So i'm trying to have a div with text appear on a parent div when a mouse hovers the parent, all was going well and good until I encountered a problem where the text ("VISIT") was no longer centering when the font size is changed to be larger.
.project-box {
width: 1000px;
background-color: white;
height: 350px;
margin: auto;
box-shadow: 0px 2px 5px 0px #737373;
}
.project-image {
width: 400px;
height: 260px;
margin-left: 30px;
background-color: #f1f1f0;
position: relative;
top: 50%;
transform: translateY(-50%);
cursor: pointer;
}
.slidein-content {
display: none;
background-color: #ff9933;
z-index: 1;
width: 400px;
height: 50px;
position: absolute;
bottom: 0;
text-align: center;
}
.project-image:hover .slidein-content {
display: block;
}
.visit {
font-family: 'Montserrat', sans-serif, Arial;
color: white;
letter-spacing: 1px;
font-size: 2em;
<div class="project-box">
<div class="project-image">
<div class="slidein-content">
<p class="visit">VISIT</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
As you can see, the text "VISIT" is aligned properly horizontally, but not vertically. Anyone know a solution?
Try using a <span> element instead of a <p> element. So modify your code to this:
<div class="project-box">
<div class="project-image">
<div class="slidein-content">
<span class="visit">VISIT</span>
</div>
</div>
</div>
That should help center it or at least get you in the right direction. I tested this on jsfiddle here. You may need to play around with the margin or padding a bit, but the problem you're having is because of the <p> element.
Set a line-height=0 on .visit
.project-box {
width: 1000px;
background-color: white;
height: 350px;
margin: auto;
box-shadow: 0px 2px 5px 0px #737373;
}
.project-image {
width: 400px;
height: 260px;
margin-left: 30px;
background-color: #f1f1f0;
position: relative;
top: 50%;
transform: translateY(-50%);
cursor: pointer;
}
.slidein-content {
display: none;
background-color: #ff9933;
z-index: 1;
width: 400px;
height: 50px;
position: absolute;
bottom: 0;
text-align: center;
}
.project-image:hover .slidein-content {
display: block;
bottom:0;
}
.visit {
font-family: 'Montserrat', sans-serif, Arial;
color: white;
letter-spacing: 1px;
font-size: 2em;
line-height:0;
<div class="project-box">
<div class="project-image">
<div class="slidein-content">
<p class="visit">VISIT</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Add top:50%; and transform: translateY(-50%); to .slidein-content, erase the bottom:0 from it and add amargin: 0 to .visit (I don't know from where, but it has a 32px top- and bottom-margin, which you have to reset to 0 that way.)
.project-box {
width: 1000px;
background-color: white;
height: 350px;
margin: auto;
box-shadow: 0px 2px 5px 0px #737373;
}
.project-image {
width: 400px;
height: 260px;
margin-left: 30px;
background-color: #f1f1f0;
position: relative;
top: 50%;
transform: translateY(-50%);
cursor: pointer;
}
.slidein-content {
display: none;
background-color: #ff9933;
z-index: 1;
width: 400px;
height: 50px;
position: absolute;
top:50%;
transform: translateY(-50%);
text-align: center;
}
.project-image:hover .slidein-content {
display: block;
}
.visit {
font-family: 'Montserrat', sans-serif, Arial;
color: white;
letter-spacing: 1px;
font-size: 2em;
line-height: 2em;
margin: 0;
}
<div class="project-box">
<div class="project-image">
<div class="slidein-content">
<p class="visit">VISIT</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>

I am trying to create an overlay for the website, it should have the form of three boxes stacked on top of each other. Currently, they are situated so that the first two are on the first row, and the third one is on the bottom. To make them all be on a separate row, I am trying to add single parameter to css: width: 100%, which worked for the third row, but ruins everything if I do it to either of the ones left.
Here is the code snippet, It will work on its own:
* {
box-sizing: border-box;
}
#box {
width: 70vw;
height: 80vh;
margin: 10px;
padding: 10px;
border-radius: 25px;
}
.column4 {
height: 39vh;
width: 50%;
float: left;
padding: 50px;
text-align: center;
color: black;
font-size: 20px;
line-height: 1.3;
/*width: 100%;*/ /* here is the culprit*/
}
.column5 {
height: 39vh;
width: 100%;
float: left;
padding: 10px;
text-align: center;
color: black;
font-size: 20px;
line-height: 1.3;
}
#overlay {
position: fixed;
display: none;
width: 100%;
height: 100%;
top: 0;
left: 0;
right: 0;
bottom: 0;
background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.8);
z-index: 2;
cursor: pointer;
}
#text {
position: absolute;
top: 50%;
left: 50%;
font-size: 50px;
color: white;
transform: translate(-50%, -50%);
-ms-transform: translate(-50%, -50%);
}
#boxt3 {
font-size: 25px;
}
#boxt1 {
font-size: 20px;
}
#boxt2 {
font-size: 20px;
}
<div id="overlay" style="z-index: 100; display: block;" onclick="off()">
<div id="text">
<div id="box" style="background:#fff">
<div class="row">
<div id="boxt1" class="column4" style="padding-top: 0; overflow: auto">Facebook, Inc.<br>NASDAQ<br>US<br>Internet Content & Information<br>Communication Services<br>some nice info</div>

