user's images to 3, it is limiting the entire query for all the posts' users' images to 3. It will only find 3 total images for all the users.
You can remove that limit for now:
public function thumbnails()
{
return $this->images()->where('processed', true);
}

You can call scope in inner query.
class User extends Model{
public function scopeThumbnails($query)
{
return $query->where('processed', true)
->limit(3);
}
}
in your controller
$posts = Post::with(['user' => function($query) {
$query->thumbnails();
}])->get();

laravel morphToMany of parent model how to use in subquery?

Current laravel models relations: ParentModel can have many documents, ChildModel can have many documents, same Documents can be belonged to any of ParentModel and ChildModel.
Also ChildModel always belongs to one ParentModel. ParentModel can have multiple ChildModels.
App\ParentModel relationships
...
public function childmodels()
{
return $this->hasMany('App\ChildModel');
}
public function documents()
{
return $this->morphToMany('App\Document', 'documentable');
}
...
App\ChildModel relationships
...
public function parentmodel()
{
return $this->belongsTo('App\ParentModel');
}
public function documents()
{
return $this->morphToMany('App\Document', 'documentable');
}
...
App\Document
...
public function parentmodels()
{
return $this->morphedByMany('App\ParentModel','documentable');
}
public function childmodels()
{
return $this->morphedByMany('App\ChildModel','documentable');
}
...
Now I'm trying to get all records of ChildModels (1) which have documents with specific type and (2) its ParentModel can also have documents.
The (1) first goal can be reached with such ChildModel method.
/* checking GET param to join this condition to final query */
if($request->has('report') && $request->input('report') == 'on') {
/* get all documents related to CurrentModel */
$query->whereHas('documents',function (Builder $query) {
$query->where('type', 1);
});
}
But this obviously doesnt include records of ChildModels, ParentModel of which has documents with specific type.
So the question is: how to include such condition into ChildModel query builder?
Found the easy way to access relations in builder
$query->whereHas('parentmodels.documents', function(Builder $query){
$query->where('type',1);
});

many-to-many relationship: order by on pivot table not working

I have these relationship between school and associate models:
// School model
public function associates()
{
return $this->belongsToMany('Associate', 'school_associate', 'school_id', 'associate_id')
->withPivot('start_date', 'end_date');
}
// Associate model
public function schools()
{
return $this->belongsToMany('School', 'school_associate', 'associate_id', 'school_id')
->withPivot('start_date', 'end_date');
}
I need to get all associates of one school ordered by start_date.
This is what I tried without success (in this try I am searching in all schools):
dd(\App\Associate::with(['schools' => function ($q) {
$q->orderBy('pivot_start_date', 'desc');
}])->toSql());
And I get this sql (notice no order by clause):
select * from `associate`
I tried to edit the relationship like this:
// Associate model
public function schools()
{
return $this->belongsToMany('School', 'school_associate', 'associate_id', 'school_id')
->withPivot('start_date', 'end_date')
->orderBy('pivot_start_date', 'desc'); // also tried without "pivot_"
}
And according to this post, I also tried :
// Associate model
public function schools()
{
return $this->belongsToMany('School', 'school_associate', 'associate_id', 'school_id')
->withPivot('start_date', 'end_date')
->orderBy('school_associate.start_date', 'desc');
}
But I always get the same query and the results are not ordered.
I solved using query builder in this way.
This function is in Associate model:
public function scopeLast($query, $school_ids = [])
{
$query->join('school_associate', "{$this->table}.{$this->primaryKey}", '=', 'school_associate.associate_id')
->join('school', 'school.school_id', '=', 'school_associate.school_id')
->whereIn('school.school_id', $school_ids)
->orderBy('school_associate.start_date', 'desc');
return $query;
}

Select records that haven't specific value as a child

I want to get users filtered by category, so I send category_id as a parameter and should select users who haven't records in users_categories_restrictions table with this category_id.
How can I make this eloquent query ??
You could use whereDoesntHave
$users = App\User::whereDoesntHave('categories', function ($query) use($cat_id) {
$query->where('categories.id', '=', $cat_id);
})->get();
I assume you have defined many to many relation between user and category model
class User extends Model
{
public function categories()
{
return $this->belongsToMany(Category::class, 'users_categories_restrictions', 'user_id');
}
}
class Category extends Model
{
public function users()
{
return $this->belongsToMany(User::class, 'users_categories_restrictions', 'category_id');
}
}

