I have a struct which I convert to JSON in the old fashioned way:

I want to read an arbitrary JSON file from the filesystem, which can be defined as anything by the user, and then add it to the existing JSON string, taking the duplicates from the original.
How can I do this?

Input JSON :

"runbook": "http://url",
"message": "there is a problem"
}
It's better to unmarshal the input JSON and combine the two structures before marshaling Output struct.

Golang Gin Validation and SQLC

I am using SQLC to generate structures based on my schema and Gin for the web API.
After viewing this topic here: Golang how to use Validator with SqlC, I noticed the answer specifically says:
I wasn't able to change the Param structs but I guess using the table
main struct use the validation.
This is exactly the behavior I am after. I noticed that if I have a query that uses a subset of a given table, e.g.:

Using Gin, I want to invoke the CreateUserBasic with the received data and JSON can be directly Unmashall-ed into the CreateUserBasicParams structure, but unfortunately without the decorators on the params structure, missing fields are permitted during parsing and it seems I will need to re-create a new structure with a nearly identical layout to the CreateUserBasicParams struct, only with the proper tags:

How can I best apply arbitrary validation to the SQLC-generated "Params" structures without re-creating the structure or modifying the tags?
As you are using per-column overrides, the indentation level for "overrides" should match the version line in the yaml file. For example:

Write specific JSON fields to file

I've just started studying Golang and don't understand how to write only specific JSON fields to an output file.
For example I have this struct:

How can I do it?
If I understood correctly, you'd like to omit some of the fields when marshalling to JSON. Then use json:"-" as a field tag.
Per the json.Marshal(...) documentation:
As a special case, if the field tag is "-", the field is always omitted.
So you just need to use the tag "-" for any public field that you do not want serialized, for example (Go Playground):

Go: unexpected end of JSON input and json.Unmarshal returns nil values

I'm testing out how to unmarshal a json response from an API I'm using.
The json looks something like the following;

I've searched around for various ways to do this, but fail to get this to work. The unmarshal returns zero values. I also get an error "unexpected end of JSON input" (I've removed the error handling in the example).

I think you can see the difference: the elements of the array here are JSON Objects with a "Data" field, which then are modeled with your Obj. This input JSON is then properly parsed with your original parsing code, you can try it on the Go Playground:

How to access fields of a JSON in GO

Hi everyone I'm trying to see what the proper way of accessing fields of a json object from a http.get request in go.
I first do an http.get call get the JSON and then print it (which works) but is there a way to access just a field?
for example:
response, err:= http.Get("URL")

Use encoding/json package to Unmarshal data into struct, like following.

You can also parse Test to specific struct.
Same as the previous answer, use encoding/json package to Unmarshal data. But if you don't want to specify the structure, you could use map[string]interface/bson.M{} to receive the data, and get the field, then cast into types your want.

If you just want to access one field then you can use the jsonq module https://godoc.org/github.com/jmoiron/jsonq
For your example you could get the test object with code similar to
jq.Object("test")
Where jq is a jsonq query object constructed from your JSON above (see the godoc page for instructions on how to create a query object from a JSON stream or string).
You can also use this library for retrieving specific String, Integer, Float and Bool values at an arbitrary depth inside a JSON object.
Since you are starting with a URL, Decode is a better option than Unmarshal:

The biggest fix that was needed is when Unmarshalling an array, that property needs to be an array/slice in the struct as well.
For example:
{ "things": ["a", "b", "c"] }
Would Unmarshal into a:
type Item struct {
Things []string
}
And not into:
type Item struct {
Things string
}
The other thing to watch out for when Unmarshaling is that the types line up exactly. It will fail when Unmarshalling a JSON string representation of a number into an int or float field -- "1" needs to Unmarshal into a string, not into an int like we saw with ShippingAdditionalCost int
Determining of root cause is not an issue since Go 1.8; field name now is shown in the error message:
json: cannot unmarshal object into Go struct field Comment.author of type string
You JSON doesn't match your struct fields: E.g. "district" in JSON and "District" as the field.
Also: Your Item is a slice type but your JSON is a dict value. Do not mix this up. Slices decode from arrays.
Just in case you're looking for an answer to this from an AWS perspective, particularly if you're trying to use UnmarshalListOfMaps() on the items coming back from a DynamoDB query(), then watch out for a simple typo I made.
Given that this function UnmarshalListOfMaps() takes in...a list of maps :-) then it needs to unmarshal into a List of whatever struct you're trying to build, and not just the plain struct itself. This was throwing me off because I was trying to start by querying for something that should only return one row.

The problem is in the first line. It should be movies := []Movie{} and then the reference &movie needs to change to &movies as well. If you leave it just as it is above, then the AWS Go SDK will throw this error:
cannot unmarshal list into Go value of type (etc).
If you ever face this while typing yml file not copy-pasting, it might be a problem with your yml file - mine was wrong indent.
This happened while making pipeline on concourse.
