Combining DMax with Dlookup to find value from last row created - ms-access

I have an access database that tracks reports numbered in this way:
NNN-[two digit site code]-YY0000
The “0000” is a sequential number assigned as the reports are issued.
Examples are: NNN-SD-180001, NNN-MA-180002.
tbl_NNN stores the records.
NNN_ID is the column that stores the report numbers.
The report numbers are manually assigned, so we must keep track of the last assigned number to prevent “duplicating” the sequential 0000 number. Since users do not have visibility to the entire table of assigned numbers, they do not know which is the last number assigned. To assist them, their dashboard/form has a label that displays the last number issued. The problem we have is that the label only shows numbers that include the SD site code, MA numbers are not displayed.
My solution was to add a column named “Date_Created”, which adds a =Now() time stamp whenever a new row/number is created in the table. With the timestamp, I then intended to use Dmax to display the report number that corresponds to the last row created, regardless of the report number.
I know what I need is a combination of DLookup and Dmax, but what I came up with displays
"#Error"
in the label.
=DLookUp("NNN_ID","tbl_NNN","[Date_Created]=" & DMax("[Date_Created]","tbl_NNN"))
Am I writing this correctly?

You are close, but you must use single quotes (or unreadable expanded double quotes) for the embedded DMax:
=DLookUp("NNN_ID","tbl_NNN","[Date_Created] = DMax('[Date_Created]','tbl_NNN')")

Access 2013 Count

I am working on a report in Access 2013 I need to seperate the first 20 records in a column that contain a value and assign a name to them. Such as at 1-20 I need it to insert Lot 1 at 21-40 need to assign Lot 2 etc... The report needs to be separated by lots of 20. I can also just insert a line when it reaches sets of 20 without a name if that makes it easier. Just need something to show a break at sets of 20.
Example: As you can see the report is separated by welder stencil. When the count in the VT column reaches 20 I need to enter a line or some type of divider to separate data. What our client is asking for is we separate the VT in sets of 20. I don't know whats the easiest way to accomplish this. I have researched it but haven't found anything.
Example Report with Divisions
Update the report's RecordSource query by adding "Lot" values for each row. There are multiple ways of doing this, but the easiest will be if your records already have a sequential, continuous numerical key. If they do not have such a key, you can research generating such sequential numbers for your query, but it is beyond the scope of this question and no details about the actual data schema were supplied in the question.
Let's imagine that you have such a key column [Seq]. You use the modulo (mod) and/or integer division operators (\ - backslash) to determine values that are exactly divisible by 20, e.g. ([Seq] - 1) mod 20 == 0.
Generate a lot value for each row. An example SQL snippet: SELECT ("Lot " & (([Seq] - 1) \ 20)) As LotNumber ...
Utilize Access report sorting and grouping features --grouping on the new Lot field-- to print a line and/or label at the start of each group. You can also have the report start a new page at the beginning or end of such a group.
The details about grouping can be found elsewhere in tutorials and Access documentation and are beyond the scope of this question.

Access 2013 Sum field column by ID number

My simple form
Here is my simple purchase order form.
The form based on 2 tables. One named POMaster (data being POID and PODate) and the other one named Items(data being What you see plus a type called POIDno which is linked to the POID field to store items by POID)
How do I get Text10 to equal the sum of ItemTotal Column (By POID ofcourse) and if possible How do I get this value to store in a (hopefully) new data field in POMaster I would name POTotal?
Put a hidden total text box on the sub form and set your text box to the value of the hidden control.
You shouldn't store the value in the header as it can always be calculated.
However if you are storing it, you would have to determine a specific point in your process and ideally make sure no more updates can be made to the order lines, as that would mean having to re-calculate your stored value.

SSRS chart series labels: Field!axisfield.Value not current value

I am trying to dynamically format the labels on my SSRS charts based on the underlying value. I'm trying to do this in two scenarios, one to format dates as ordinals and another to choose the appropriate number of decimal places based on actual values present. However, when I use the expression editor with an expression something like this...
=IIF(MAX(ABS(Fields![axisfield].Value))<2, "0.0%","0%")
...the Fields![axisfield].Value is always returning the first value from the dataset, meaning, in this example, if the first value is less than two, the labels will be formatted with one decimal place, even if it is the only one less than two. (So the 'MAX' function is essentially irrelevant.)
That example is attempting to set the overall formatting based on the largest data point in the series, in this next one I'm trying to format each label separately to get Ordinal dates (i.e. 1st, 2nd, etc, and yes, this formula is incomplete: it doesn't need to be to illustrate the problem):
="dd"+IIF(DatePart("d", Fields!date.Value)=1,"\s\t"
,IIF(DatePart("d", Fields!date.Value)=2,"\n\d"
,IIF(DatePart("d", Fields!date.Value)=3,"\r\d"
,"\t\h")))
This will give 1st, 2st, 3st and so on, as the first row in the dataset is for the first.
So, my question is, how do I get round this and, in the first example get the true maximum, and in the second reference the actual value being formatted?
Thanks!
I've had the same issues with using custom functions for setting label visibility. (see my entry for this: How to Display Only 1 Value Label in SSRS 2012 Calculated/Derived Series? )
I believe the issue is that data and fields are bound to the underlying data series but are not bound and accessible within the label itself.
You should be able to set the formatting in the function for the series data itself (as in the 2nd example) and then just set data labels, which will use the underlying series field value. An example with your data might be something like the following, which returns the values with the format:
="dd"+IIF(DatePart("d", Fields!date.Value)=1,Format(Fields!date.Value, "\s\t")
,IIF(DatePart("d", Fields!date.Value)=2,Format(Fields!date.Value,"\n\d")
,IIF(DatePart("d", Fields!date.Value)=3,Format(Fields!date.Value, "\r\d")
,Format(Fields!date.Value,"\t\h"))))
In the first example, you can get the max value to referring to the Dataset, as opposed to the field. Your code would then be:
=IIF(ABS(MAX(Fields![axisfield].Value, "YourDatasetName"))<2, "0.0%","0%")
(I changed the order of operations for Abs and Max because you have to use an aggregate function when referring to the whole dataset. Only then can you refer to the specific value.)