</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
I understand that there is probably some dumb mistake, but I can't find it at all (I have just started learning :) ). What is the issue here?
The issue occurs because you have set the height for the child element which is too high (39vh + 39vh + 39vh) for the parent element (80vh) . Try fitting the height of the child elements into parent's height. It will fix your problem.
* {
box-sizing: border-box;
}
#box {
width: 70vw;
height: 80vh;
/*margin: 10px;
padding: 10px;*/
border-radius: 25px;
}
.column4 {
height: 20vh;
width: 50%;
float: left;
padding: 50px 50px 10px;
text-align: center;
color: black;
font-size: 20px;
line-height: 1.3;
width: 100%;
}
*{box-sizing:border-box;}
.column5 {
height: 40vh;
width: 100%;
float: left;
padding: 10px;
text-align: center;
color: black;
font-size: 20px;
line-height: 1.3;
}
#overlay {
position: fixed;
display: none;
width: 100%;
height: 100%;
top: 0;
left: 0;
right: 0;
bottom: 0;
background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.8);
z-index: 2;
cursor: pointer;
}
#text {
position: absolute;
top: 50%;
left: 50%;
font-size: 50px;
color: white;
transform: translate(-50%, -50%);
-ms-transform: translate(-50%, -50%);
}
#boxt3 {
font-size: 25px;
}
#boxt1 {
font-size: 20px;
}
#boxt2 {
font-size: 20px;
}
<div id="overlay" style="z-index: 100; display: block;" onclick="off()">
<div id="text">
<div id="box" style="background:#fff">
<div class="row">
<div id="boxt1" class="column4" style="padding-top: 0; overflow: auto">Facebook, Inc.<br>NASDAQ<br>US<br>Internet Content & Information<br>Communication Services<br>some nice info</div>
<div id="boxt2" class="column4" style="padding-top: 0; overflow: auto">Price: 341.00 <br>mCap: 965.39B<br>Beta: 1.295305<br>volAvg: 14142012<br>P/E: NA</div>

</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Now I have set the child element's height to 20vh + 20vh + 40vh sums up to the height of the parent's height 80vh
You must remove width: 100% from column5 class
* {
box-sizing: border-box;
}

width: 70vw;
height: 80vh;
margin: 10px;
padding: 10px;

/*width: 100%;*/ /* here is the culprit*/
}
.column5 {
height: 39vh;
float: left;
padding: 10px;
text-align: center;

#boxt1 {

I have a quite simple website. It scans for pictures via php and then displays them one at a time with two buttons on top. The bottons are used to switch back and forth between them.
On the very top of the page there are a couple of links, but I can not click them. When I double klick them, the picture gets highlighted instead of the text my cursor is above. I have tried it without js and php and the issue is still there.
I am not very experienced in HTML. I think it might be something about the z-index, but I cannot fix it.

I hope you can help me out here. I could manage to work out all the js and php things involved, but languages that don't follow programming rules... Not my best part.
The reason you have the box over the links is the floats aren't being cleared. That means the box that contains the links collapses, which is probably why you need to add so much padding. If you add clear: both to the container you will be able to click the links.
If you want to keep everything else the same I suggest adding a wrapper around the menu and setting position: relative, then you can give that a z-index greater than the container.
The menu buttons which are both position: absolute then need higher z-index too.
.menu {
position: relative;
z-index: 2;
}
.menup1 {
float: left;
padding-left: 5.5%;
box-sizing: border-box;
font-size: 35px;
background: #fffff;
color: black;
}
a {
color: black;
cursor: pointer;
}
p {
color: black;
}
.listelemt {}
ul {
float: left;
font-size: 40px;
padding-top: 10px;
}
ul li {
padding-top: 15px;
}
.container {
position: relative;
z-index: 1;
width: 100%;
padding-top: 200px;
}
.container .btnF {
position: absolute;
z-index: 3;
top: 50%;
left: 50%;
transform: translate(600%, -50%);
-ms-transform: translate(-50%, -50%);
background-color: #555;
color: white;
font-size: 16px;

