Changing Font in Wordpress Theme - html

I'm currently using the Wordpress 'Square' Theme : https://hashthemes.com/wordpress-theme/square/
I looking to modify the font in the navigation menu, drop down menus, and in posts/pages.
I have true type files of my desired fonts, but I'm not sure how I should modify the CSS to achieve what I want.
any help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Mo

You can try to add font family in style.css or custom css file i used this true type script in my theme like this
<script src="https://use.typekit.net/uhs1xwe.js"></script>
<script>try{Typekit.load({ async: true });}catch(e){}</script>
And in css file i used font like this way
.header_menu ul li {
float: left;
text-transform: uppercase;
font-size: 14px;
letter-spacing: 1px;
font-weight: 500;
padding: 0 18px 0 0;
font-family: "sofia-pro";
}

In style.css, write this:
#font-face {
font-family: FontName;
src: url(public_html/your-site/wp-content/themes/your-theme/fonts/FontName-Regular.ttf);
font-weight: normal;
}
Then use
body{font-family: FontName !important;}

How to detect differences between design and site?

I have this site:link
I put an image to understand better
The difference bothers me more background and text size.
Font used in photoshop is "ArchivoNarrow regular", this I put myself in the CSS code below
CODE CSS:
.details-footer{
display: inline-block;
width: auto;
font-size: 9pt;
color: white;
font-family: ArchivoNarrow regular;
}
Can you tell me please from where all these differences and how can I fix?
Thanks in advance!
To add font, insert this in your index.php or whatever file, that containt links to your css files.
<link href='https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Archivo+Narrow:400,700' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>
You need to insert this above all other css links.
Then add following line to your css, where you need it:
font-family: 'Archivo Narrow', sans-serif;
For example, to apply this to the footer:
.details-footer {
font-family: 'Archivo Narrow', sans-serif;
}
Done!
P.S.: It's not a good idea to upload the font to your server, you should use Google Fonts when you can.
Have you defined the font? If not you do so like this:
#font-face {
font-family: myFirstFont;
src: url(sansation_light.woff);
}
div {
font-family: myFirstFont;
}
then you need to upload the .woff font file to your folder.

CSS font is not working regardless any change that i made

Hi I know that there are some topic regarding this matter but rest assured i have been looking for solution in those topics but i could not find any solution.
I have tried my best but it still won't get fixed.
So this is my CSS font:
#font-face {
font-family: 'quicksandregular';
src: url('font/quiksand2/quicksand-regular-webfont.eot');
src: url('font/quiksand2/quicksand-regular-webfont.eot?#iefix') format('embedded-opentype'),
url('font/quiksand2/quicksand-regular-webfont.woff2') format('woff2'),
url('font/quiksand2/quicksand-regular-webfont.woff') format('woff'),
url('font/quiksand2/quicksand-regular-webfont.ttf') format('truetype'),
url('font/quiksand2/quicksand-regular-webfont.svg#quicksandregular') format('svg');
font-weight: normal;
font-style: normal;
}
and here is the body css
body {
font-size: 12px;
padding: 0;
height: 100%;
width: 100%;
margin: 0;
background-color: #f7f2e2;
font-family: Quicksand;
letter-spacing: -1px;
overflow: auto;
position: absolute;
}
somehow the font is still not show up in my site. It did show up when i have Quicksand font installed in my PC but as soon as i removed the quicksand font, the font switched into a default serif font. This is not what i really wanted since i want other PC to be able to show the font that i used, which is quicksand.
I did check up the font folder is exactly the same in my root folder. By my understanding, the quicksand font should be showing.
The question is, what is my mistake? I would be happy if someone responded to me and reply within 1 day maximum.
You will have to put '' and your font inside that. As this is how it is being generated in the css.
Example:
font-family: 'quicksandregular';
Hope this works.
Everthing is fine but you need to change is the css that is applied
and here is the body css
body {
font-size: 12px;
padding: 0;
height: 100%;
width: 100%;
margin:0;
background-color: #f7f2e2;
font-family: quicksandregular;
letter-spacing: -1px;
overflow:auto;
position:absolute;
}
Just make the following change to your code it will work.
font-family: quicksandregular;
Inside your #font-face, you have declared the font-family property to quicksandregular. Hence, you have to use font-family: 'quicksandregular' or font-family: quicksandregular in your CSS code.
Also, a good thing to do would be to rename the #font-face to QuickSand, and have multiple QuickSand font-faces with different font-weight properties, because this will allow you to use it in structures like this:
.myRegularText {
font-family: 'QuickSand';
font-weight: regular;
}
.myBoldText {
font-family: 'QuickSand';
font-weight: bold;
}
I can't know weather you have a problem with file path or not, since I cannot see the structure of your server's directory, but we assume the following structure:
<root> /
style/
main.css
font/
quicksand2/
<font-files>
In this case, you will have to use
#font-face {
font-family: 'QuickSand';
src: url('/font/quicksand2/<file-name>');
// ..
}
or
#font-face {
// ...
src: url('../font/<file-name>');
// ...
}
Hope that helps.