SSRS Reporting multi value parameters

I have a ssrs report, that gives me multiple product's price. My Parameter is not drill down, I have to type in the parameters(since I have large range of product number).
Now my questions is, how can i get the last entered product ( parameter) always appear at the bottom of the report ?. This would help me where to look the latest product in the report. For example I have product numbers like:
abc-234,
abc-570,
ght-908,
Now what I want is that the latest entered product number which is ght-908 to appear at the bottom of the ssrs reports. Right now it gives me the report for the multiple product, but its all over the place and i have to squint my eyes and try to find out where my most recent entered product numbers (parameters) is. I have also tried to stop the parameters to being refreshed everytime i add a product number.
Assuming your parameter name is MyParameter, in report designer (BIDS) just drop a textbox onto report below the data (e.g. Table) and put following expression into its value's formula:
=Parameters!MyParameter.Value.Split(",")(Parameters!MyParameter.Value.Split(",").Length - 1)
it will split the parameter list and grab the last value
Update: here is the screenshot with steps:
And here is the runtime result
This expression works for me:
=Trim(Right(Parameters!Product_Number.Value
, InStr(StrReverse(Parameters!Product_Number.Value), ",") - 1))
Trim might not be strictly necessary but is useful as it will work if the values are split with spaces as well as commas, or not.
For example:
It sounds like you want to order the results of the stored procedure by the order of the product codes as they are typed into the report parameter (which is a comma separated list).
You can return the index (order) of each product code in the parameter by using the Array.IndexOf and Split functions, e.g.
If you have a report parameter called "ProductNumber" and you also have a field called "ProductNumber" returned in your dataset, the following code will return the zero-based index of the Product Number as entered into the parameter list:
=Array.IndexOf(
Split(Parameters!ProductNumber.Value.ToString(), ",")
, Fields!ProductNumber.Value
)
So if abc-234 is the first product number in the parameter list then this code will return 0. If abc-570 is the second product number in the parameter list then this code will return 1, etc.
Assuming the products are listed in a tablix, then I would set the tablix sort expression to the above, which should sort the products into the order specified in the report parameter.

SSRS. Hide a Column based on Row Group Value

My application uses SSRS to produce payslips for employees. The Payslip report consists of a tablix with 5 columns. Among the 5, is a column called "Units" and another called "Invoice value".
The report has several Row Grouping levels, but the only important one for this question is the Payslip Number Row Grouping "RG_SlipNum". There is a page break after each "RG_SlipNum" RowGroup.
When users want to print Payslips, they can optionally supply up to 5 parameters which filter the result set to print out.
Employees can be paid based on the number of units delivered * a rate (Unit Based), or by a percentage of the invoice value (Invoice based) for the delivery (Oversimplified, but hopefully, you get my drift).
If the employee is Unit based I want the Units Column to Show, and the "Invoice Value" Column to be hidden. If they are Invoice based I want both columns to show.
My dataset has a bit field indicating whether to show or hide a column based on the logic above. It will be a 1 or a 0 for every underlying row within the current rowGroup. I have tried to use the First(,) function in a Column Visibility expression on the "Invoice Value" Column. However, I get the following error whenever I try to limit the scope of the First Function to the current Payslip Rowgroup using the RowGroup name.
"The Hidden expression for the tablix 'X' has a scope parameter that is not valid for an aggregate function. The scope parameter must be set to a string constant that is equal to either the name of a containing group, the name of a containing data region, or the name of a dataset. "
So, my Question(s)
Can you define a RowGroup name as the Scope argument in a First() function?
If not, What's the best way of achieving this without completely re-working my Dataset / RDL to accomplish this. (Using SSRS2008)
Why is it always just after posting a forum question, you figure it (or some workaround) out?
I'd still like some (better) answers if anyone sees this, but I've set a cell in the tablix to the value of the bit field that determines whether to show the column or not. I then changed my Column Visibility expression to check the cell value (using ReportItems!textboxname.Value) and it's working. as I scroll the payslips the columns visibility changes appropriately.
