I was wondering how can I add an iframe between the header and the footer of my webpage, I mean in the blank between the header and footer. I tried height 100% but it overrides the header! I am using the template from http://materializecss.com/templates/starter-template/preview.html. Can anyone help please? Thanks
Use CSS position and top to position the iFrame below the header.
Try using
position:absolute;
top:65px;
left:0px;
See here:
http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/pr_pos_top.asp
http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_positioning.asp
To add an iframe in HTML between the header and footer, you will place this code, but change the source to whatever you want to point it to.
<iframe src="http://www.unlocktheinbox.com"></iframe>
The width and height, if set to 100% is going to be confined to the parent elements on you form, which looks like one of your DIV's.
So on your example page, remove this code.
Replace this code with.
<div class="section no-pad-bot" id="index-banner">
<div class="container">
<br><br>
<h1 class="header center orange-text">Starter Template</h1>
<div class="row center">

I am a beginner in web designing. I know some basics about layout in CSS.
I am tried to create a blog post layout, given in the picture below.
see image layout
Please help me to do that.
Welcome to StackOverflow! As heads up, usually you will want to come here for more specific questions to solve problems with your code, or to explain weird behavior you didn't quite understand. Your question is a little bit too open ended to be answered here but I can help you get started:
For starters, start thinking about translating every box in your picture into an HTML div. If you break each part of that picture into divs it can be a good foundation to add your css styling on top of. In your case, you might want something like this:
<div id="articleList">
<div id="article_1">
<div id="articleImage_1">
<img src="articleImage_1.jpg" alt="Picture #1">
</div>
<div id="articleContent_1">
<div id="articleTags_1"></div>
<div id="articleTitle_1"></div>
<div id="articleAuthorNameAndCommentsSubheader_1"></div>
<div id="articleBody_1"></div>
</div>
</div>
<div id="article_2">
<div id="articleImage_2">
<img src="articleImage_2.jpg" alt="Picture #2">
</div>
<div id="articleContent_2">
<div id="articleTags_2"></div>
<div id="articleTitle_2"></div>
<div id="articleAuthorNameAndCommentsSubheader_2"></div>
<div id="articleBody_2"></div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Of course you would be generating each row inside a for loop or .map() type function. You would also add in your .css in a 'class' attribute for every div.
Please let me know if you find this helpful by selecting my post as the answer, and don't be shy if you have any more questions :)
If you know about boostrap than you can use this boostrap card to create that layout you want. Here is the sample code for it.
<div class="card w-50">
<div class="card-img-top d-flex align-items-center bg-light">
<div>
<img class="img-fluid" src="http://via.placeholder.com/150x150/1f1a38/ffffff?
text=Image" alt="Card image cap">
</div>
<p class="col p-2 m-0">Text next to the right of the image</p>
</div>
</div>

I am new to UI,
creating one blog layout in HTML with Bootstrap4, I am following this layout...'removed', how to create first div fixed and second scroll-able and then one full width banner and so on.
Before posting a question here, you need to try something from your end then if you are stuck, you can post questions here to get an answer.
First Step:
You need to learn the basics of HTML & CSS. (https://www.w3schools.com/html/html_css.asp)
To make a section FIXED, you need to use the POSITION property in CSS. (https://www.w3schools.com/css/css_positioning.asp)
I guess these are enough for you to get started.
Happy learning!
div class="container-fluid">
<div class="w-100 bg-dark" style="height: 50px;">
</div>
<div class="row" >
<div class="col-6 bg-primary" style="height: 50vh;">
<div class="position-fixed bg-danger">
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-6 bg-secondary " style="height: 100vh;">
</div>
</div>
</div>
don't forget to put height and width
///
Other and I think better way :
<div class="container-fluid">
<div class="row">
<aside class="col-2 px-0 fixed-top bg-danger">
</aside>
<main class="col offset-2 h-100">
</main>
</div>
I have a Question:
I´m using this template from MaterializeCss:
http://materializecss.com/templates/starter-template/preview.html
As you can see, there are 3 Icon section on this page, with three different icons.
My Question: Is there a way to replace this icons with a image (.png)
This is the code for the first Icon in the Icon Section:
<div class="row">
<div class="col s12 m4">
<div class="icon-block">
<h2 class="center light-blue-text"><i class="material-icons">flash_on</i></h2>
<h5 class="center">Speeds up development</h5>
<p class="light">We did most of the heavy lifting for you to provide a default stylings that incorporate our custom components. Additionally, we refined animations and transitions to provide a smoother experience for developers.</p>
</div>
</div>
I already tried it like this:
<div class="row">
<div class="col s12 m4">
<div class="icon-block">
// HERE IS THE NEW PART
<img src="img/pic1.png" height="142" width="142">
<h5 class="center">Speeds up development</h5>
<p class="light">We did most of the heavy lifting for you to provide a default stylings that incorporate our custom components. Additionally, we refined animations and transitions to provide a smoother experience for developers.</p>
</div>
</div>
But unfortunately the image is not shown centered...