The problem isn't with z-index, but rather that your container is overlapping your menu items. To correct this, replace padding-top: 200px with margin-top: 200px, and give the container float: left. Alternatively, if you don't want to add any 'offset' with your container, you can clear the float before initialising it with clear: left on the container.
Also note that both your body and .menup1 have invalid background-colours; when specifying hex codes, you must either specify three, four or six letters/digits. Five is invalid.
Both of these have been fixed in the following:
body {
background-color: #ffffff;
}
.menup1 {
float: left;
padding-left: 5.5%;
box-sizing: border-box;
font-size: 35px;
background: #ffffff;
color: black;
}
a {
color: black;
cursor: pointer;
}
p {
color: black;
}
.listelemt {}
ul {
float: left;
font-size: 40px;
padding-top: 10px;
}
ul li {
padding-top: 15px;
}
.container {
position: relative;
float: left;
width: 100%;
margin-top: 200px;
}
.container .btnF {
position: absolute;
top: 50%;
left: 50%;
transform: translate(600%, -50%);
-ms-transform: translate(-50%, -50%);
background-color: #555;
color: white;
font-size: 16px;
padding: 6px 12px;
border: none;
cursor: pointer;
border-radius: 1px;
height: 50px;
width: 50px;
}
.container .btnB {

top: 50%;

transform: translate(-675%, -50%);
-ms-transform: translate(105%, -50%);
background-color: #555;
color: white;
font-size: 16px;
padding: 6px 12px;
border: none;
cursor: pointer;

May I please know how can I align the login button to the center of the page? I can't seem to do it althoughI've tried many suggestions from previous posts like this.
Need help on this.
body {
background: white;
margin: 0;
font-family: Arial;
}
.wrapper {
text-align: center;
}
.buttonlogin {
position: absolute;
top: 50%;
}
button {
background-color: FireBrick;
color: white;
padding: 16px 25px;
margin: auto;
border: none;
cursor: pointer;
width: 100%;
border-radius: 8px;
display: block;
margin: 0 auto;
}
button:hover {
opacity: 0.8;
}
<body>
<div class="wrapper">
<button class="buttonlogin" onclick="document.getElementById('id01').style.display='block'" style="width:10%;">Login</button>
</div>
</body>
You've given your button a position of absolute, so you're looking to also apply left: 50%. However, you probably actually also want to subtract the offset from your width, so that the element remains perfectly in the center. In this case, you're looking for left: 45%, as the element has a width of 10%. The same goes for top, which can be calculated with calc(50% - (48px / 2)):
body {
background: white;
margin: 0;
font-family: Arial;
}
.wrapper {
text-align: center;
}
.buttonlogin {
position: absolute;
top: calc(50% - (48px / 2));
left: 45%; /*calc(50% - (10% / 2)); */
}
button {
background-color: FireBrick;
color: white;
padding: 16px 25px;
margin: auto;
border: none;
cursor: pointer;
width: 100%;
border-radius: 8px;
display: block;
margin: 0 auto;
}
button:hover {
opacity: 0.8;
}
<body>
<div class="wrapper">
<button class="buttonlogin" onclick="document.getElementById('id01').style.display='block'" style="width:10%;">Login</button>
</div>
</body>
Hope this helps :)
Is this what you want?
.buttonlogin {
position: absolute;
top: 50%;
left: 50%;
transform: translate(-50%, -50%);
}
This put the button at the center of the html.
body {
background: white;
margin: 0;
font-family: Arial;
}
.buttonlogin {
position: absolute;
top: 50%;
left: 50%;
transform: translate(-50%, -50%);
text-align: center;
}
button {
background-color: FireBrick;
color: white;
padding: 16px 25px;
margin: auto;
border: none;
cursor: pointer;
width: 100%;
border-radius: 8px;
display: block;
margin: 0 auto;
}
button:hover {
opacity: 0.8;
}
<body>
<button class="buttonlogin" onclick="document.getElementById('id01').style.display='block'" style="width:10%;">Login</button>
</body>
Add this:
button {
left : 50%;
}
.wrapper{
display: flex;
justify-content: center;}
<div class="wrapper">
<button> Sample </button>
</div>
.wrapper{
display: flex;
justify-content: center;
}
<body>
<table style="width:100%;height:100%">
<tr><td style="text-align:center;vertical-align:middle">
<button>Click me</button>
</td></tr>
</table>
</body>
I am trying to set three divs side by side with each equal width and height.
I am unable to remove that extra space at right at right most div. If I set its margin-right to 0 the rightmost div becomes bigger than other two.
Here is the fiddle.

