I've noticed several junit tests hanging, where I would have expected them to fail via the junit timeout mechanism.
For example:

#Test(timeout = TIMEOUT)

When the maven build occurs (surefire 2.19), I see tests occasionally hang (forever, until I abort the build...) that I would have thought junit would enforce the timeout for and fail the test, and move on.
I was able to get a threaddump of where it seems stuck. Any ideas?

Earlier in my Ubuntu 18.04, there were 2 version of Java installed. One with Java 8 and other the java 11.
I removed all the version of Java by following this https://askubuntu.com/questions/84483/how-to-completely-uninstall-java
And again I installed the java 8 on my system and after that I executed ./gradlew check then the build was successful.

This doesn't happen all the time but happens a lot. I have tried different setting for remove-abandoned-timeout but still, the same thing keeps happening.
Can anyone provide any insights into connection pooling?
I figured it out, One of the query was taking a ling time. I had to increase the remove-abandoned-timeout. IT was taking more than 60 seconds, and in the middle of it, it was removing the connection.
So I'm running a springboot application and when I run on OSX I get a null pointer. When I run the same application on a ubuntu vm it works just fine, as well as someone else OSX computer. I can't figure out what would cause this. I have tried forcing maven to re-download the hibernate library but it made no change. The model extends JPARepository, and has appropriate mappings. I'm able to create the tables, as well as read from the db, just not write to it. Not sure what code might be relevant.

You are getting the NullPointerException in statement.getWarnings(), which suggests statement reaches with null value. You should verify your database versions in both systems and check your schemes match in.
Anyway, Hibernate should handle a possible null value here, from my point of view.
I’m using JUnit 4.11 and Mockito 1.9.5. How can I match all of the arguments in a method call except one, in which I don’t care if it’s generically matched? Here is what I have

Instead, this indicates that you're using the wrong Matchers class. You've imported org.hamcrest.Matchers, where calls to Matchers.any(Class<T> clazz) returns an instance of org.hamcrest.core.IsInstanceOf. Instead, you want to call org.mockito.Matchers.any(Class<T> clazz), which appears to return a T (to avoid your cast) but actually works via side effects.

How can i avoid this behavior?
From the stack trace, you can see this exception isn't being thrown in the testName() method: it's being thrown by tests.BranchTests.cleanUp, which is presumably a separate method run before or after your real test.
JUnit's expected won't cover exceptions thrown during these phases. Either ensure these failures don't happen here, or catch and ignore them.