I have just started to learn bootstrap. And this is the first time I have ever used grids for a layout. Something I don't understand about grids is where I should put my content.
Should I do like this:
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">
<p> My content </p>
</div>
</div>
Or should I use a parent element for my content like this
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">
<div> or <footer> or <aside> or <content> etc
<p> My content </p>
</div> or </footer> or </aside> or </content> etc
</div>
</div>
If the answer is the second. Is there ever a reason where it is okay to put content directly into the column? Or have I misunderstod everything and it should be done in a completly other way?
What is "best practice"?
The best way is like this:
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">
<div class="your-widget-name">
Widget code here…
<div>
</div>
</div>
This way, your widgets can be used across multiple layouts.
Using separate divs for the grid can increase the amount of markup, but make the code easier to maintain.
Content should be put inside your column as stated in bootstrap documentation
Both are correct in your example since grid is just for layout, you can put any block or inline elements in it.
Most important rule to follow - .container is parent,its child's are .row, .col goes inside rows and your content goes in .col.
Eg. You want to put Image on center with paragraphs on side.
<link href="http://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.5/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet"/>
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-xs-4">
<p>Lorem ipsum</p>
</div>
<div class="col-xs-4">
<img src="http://placehold.it/150x150" alt="image"/>
</div>
<div class="col-xs-4">
<p>Lorem ipsum summun</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
As asked in the title, I am creating a website by using bootstrap v3.3.2.
The first question is that I am using the grid system to align the caption to the right of the thumbnail as shown below:
<div class="container">
<div class="thumbnail">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-6">
<a href="#">
<img class="img-responsive" src="images/pic.jpg">
</a>
</div>
<div class="col-md-6">
<div class="caption">
<h2>Title</h2>
<hr>
<p>A design specification provides explicit information about the requirements for a product and how the product is to be put together. It is the most traditional kind of specification, having been used historically in public contracting for buildings, highways, and other public works, and represents the kind of thinking in which architects and engineers have been trained.</p>
<hr>
<p class="caption-footer">
<span class="glyphicon glyphicon-heart"></span> Like it
<span class="glyphicon glyphicon-share"></span> Share it
</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Which turns out to be something like this:
As noticed, there is a large margin to the left of the image, which is not ideal. And when I resize the screen, it became more undesirable, with large margin to both side as shown below:
I think this may caused by the grid system since the col-md-6 has a fixed width. However I do not know how to fixe this.
The second question is that I try to align the two buttons to the bottom of the caption by adding a new class called caption-footer. However, this does not work.
Below is my CSS file for class caption-footer and how it turns out to be:
caption-footer{
position: absolute;
bottom:0;
left: 0;
}
I have checked quite a few links here (like: link1 link2). But none of them seems to work for my case.
Thanks in advance for any help!
One thing you can do simply place caption under col-md-12 div and buttons under another col-md-12 div.
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-6">
<a href="pulpitrock.jpg" class="thumbnail">
<p>Pulpit Rock: A famous tourist attraction in Forsand, Ryfylke, Norway.</p>
<img src="pulpitrock.jpg" alt="Pulpit Rock" width="284" height="213">
</a>
</div>
<div class="col-md-6">
<div class="col-md-12">
