'File already exists in database: caffe.proto' on make runtest - caffe

When I tried to install the latest caffe on my MacbookPro (El Capitan), I got following errors. What's wrong? How to fix it?
I found a few similar issues on this site, unfortunately shown fix seems ubuntu specific.
Thank you in advance.
bash-3.2$ make runtest
make runtest
.build_release/tools/caffe
[libprotobuf ERROR google/protobuf/descriptor_database.cc:57] File already exists in database: caffe.proto
[libprotobuf FATAL google/protobuf/descriptor.cc:1164] CHECK failed: generated_database_->Add(encoded_file_descriptor, size):
libc++abi.dylib: terminating with uncaught exception of type google::protobuf::FatalException: CHECK failed: generated_database_- >Add(encoded_file_descriptor, size):
make: *** [runtest] Abort trap: 6
bash-3.2$

I faced a similar error. In my case, switching from Protobuf 2.6.1 to the latest Protobuf Version (i.e. 3.4.1) resolved the problem. Good luck!

This is typically an issue with libprotobuf. You need to re-install protobuf debian and then rebuild caffe as shown below:
Uninstall the existing protobuf:
sudo apt-get remove libprotobuf-dev protobuf-compiler
sudo apt-get remove libprotobuf-lite8 libprotoc8
sudo apt-get remove python-protobuf
Re-install protobuf. Follow all the steps given at steps to install protobuf (2.6.1) debian.
Rebuild caffe

There is an error when making Docker Image in rails project(cannot install mysql-client)

When I tried to build an docker image in my rails project. There was an error with the installation of mysql-client.
The error message was like this:
=> E: Package 'mysql-client' has no installation candidate
Thank you for reading!!
The problem is, you're following instructions which were written when the Docker images were based on Ubuntu. At some point, these older images were changed to base off of Debian. This has caused lots of breakage.
To fix this particular error, change mysql-client to default-mysql-client in your Dockerfile.

installing percona server on mac OS Symbol not found: _clock_gettime

I recently installed percona-server through brew and got this exception when running mysql.server start:
dyld: lazy symbol binding failed: Symbol not found: _clock_gettime
Referenced from: /usr/local/Cellar/percona-server/5.7.16-10/bin/mysqld
Expected in: /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib
What's going on?
For the moment, until the patch will be released, manually editing the source code as described in this pull request will fix this issue.
Then I did:
1) Edit the the source code percona-server.rb (vim /usr/local/Homebrew/Library/Taps/homebrew/homebrew-core/Formula/percona-server.rb) adding lines following lines at line 76 more or less (after ']' and before '# PAM...')
if MacOS.version == "10.11" && MacOS::Xcode.installed? && MacOS::Xcode.version >= "8.0"
args << "-DHAVE_CLOCK_GETTIME:INTERNAL=0"
end
2) Reinstall with modified source:
brew reinstall -s percona-server
3) Start the server
mysql.server start
or to start automatically the service at boot time
brew services start percona-server
For me worked, waiting from pull to be released...
Thanks for #njt1982 which create the pull and share how to do those things and mostly to #ilovezfs which create/share the patch for some packets still useful for those issues!
SR
So apparently there were issues using el capitan and what solved my problem was brew installing percona-server56 as so:
brew uninstall percona-server
brew install percona-server56

Failed to Install Mysql 5.7

i try to install mysql server 5.7 in my beaglebone black with OS Debian Jessie, i following this instruction http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql-apt-repo-quick-guide/en/#apt-repo-setup . but when i using apt-get update, it always give me an error.
W: Failed to fetch http://repo.mysql.com/apt/debian/dists/jessie/InRelease Unable to find expected entry 'mysql-apt-config/binary-armhf/Packages' in Release file (Wrong sources.list entry or malformed file)
This error is make me insane, i try to using apt-get clean, deleting mysql.list but still give me that error.
Really appreciate if you can help me, thanks.
I guess this means that this repository doesn't provide ARMv7 hardfloat builds of packages. Probably only meant for i386 and AMD64 machines.
You could install mySQL 5.6 from jessie-backports if that version is enough for your needs. If you need 5.7 you'd either need to rebuild packages (very slow) or dist-upgrade to Debian SID (beware, can be unstable).

Octave imread function

I installed latest Octave on Ubuntu 14.04 machine. However, when I tried to run imread command, it showed the following error message:
octave:12> imread('newfile.png')
error: imread: invalid image file: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/octave/3.8.1/oct/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/__magick_read__.oct: failed to load: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/octave/3.8.1/oct/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/__magick_read__.oct: undefined symbol: _ZN6Magick5ColorC1Ehhh

error: /usr/share/octave/3.8.1/m/image/imread.m at line 107, column 30
Can someone please suggest how to solve it?
Thanks!
Following these steps worked for me [Author: Christoffer Cronström (hymyly)]:
Install the dev packages needed to build octave.
sudo apt-get build-dep octave
Get the official source package. Do this in a clean directory, because it will get polluted.
cd ~/some/suitable/directory
apt-get source octave
Build it. This took roughly an hour for me.
cd octave-3.8.2
dpkg-buildpackage
Either run it from the build directory:
./run-octave
...or most preferably install it over the official octave:
cd ..
sudo dpkg --install octave_3.8.2-4_amd64.deb
From: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/octave/+bug/1372202
How did you instal Octave? The error suggests that you're missing GraphicsMagick C++ interface (package libgraphicsmagick++3) but
if you installed Octave from Ubuntu's package manager you should not have had this problem; * if you compiled it yourself, Octave should have disabled imread completely and you'd have a very different error message.
So my guess is that you build it yourself, either with:
your own build of GraphicsMagick++ which are not being loaded anymore, you may need to add their path to the dynamic linker load path (either on /etc/ld.so.conf.d./graphicsmagick or define LD_LIBRARY_PATH);
the libraries from the package manager which you have since accidentally removed (since you did not install Octave from the repositories, your package manager will not know that libgraphicsmagick++ is installed for a reason).
Either way, the solution is easy. Install Octave from Ubuntu's package manager. One of the main reasons package managers exist is to avoid this type of problems, i.e., missing dependencies.

i found this resource : http://www.clausconrad.com/blog/installing-caldecott-on-windows
which was helpfull but my problem was i had multiple ruby installations on my system !
so make sure you are using the right ruby installation and delete the others if needed :
i had :
C:/Program Files/ruby-1.9.2/bin/ruby.exe
and
C:\Ruby193\bin\ruby.exe
i deleted the first one and everything went fine , be sure to install the devkit like the link says , and everything should be allright.
There's an issue installing eventmachine on Windows. Try this instead:
gem install eventmachine --pre
gem install caldecott
To install Caldecott requires Ruby 1.9.2.
Check version by
ruby -v
if not 1.9
update the version and re try to install
first make sure that you installed C compiler in your local computer...
if you are using Linux you can run the following command:
sudo apt-get install g++
if you are in windows you will have find a C compiler from the net.
After installing this C compiler, you can now run
sudo gem install caldecott
If this is not working, try
ruby -v
to see if the version is 1.9.3 or above....
then repeat
hope that helps
