this is my first question here. I am using Notepad++ and I love it. The only thing I find uncomfortable is that when multiple tabs are open, the width of the tab name is too big, and that is because Notepad in the tab name displays the full name of the file.
I wonder if it is possible that the with of the tab was automatically reduced (as it happens in Google Chrome, for example), so that the more tabs you have, the smaller the width of the tab, that is, the more abbreviated the name is.
Thank you!
I'm using Notepad++ for a long time and I can say that there is no way to do what you want.
But, you can open multiple notapadd++ windows with multiple tabs.
e.g. 10 tabs at the 1st window, and 10 tabs at the 2nd window.
To open new Notepad++ window just drag&drop some tab from main window outside it. Same way you can move tabs between two windows.
To my knowledge there is no way to have tabs resize like that. You can try settings>preferences>general>tab bar>reduce or even multi-line, but I don't believe they can dynamically resize.

Let me explain the situation.
I need to copy a lot of instances of a text inside a project of PhpStorm. So, I perform a 'Find in Path' action and a floating window appears with the matching results.
Now my problem is that after copying once from the floating window, if I click on another app window, then PhpStorm's main window/PhpStorm itself go to background, then if I want to copy text from the floating window again, I can not use any keyboard shortcut, I can not modify any line in the floating window because PhpStorm stays in background/inactive-mode even if I click on its floating window.
If I click anywhere in the PhpStorm except the main top-white bar of PhpStorm, then the floating window disappear, which causes me to perform the search again.
It is reducing my productivity a lot. Is there any way to make the PhpStorm active or bring it foreground when clicking its floated search window?
Please see the screenshot:

You are approaching the problem from the a bit wrong angle. There is a better solution than fighting the focus/foreground state.
There is a button in the bottom right corner of "Find in Path" window ("Open in Find" it says on your screenshot) -- click it and it will open search results in traditional / standard Search Results tool window (with grouping by folders/files, preview area etc)... so no floating and no auto closing on clicking somewhere.
P.S. Lots of people forgetting that results shown in this new "Find in Path" dialog/popup is still just a preview (TOP 100 matches only). Super functional (you can edit and stuff) but still preview only. This mainly applies to those who remember the way how this dialog (back then it was dialog window) looked before redesign (now it's more of a popup).
Because of the way how it is all presented now (results occupy majority of the popup space) people somehow automatically forgetting about "traditional" way of searching (clicking actual "Find" button to get search working) and focusing only on what they see on a screen right now.
This new "Find in Path" dialog/popup adds a lot of convenience for sure (you typed search text and results are straight away before your eyes). At the same time quite often you may see/hear "it does not show me all results" frustrated comments (as it shows top 100 .. and a single file may have 100+ hits in some cases) and alike. JetBrains needs to improve UX a bit in this area for sure.
I want to give my users the option of opening a tab into its own window rather than merely switching the current window’s display to that tab. I have lots of tabs in my app, and the user often wants to study a few of those over long periods of time. For example, the user may watch charts being updated over time via Push.
Currently I add an "Open Window" button to a tab's layout. This opens a new browser window with the current tab’s layout.
Is there any other way to do this? A context-menu on the tab itself? User holding down a keyboard modifier (Control key, Command key, Option/Alt key) while clicking the tab?
Actually, there is one trick:
tabSheet.setCloseHandler((tabsheet, tabContent) -> {/** make new window **/});
Of course it works if tabSheet is closeable.
So if anybody click close button then you could do your own logic - in this example open new window.
But it could be misleading. To handle this problem you could replace close caption from x to any other more meaningful sign.
For example, look at Valo TabSheet demo. If you look in HTML code, than you notice something like this:
<span class="v-tabsheet-caption-close" aria-hidden="true" aria-disabled="true">×</span>
I think you are able to change this x using for example JavaScript.
I am working on getting only a part of the navigated webpage.
for example, "the face book . com" homepage.
I only want the division of groups on the left to appear in my web Browser control.
is that possible?
I am having ideas on fetching but i don't know how to do it. any other way is fine.
also, please let me know where to put the code, because i am new on vb.net
web.Document.All("mConnect").InvokeMember("click")
this is for clicking something inside the html
web.Document.getElementId("<div>").InnerHtml("")
is this code correct? what is it for?
let's say we cut the google homepage 4 ways. and i only want Quadrant 2 to appear in my webBrowser control. is that possible? I think this is a clearer explanation..
I saw one post in this forum that technically solved my problem by manually forcing the webbrowser control to scroll to what place I want.
Web.Navigate("javascript:window.scroll(320,10,document.body.scrollHeight);")
320 is the width, 10 is the height. edit to where you want it to be.
adjust the size of your webBrowser then you can particularly choose the part that you want to see, disable scrollbars if you want.
Need help on this one! When I used to use the 'Find in Files' feature it would display the result in a tab so I could go back to reference it later.
For some reason, one day it switched so that the results open up in a drawer at the bottom of the sublime window.
This is not ideal because it takes up window real estate.
it's aggravating to have to go and toggle the results panel every time I need to reference the results. Would be much easier if it was in a tab.
I've tried looking in all my preferences and nothing seems different so I'm lost on this one.
Found it! Turns out it is the 'Use Buffer' Button on 'Find in Files' looks like I had mistakenly hit that on a search.
This may be the dumbest question ever but our customer really wants this. I am asking this silly question just to be sure that it cannot be done.
We have a popup window which has opened by window.showModalDialog (img 1)
In this window there is a custom autocomplete control which displays an html table. The problem is autocomplete table is wider than the modal dialog. So user is unable to see the contents of this table. (img 2)
Then we made initial size of the modal dialog wider enough to see table contents but customer did not want the initial empty area and did not want the content to be wider also. (img 3)
The customer wants to see the thing as in img 4 which i could only made by paint.
Is it possible to display overflowed html content outside the browser. At least for the ones which has opened by window.showModalDialog.
Note: This is about a 10 years old project and it is totally based on window.open and window.showModailDialog. So using a custom jquery dialog or something similar is not an option.
Within your client's constraints, your task is not possible.
What you could do instead is popup another modal window that shows the contents of the dropdown. That way, you can get a differently sized viewport than what the first modal window offers. Also, if you open the new one as a child, you could even pass messages between the 2 windows.
Of course this will be a very rudimentary stone-age solution! You may also come across a lot of browser limitations/quirks.