How do I change my list item style with a foundation icon?

I've downloaded a set of foundation icons but I'm having a hard time finding documentation on how to use this icons in my css code.
I know I can use it in my markup as so:
<i class="fi-check"></i>
but I want to include it in my css file
#import url("foundation-icons/foundation-icons.css");
and start using them here. for example I want to change all the list item styles to be checkmarks. Basically what I want is:
.myClass li { list-style: fi-check; }
Is it possible to do this somehow?
It would be easiest to use them in your markup as you've pointed out.
<i class="fi-check"></i>
However if you want to recreate this for your own custom style you'd have to recreate/change the css rules found in foundation-icons.css
First you'd need to pull in the #font-face:
#font-face {
font-family: "foundation-icons";
src: url("foundation-icons.eot");
src: url("foundation-icons.eot?#iefix") format("embedded-opentype"),
url("foundation-icons.woff") format("woff"),
url("foundation-icons.ttf") format("truetype"),
url("foundation-icons.svg#fontcustom") format("svg");
font-weight: normal;
font-style: normal;
}
Then you'll need to add it to your custom css like so:
.myClass li:before {
font-family: "foundation-icons";
font-style: normal;
font-weight: normal;
font-variant: normal;
text-transform: none;
line-height: 1;
-webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased;
display: inline-block;
text-decoration: inherit;
content: "\f126";
}
The last line references the check icon in the foundation-icons file. So, if you wanted to change the icon to something else you'd need to look through foundation-icons.css to see what code to put into the content section.
For example:
trash = content: "\f204";
stop = content: "\f1ef";
Hope this makes sense!

Fonts are not rendered properly

I have a little experience with css, and learning it day by day, but I need to figure this out.
I have a little problem with defining the styles for the page.
My page contains the following sections:
<head>
<link href='http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+Sans:Light' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>
</head>
.
.
.
.
<article>
<header>
<h1 class="txtName">Your pathway to success starts here</h1>
</header>
<p class="txtDesc">
SomeText.................SomeText
</p>
</article>
and I have the .css file containing the following section:
article h1
{
color: #0140be;
font-family: 'Open Sans';
font-style: Light;
font-size: 20px;
font-weight: normal;
}
article p.txtDesc
{
line-height:1.6;
font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif;
font-size: 14px;
margin-left: 18px;
font-weight: 400;
}
The text inside the header is displayed with correct styles, however, text inside the paragraph is not displayed correctly. Looks like it is not recognizing given styles.
It displays the right font-family, but does not recognize font-weight.
What am I doing wrong here? Need some help.
Thank you
Link : https://www.google.com/fonts#UsePlace:use/Collection:Open+Sans
As you can see there is styles for fonts like "Light 300 Italic" or "Extra-Bold 800". You must select that styles for bolder or lighter fonts. Then you can use font-weight in css otherwise it doesnt works.
Dont Forget: When you select "light 300" you can use font-weight:300. So font-weight:200 is not make any differences. If you select too much font styles it will take more time to load fonts from google when opening your page. You can see performance indicator on right.
Your link tag should look like
<link href='http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+Sans:400,300' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>
You need to include each of the font weights that you want in the URL.
Your styles should be:
article h1
{
color: #0140be;
font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif;
font-size: 20px;
font-weight: 300;
}
article p.txtDesc
{
line-height:1.6;
font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif;
font-size: 14px;
margin-left: 18px;
font-weight: 400;
}
You select which font style you want with the font-weight attribute.

Slow rendering using "Sans-Serif"

I have a odd issue on my "in-development" website here: http://www.cphrecmedia.dk/musikdk/stage/
The H1-h6 fonts are just "sans-serif", but often in Chrome it shows another font (screenshot: http://cl.ly/image/260B0H0l1w0C). When the mouse hover the navigation it changes to the right font. FYI this is how it should look like: http://cl.ly/image/442l071M3N1B
The code used for font is:
.nm li a {
float: left;
font-family: sans-serif;
height:22px;
padding: 12px 14px 7px 14px;
color:#white;
font-size: 12px;
line-height: 20px;
}
I mainly develop using Chrome, so I'm not sure if the issue is present in other browsers. Have anyone of you seen this issue before?
'sans-serif' is not a font name it's a font family specification.
Use a sans-serif font name like "Arial" or "Verdana" or else you will have unexpected results (the browser may replace your font with generic ones).
Try using custom font method by downloading the font and keeping it in your fonts folder.
Example:
#font-face {
font-family: myFirstFont;
src: url('Sansation_Light.ttf')
,url('Sansation_Light.eot'); /* IE9 */
}
div
{ font-family:myFirstFont; }
Try using custom web font from google:
http://www.google.com/fonts
Select a font and uses one of the three metods, i prefer CSS method.
Example:
#import url(http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Roboto);
Import this in CSS and use this for you text: font-family: 'Roboto', sans-serif;
