Searching Database with partial keyword - mysql

I'm trying to do a search of all the columns of a specific table and I want to return the result that contains certain characters. For example
Entered Search Value: "Josh"
Output Values: Josh, Joshua, Joshie, Rich Joshua
I want to return all values containing the characters Josh. I'm trying to use FreeTextTable however it only returns exact words like this
Entered Search Value: "Josh"
Output Values: Josh
I'm using the following code.

I know this will be possible by using LIKE or CONTAINS but I have a lot of rows in that table and it would take time before it returns the result. So I need to use FreeTextTable to get the Rank and Key. However I can't achieve my goal here. I need help. Thanks!

Bigquery: Extract data from an array of json

(This is an extension to this question, but my reputation is too low to comment or ask more questions on that topic...)
We work on bigquery, hence limited in importing packages or using other languages. And, as per the link above, js is a solution, but not what I'm looking for here. I implemented it in js, and it was too slow for our needs.
Suppose one of our columns is a string that look like this (array of json):
[{"location":[22.99902,66.000],"t":1},{"location":[55.32168,140.556],"t":2},{"location":[85.0002,20.0055],"t":3}]
I want to extract from the column the json for which "t":2
Where:
some columns don't have elements "t":2
Some columns have several elements "t":2
The number of json elements in each string can change
element "t":2 is not always in second position.
I don't know regexp well enough for this. We tried regexp_extract with this pattern: r'(\{.*?\"t\":2.*?\})')), but that doesn't work. It extracts everything that precedes "t":2, including the json for "t":2. We only want the json of element "t":2.
Could you advise a regexp pattern that would work?
EDIT:
I have a preference for a solution that gives me 1 match. Suppose I have this string:
[{"location":[22.99902,66.000],"t":1},{"location":[55.32168,140.556],"t":2},{"location":[55.33,141.785],"t":2}],
I would prefer receiving only 1 answer, the first one.
In that case perhaps regexp is less appropriate, but I'm really not sure?

There is another solution but it is not regexp based (as I had originally asked). So this should not count as the final answer to my own question, nonetheless could be useful.
It is based on a split of the string in array and then chosing the element in the array that satisfies my needs.
Steps:
transform the string into something better for splits (using '|' as seperator):
replace(replace(replace(my_field,'},{','}|{'),'[{','{'),'}]','}')
split it using split(), which yields an array of strings (each one a json element)
find the relevant element ("t":2) - in my case, the first one is good enough, so I limit the query to 1: array( select data from unnest(split(replace(replace(replace(my_field,'},{','}|{'),'[{','{'),'}]','}'),'|')) as data where data like '%"t":2%' limit 1)
Convert that into a useable string with array_to_string() and use json_extract on that string to extract the relevant info from the element that I need (say for example, location coordinate x).
So putting it all together:

Notice that I have used the dummy described in the temp table, populated inside the WITH method. As below:
Afterwords, in the table refined_data, I used the REGEXP_EXTRACT to extract the desired string from the column. Observe that for the rows which there is not a match expression, the output is null. Thus, the table refined_data is as follows :
As you can see, now it is just needed a simple WHERE filter to obtain the desired output, which was done in the last select.

SQL show results for A column first then show results for B column

I want SQL to show / order the results for the column name first then show results for the description column last.
Current SQL query:
SELECT * FROM products WHERE (name LIKE '%$search_query%' OR description LIKE '%$search_query%')
I tried adding order by name, description [ASC|DESC] on the end but that didn't work.
It's for optimizing the search results. If a certain word is found in description it should go last if a certain word is also found in the name column.
You can use a CASE statement in an ORDER BY to prioritize name. In the example below all results where name is matched will come first because the CASE statement will evaluate to 1 whereas all other results will evaluate to 2.
I'm not sure by your problem description what exactly you want the behavior to be, but you can certainly use this technique to create more refined cases to prioritize your results.

If you want the names first, the simplest order by is:
order by (name like '%$search_query%') desc
MySQL treats booleans as numbers in a numeric context, with "1" for true and "0" for false.
While this is undocumented, when results sets combined by a UNION ALL and not sorted afterwards, they stay in the order returned, as UNION ALL just adds new results to the bottom of the result set. This should work for you:

MySQL Search strings

I'm looking for a way to get a row from a tabla which have a column data type of string. This column could have values as follows:
1. "1,2,3,4,5"
2. "X,3,4,5,8"
3. "X,X,3,4,5"
4. "1,2,3,4,X"
5. "1,3,4,X,X"
and so on, ...
I want to accomplish a search for a String like
"1,2,3,4,5"
I tried with a
SELECT *
FROM *table_name*
WHERE *column* LIKE '%1,2,3,4,5%';
hoping this query could retrieve at least three results (in the example, first, third and forth strings) but it returns only the first string, because of course it's the only string that matches with the specified criteria. Anyone knows a way for me to accomplish this achievement?
I assume the X listed is literally the X character - if so, try
SELECT * FROM table WHERE '1,2,3,4,5' REGEXP REPLACE(column, 'X', '.')

