CSS : Scroll two div side by side independently - html

I have two columns and certain contents in both the columns.
I want a scroll to the each div when content is bigger.
I have fixed header and when I scroll then two divs is also scrolling.
I want only one div to be scrolled whenever I want to do so.
.b-r{
border-right: thin black solid;
}
.margin_top_600px{
margin-top:600px;
}
<link href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet" integrity="sha384-BVYiiSIFeK1dGmJRAkycuHAHRg32OmUcww7on3RYdg4Va+PmSTsz/K68vbdEjh4u" crossorigin="anonymous">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-lg-6 col-md-6 col-sm-6 col-xs-6 b-r padding_bottom_70" >
<p class="margin_top_600px">
Left side Data
</p>
</div>
<div class="col-lg-6 col-md-6 col-sm-6 col-xs-6 b-r padding_bottom_70" >
<p class="margin_top_600px">
Right side Data
</p>
</div>
</div>
If I want to scroll for only left side data then only that div should scroll.
Any help would be great.
Thank you.

You need to set height and overflow: auto; to .b-r:
.b-r{
border-right: thin black solid;
height: 100vh;
overflow: auto;
}
.margin_top_600px{
margin-top:600px;
}
<link href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.7/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet" integrity="sha384-BVYiiSIFeK1dGmJRAkycuHAHRg32OmUcww7on3RYdg4Va+PmSTsz/K68vbdEjh4u" crossorigin="anonymous">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-lg-6 col-md-6 col-sm-6 col-xs-6 b-r padding_bottom_70" >
<p class="margin_top_600px">
Left side Data
</p>
</div>
<div class="col-lg-6 col-md-6 col-sm-6 col-xs-6 b-r padding_bottom_70" >
<p class="margin_top_600px">
Right side Data
</p>
</div>
</div>
To hide scrollbar you need to define one more wrapping div with overflow-y: scroll;. Outer div should have overflow: hidden;
scroll available with hidden scrollbars
.b-r{
border-right: thin black solid;
height: 100vh;
overflow: hidden;
}
.margin_top_600px{
margin-top:600px;
}
.scrll_hide {
float: right;
height: 100%;
width: calc(100% + 48px);
overflow-y: scroll;
margin: 0 -32px 0 0 !important;

How can I make content's columns scale with image size?

I'm currently facing trouble when making layout. In the below picture, i want to make the content columns on the right ( title,lorem...) scale to fit height of the image on the left. How can I do it?
I'm using Bootstrap v5.1.1

Use Bootstrap's flex grid (which is the default) rather than setting column sizes.
Use the col-auto class on your image column to make it collapse to the image's width.
Don't set inline sizing on your grid or your content. Inline styles make development and maintenance more difficult. Use a class for your image if you like, with a semantic name so you can change the size value for a redesign without the name becoming wrong.

What I have noticed is that col-lg-7 and col-lg-5 or for that matter col-lg-2 and col-lg-10 are not rendered as columns in Bootstrap. Can you please let me know where I am missing - I have a feeling that the div ordering or usage of rows and containers is missing something.
As a side note, I also see that on Chrome the distortion is more - the columns are not getting rendered at all, but on Firefox it renders to some extent - for example the first few columns.
Edit: My problem now is that I am trying to build a clone for http://kamsolutions.pl/projects/resume/ and in my implementation, I see that the resulting HTML file has columns and rows mixed up and not getting rendered as expected. Here is the picture that I am referring to.
Thanks,
Pavan.
You have a row, within which you have two columns, col-lg-7 and col-lg-5. Within the col-lg-7 you have two additional rows, whereas within the col-lg-5 you only have one row. That's where your blank space is coming from.

Bootstrap 4 , handle responsive div's

I have 7 divs.
Since col can only go upto 12.
I cannot use .col-md-2 class to equally divide all.
So, I'm using the .col class to equally divide all.
Now to make it responsive I need to make all div width to 100% in mobile view.
Though col-xs-12 will work, but its not working on same div if i add class="col col-xs-12". Also, I cannot use class="col-md-2 col-xs-12" since I have 7 div's and col-md-2 will break 1 div.
Any suggestions about how to do it.
Since Boostrap 4 has a mobile first mentality, you have to think this way. So first declare the default class col-12 and then get back to desktop with col-md or col-lg depending on your needs.
It's explained better in B4 documentation found here: https://getbootstrap.com/docs/4.3/layout/grid/
So your div's will look like <div class="col-12 col-md"></div>.
Hope this answer helped!
since this question has the answer marked, but I think I still have to clarify some points.
When you use col-md (without col-md-[1-12]) combined with the intention of having 7 equal columns, Bootstrap 4 will use flex-grow: 1; as default. This might lead you to misunderstand that flex-grow: 1; will equally divide parent width into 7 small equal width. This won't work as you though if the content of any div has a width larger than a column width.
There is a simple formula to remember when it comes to flex width, it is:
content —> width —> flex-basis (limted by max|min-width)
There's an excellent article explaining this, you can visit here to see the difference between these two.
Back to your case, let's just say you have a div with 500px width, now all 7 divs won't have the same width. In this case, you should explicitly define a custom column grid. It will look like this:
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col col-12 custom-col-7">Data</div>
...
</div>
</div>
#media screen and (min-width: 768px) {
.col.custom-col-7 {
flex: 0 0 auto;
width: calc(100%/7);
}
}
I made a simple sample to illustrate my point, hope this help
.col {
background: lightgreen;
margin-bottom: 50px;
}
#media screen and (min-width: 768px) {
.col.custom-col-7 {
flex: 0 0 auto;
width: calc(100%/7);
}
}
.box {
background: red;
width: 300px;
}

<h4>Using `col-md`</h4>
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col col-md col-12">Lorem ipsum, dolor sit amet consectetur adipisicing elit. Itaque officia, culpa, nemo numquam illum totam odio dolorem nisi ad in animi! Sequi illo voluptatem dolores.</div>
<div class="col col-md col-12">Col Data</div>
<div class="col col-md col-12">Col Data</div>
<div class="col col-md col-12">Col Data</div>
<div class="col col-md col-12">
<div class="box">Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit. Tempore, numquam et obcaecati, optio rerum animi aspernatur in similique id</div>

<h4>Using custom column class</h4>

well the code class="col-md-6 col-sm-12 padding-0" means that at screen ≥576px the element should take full width (aka width:100%) of available width but if the screen is ≥768px then the element should take half the available width (aka width:50%).
So if you need your div containing image and div with details to be side by side on screens ≥768px (usually tablets in portrait mode) then simply use col-md-6 you don't need to specify col-sm-12 as by default div elements are block level elements and take full width of available space.
Also you don't need padding-0 class you can use Bootstrap 4's spacing classes such as p-0, p-1, p-3, pt-1, py-3 etc. to remove or add padding so your final classes should look like this:
class="col-md-6 p-0"
You Need to give the extra class in first col-md-6 i have given class name res and write a media query for that like these
<style>
#media only screen and (min-device-width : 320px) and (max-device-width : 480px)
{
.res{
min-width:100%;
}
}
</style>