width: 33.33333333%;
}
.product .container {
margin-right: 10px;
padding: 10px;
background-color: #000;
}
.product .container img {
display: block;
margin: 0 auto;
width: 100%;
}
#closeRecord {
background: black none repeat scroll 0 0;
border: 2px solid white;
border-radius: 50%;
color: white;
cursor: pointer;
height: 25px;
right: -15px;
left: right;
position: absolute;
top: -10px;
width: 25px;
}
Html:
<div class="recordpopup">
<div class="retry">
<div id="closeRecord">x</div>
<div style="width: 100%;text-align: left;margin: 5px 0;font-size: 12px;color:#333;"><span class="TitleText">Lorem Ipsum Lorem Ipsum</span> </div>
<div id="product-wrapper">
<div class="product">
<div class="container">
<img src="images/circle.png">
<p>Dummy</p>
</div>
</div>
<div class="product">
<div class="container">
<img src="images/circle.png">
<p>Dummy</p>
</div>
</div>
<div class="product">
<div class="container">
<img src="images/circle.png">
<p>Dummy</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Here is my solution.
The key is removing the margin-right: 10px and adding
.product:nth-child(1) .container{
margin-right:5px;
}
.product:nth-child(2) .container{
margin: 0 5px 0 5px;
}
.product:nth-child(3) .container{
margin-left: 5px;
}
JSFiddle ===> https://jsfiddle.net/kjkk3f9d/1/
The margin-right: 10px was pushing out your divs, replace it with margin: 0 5px to give a uniform look
.product .container {
margin: 0px 5px;
padding: 10px;
background-color: #000;
}

https://jsfiddle.net/kjkk3f9d/2/
the important styles are
#product-wrapper {
overflow: hidden;
margin-top: 25px;
display: flex;
justify-content: space-between;
}
.product {
flex-basis:0;
flex: 1 1 auto;
margin: 5px;
}
Why this is happening? I need someone who can explain why divs not aligning properly?
HTML and CSS:
.horizontal-ruler {
width: 100%;
height: 25px;
line-height: 25px;
display: block;
font-size: 14px;
color: #373737;
}
.horizontal-ruler .ruler-unit {
width: 30px;
text-align: center;
display: inline-block;
line-height: 25px;
height: 25px;
vertical-align: middle;
}
.h-ruler-first-line,
.h-ruler-second-line {
width: calc(50% - 15px);
margin: 12px 0;
height: 1px;
background-color: #373737;
display: inline-block;
}
<div class="horizontal-ruler">
<div class="h-ruler-first-line"></div><!--
--><div class="ruler-unit">24"</div><!--
--><div class="h-ruler-second-line"></div>
</div>
https://jsfiddle.net/6xuvr6vw/1/
As you can see the .ruler-unit is not contained into the .horizontal-ruler.
You need to add vertical-align: middle to lines also
.horizontal-ruler {
width: 100%;
height: 25px;
line-height: 25px;
display: block;
font-size: 14px;
color: #373737;
}
.horizontal-ruler .ruler-unit {
width: 30px;
text-align: center;
display: inline-block;
line-height: 25px;
height: 25px;
vertical-align: middle;
}
.h-ruler-first-line,
.h-ruler-second-line {
width: calc(50% - 15px);
vertical-align: middle;
margin: 12px 0;
height: 1px;
background-color: #373737;
display: inline-block;
}
<div class="horizontal-ruler">
<div class="h-ruler-first-line"></div><!--
--><div class="ruler-unit">24"</div><!--
--><div class="h-ruler-second-line"></div>
</div>
You can achieve it with just 2 div elements using :after and :before pseudo elements.
.horizontal-ruler{
text-align: center;
overflow: hidden;
line-height: 25px;
font-size: 14px;
color: #373737;
height: 25px;
}
.horizontal-ruler .ruler-unit {
display: inline-block;
vertical-align: top;
position: relative;
padding: 0 10px;
}
.horizontal-ruler .ruler-unit:before,
.horizontal-ruler .ruler-unit:after {
background-color: #373737;
position: absolute;
margin-top: -1px;
width: 9999px;
height: 1px;
right: 100%;
content: '';
top: 50%;
}
.horizontal-ruler .ruler-unit:after {
right: auto;
left: 100%;
}
<div class="horizontal-ruler">
<div class="ruler-unit">24"</div>
</div>
A slightly different approach to your solution -this features a border bottom on the entire div and the a relative position of the text down over the line to give the appearance that it is two line separated by the text content. Could probably be better - just dodgied it up to show you an alternative that does not take much code to achieve the same effect.
.horizontal-ruler{
border-bottom:solid 1px #373737;
text-align:center;
}
.ruler-unit{
font-size:24px;
width:30px;
margin:0 auto;
padding: 0 10px;
position:relative;
top:14px;
background:white;
}
<div class="horizontal-ruler">
<div class="ruler-unit">24"</div>
</div>
Add vertical-align: middle to the lines:
.h-ruler-first-line, .h-ruler-second-line {
width: calc(50% - 15px);
margin: 12px 0;
height: 1px;
background-color: #373737;
display: inline-block;
vertical-align: middle;
}