Laravel Autocomplete using foreign key to show data from another table

i have created an auto complete search box in controller of 'booking' table successfully , but i want the auto complete search box to show data from another table 'patient' that have a one to many relationship with "booking" table according to a specific condition using 'where' condition ,
This is the Booking Controller that i add autocomplete in it:
namespace App\Http\Controllers;
use Illuminate\Http\Request;
use App\Booking;
use App\Patient;
use App\User;
use Session;
use DB;
use Auth;
use Input;
class BookingController extends Controller
{
public function __construct()
{
$this->middleware('auth');
}
/**
* Display a listing of the resource.
*
* #return \Illuminate\Http\Response
*/
public function index()
{
$search = \Request::get('search');
$bookings = Booking::whereHas('patient', function ($query) use ($search) {
$query->where('patient_name', 'like', '%' . $search . '%');
})->where('status','=', null)->whereHas('patient', function ($query){
$query->where('company_id','=' ,Auth::user()->company_id);
})->paginate(10);
return view('booking.index')->withBookings($bookings);
/**
* Show the form for creating a new resource.
*
* #return \Illuminate\Http\Response
*/
public function autoComplete(Request $request) {
$query = $request->get('term','');
$bookings=Booking::whereHas('patient', function ($query){
$query->where('company_id','=' ,Auth::user()->company_id);
})->$data=array();
foreach ($bookings as $booking) {
$data[]=array('value'=>$booking->patient->patient_name,'id'=>$booking->id);
}
if(count($data))
return $data;
else
return ['value'=>'No Result Found','id'=>''];
}
and this is the Booking Model :
class Booking extends Eloquent
{
public function patient()
{
return $this->belongsTo('App\Patient');
}
public function user()
{
return $this->belongsTo('App\User');
}
}
and this is the patient Model:
class Patient extends Eloquent
{
public function booking()
{
return $this->hasMany('App\Booking');
}
public function user()
{
return $this->belongsTo('App\User');
}
}
and i used this code in view :
{!! Form::text('search_text', null, array('placeholder' => 'Search Text','class' => 'form-control','id'=>'search_text')) !!}
i want to show data from "patient" table and there is a one to many relationship between "booking" and "patient" table and i have successfully made a search box to search in patient table as you can see in index function , but i dont know to show data from "patient" table using where condition to show patient_name that his company_id equal Authenticated user company_id
Sorry for my Bad Language .

Method chainning for join table with pagination on CI 3

I create a core class named MY_Model that extends CI_Model. In this class, I create a method chaining to get all record with pagination like this :
// Take record with paging.
public function get_all_paged()
{
// get argument that passed
$args = func_get_args();
// get_all_paged($offset)
if (count($args) < 2) {
$this->get_real_offset($args[0]);
$this->db->limit($this->_per_page, $this->_offset);
}
// get_all_paged(array('status' => '1'), $offset)
else {
$this->get_real_offset($args[1]);
$this->db->where($args[0])->limit($this->_per_page, $this->_offset);
}
// return all record
return $this->db->get($this->_tabel)->result();
}
So , I just used like this on my controller,
for example
public function index($offset = NULL) {
$karyawan = $this->karyawan->get_all_paged($offset); //get all
}
I am realy confuse to get all record using join, I know join in CI like this :
public function get_all_karyawan() {
$this->db->select('tb_1 , tb_2');
$this->db->from('tb_1');
$this->db->join('tb_2', "where");
$query = $this->db->get();
return $query->result();
}
How to make it into chain in MY_Model?
Any help it so appreciated ...
The good thing in query builder, you can chain your db methods, till get(). So you can define, selects, where queries, limits in different ways.
For example:
public function category($category)
{
$this->db->where('category_id', $category);
return $this;
}
public function get_posts()
{
return $this->db->get('posts')->result();
}
And you can get all posts:
$this->model->get_posts();
Or by category:
$this->model->category(2)->get_posts();
So upon this, in your model:
public function get_all_karyawan() {
$this->db->select('tb_1 , tb_2');
$this->db->join('tb_1', "where");
// Here you make able to chain the method with this
return $this;
}
In your controller:
public function index($offset = NULL) {
$karyawan = $this->karyawan->get_all_karyawan()->get_all_paged($offset);
}