MySQL query to get codes of countries

I am developing an application, in one part of it I get a string as the phone number and I have to return the phone provider of that number, in database I have table prefix with this structure:
id , name, code
Some data in it is like:
(23242, 'UK-Mobile-T Mobile', '447984'),
(23243, 'UK-Mobile-T Mobile', '447985'),
(23244, 'UK-Mobile-T Mobile', '447986'),
(23245, 'UK-Mobile-T Mobile', '447987'),

(23247, 'UK-Mobile-Vodafone', '447423'),
name is the provider and code is the prefix belongs to that provider
and what I get as input is a phone number just like 447243xxxxx
Question is this:
how should I create a query to return the UK-Mobile-Vodafone as a result when the above input is given ?
please remember length of this code is not same for every country
This may work for you:
select t.*

This assumes, among other things, that only one prefix matches each number. Otherwise you need to choose among them.
If you need to choose among them, typically you would want the longest matching one:
select t.*
from table t
where '447243xxxxx' like concat(t.code, '%')
order by length(t.code) desc
limit 1;
And then, if you want to be able to use an index, you don't want to use concat() on the code. Instead, extract the first n characters. This is easy if all have the same length (6) as in your example:
select t.*
from table t
where left('447243xxxxx', 6) = t.code;
Just use the LIKE-operator with GROUP BY:

SQL Server Full-Text Search for exact match with fallback

First off there seems to be no way to get an exact match using a full-text search. This seems to be a highly discussed issue when using the full-text search method and there are lots of different solutions to achieve the desired result, however most seem very inefficient. Being I'm forced to use full-text search due to the volume of my database I recently had to implement one of these solutions to get more accurate results.
I could not use the ranking results from the full-text search because of how it works. For instance if you searched for a movie called Toy Story and there was also a movie called The Story Behind Toy Story that would come up instead of the exact match because it found the word Story twice and Toy.
I do track my own rankings which I call "Popularity" each time a user access a record the number goes up. I use this datapoint to weight my results to help determine what the user might be looking for.
I also have the issue where sometimes need to fall back to a LIKE search and not return an exact match. I.e. searching Goonies should return The Goonies (most popular result)
So here is an example of my current stored procedure for achieving this:

This stored procedure is executed about 5,000 times a minute, and crazy enough it's not bringing my server to it's knees. But I really want to know if there was a more efficient approach to this? Thanks.
You should use full text search CONTAINSTABLE to find the top 100 (possibly 200) candidate results and then order the results you found using your own criteria.
It sounds like you'd like to ORDER BY
exact match of the phrase (=)
the fully matched phrase (LIKE)
higher value for the Popularity column
the Rank from the CONTAINSTABLE
But you can toy around with the exact order you prefer.
In SQL that looks something like:

This will give you the movies that contain the exact phrase "Toy Story", ordered by their popularity.

Note the above would also give you "The Goonies Return" if you searched "The Goonies".
If got the feeling you don't really like the fuzzy part of the full text search but you do like the performance part.
Maybe is this a path: if you insist on getting the EXACT match before a weighted match you could try to hash the value. For example 'Toy Story' -> bring to lowercase -> toy story -> Hash into 4de2gs5sa (with whatever hash you like) and perform a search on the hash.
In Oracle I've used UTL_MATCH for similar purposes. (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e25788/u_match.htm)
Even though using the Jaro Winkler algorithm, for instance, might take awhile if you compare the title column from table 1 and table 2, you can improve performance if you partially join the 2 tables. I have in some cases compared person names on table 1 with table 2 using Jaro Winkler, but limited results not just above a certain Jaro Winkler threshold, but also to names between the 2 tables where the first letter is the same. For instance I would compare Albert with Aden, Alfonzo, and Alberto, using Jaro Winkler, but not Albert and Frank (limiting the number of situations where the algorithm needs to be used).
Jaro Winkler may actually be suitable for movie titles as well. Although you are using SQL server (can't use the utl_match package) it looks like there is a free library called "SimMetrics" which has the Jaro Winkler algorithm among other string comparison metrics.
