Access report export to a word file - ms-access

Is it possible to export an access report to a .docx file?
At the moment we export only .pdf but also need the word document

This can easily be accomplished with the Docmd.OutputTo method.
Here is a link to the formal documentation: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ff192065.aspx
Here is a one-line example of how I would do it:
Docmd.OutputTo acOutputReport, "rptMyReport", acFormatRTF, "C:\Users\User\Documents\MyExportedReport.rtf"
However, while this method can export it as an rtf (which can be opened in Word), it can't do it as a docx. Does this report need to be converted to that docx format? If so, a little more complicated procedure may need to be involved to accomplish this.

If you have the pdf open with Adobe Acrobat, you can simply save as a Word file.
File > Save as > Microsoft Word > Word Document
The same goes for Microsoft Word if you decide to export it as a RTF file and still want to convert to .doc or .docx.
File > Save as > Word Document
VBA Route:
Exporting a report to word format (.doc & docx) are not supported in the Docmd.OutputTo.
However there looks like there is a method that will work the way you want it to found here: Exporting MS access Report to MS Word using VBA

How can I use VBA code to convert a .html file to an existing .xlsm file?

I have software that generates a 2x 25,000 table of numbers in an .html format. My current process is opening the .html, saving as Excel workbook, etc.
The goal is to automate the process, import the data to Excel, and generate graphs and box charts. I have used macros to accomplish the latter but I am struggling with getting the .html data into the existing .xlsm.
I have found this code, from a helpful thread on Stack Overflow:
Sub Open_HTML_Save_XLSX()
Workbooks.Open Filename:="C:\Temp\Example.html"
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs "C:\Temp\Example.xlsx", xlOpenXMLWorkbook
End Sub
However, I'm not sure how to use it. I've been using custom made keyboard shortcuts to access my macros such as Ctrl+Shift+Q. I also don't know how to edit it to suit .xlsm.

Merge multiple access reports to one pdf file using vba

I wan't to merge multiple access reports to one pdf file using vba code. This vba code needs to work on the computers at my work. These computers only contain Adobe Reader, and I am not able to install Acrobat because I am not Administrator. So now my code generates for all the reports a seperate pdf. I had some code to merge these pdf files to one pdf file where I use 'Acrobat.CAcroApp'. But i get an error on line:
Set AcroApp = CreateObject("AcroExch.App")
I think I am not able to do this cause the computers only have Adobe Reader installed. Is there a possibility to create one pdf file for multiple reports/pdfs without using Acrobat.
Thx in advance
2 solutions.
Make a master report that has each individual report embedded as a sub report. If it's just a few, it should work fine, but too many may bog down / crash the application.
Here's a VBA way of doing it here.
Without acrobat reader this is indeed not going to work. I, however, am using the following dirty workaround for users without acrobat;
Export all your reports to rich text ("*.RTF" format) in the same folder. Afterwards, you open a word application via access vba, and loop through the RTF files and then copy them into your word file, with a page break after every insert. Then, you save the word document as a .PDF file.
This is a method prone to errors, so if a more experienced user has a better way, please do tell. I'm interested as well!

CodedUI test does not read data from CSV input file

I am having difficulty mapping a CSV file with the Coded UI test method. This is most likely a stupid question but I cannot seem to find a solution for my problem, at least not one that works. I have made sure to set the property of the CSV file to Copy always.
I have also imported the CSV file by writing the following line above the test method.
[DataSource("Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.DataSource.CSV", "|DataDirectory|\\Data\\login.csv", "login#csv", DataAccessMethod.Sequential), DeploymentItem("login.csv"), TestMethod]
The file name is login.csv and it resides in the Data folder.
The test will compile without any problem but once the test executes the fields that should receive input from the CSV file are left empty and the execution is interrupted. I've tried replacing the data from the CSV file by using Strings and it works perfectly fine. The piece of code I am using to import each parameter is:
TestContext.DataRow["Username"].ToString()
Also, the CSV file contains something along the following lines:
Username,Password,Fullname
admin#mail.com,password,Admin
Is there anyone who can point what it is I am forgetting.
Update: I pinpointed the issue, it seems like the issue only revolves around the first column in the csv file. When I try to import any of the other values it works perfectly fine.
Some text files start with a Byte Order Mark (BOM). The CSV reader within Coded UI does not handle the BOM and treats it as part of the first field name. The screen shot below shows the debug trace of a CSV file with a BOM and that same file shown in Notepad++. The DataRow.ItemArray[...] values are as expected. The DataRow.Table.Columns.ResultsView[...] shows the field names, but the first field name includes the BOM.
This CSV file with a BOM was created in Visual Studio using Solution Explorer => Add => New item => C# => General => Text file. Previously I have created a spread sheet with Microsoft Excel and saved it as a CSV file, that file did not have a BOM. I have also created files with Notepad++ and saved as CSV and they did not have a BOM. It appears that Visual Studio creates files with a BOM but when editing CSV files it does not add a BOM.
Visual Studio can create files with the correct encoding. Within "Step 2 - Create a data set" of this Microsoft page it states the text below. (Thanks also to Holistic Developer for providing very similar details in a comment.):
It is important to save the .csv file using the correct encoding. On the FILE menu, choose Advanced Save Options and choose Unicode
(UTF-8 without signature) – Codepage 65001 as the encoding.
For Visaul Studio 2010, i could solve issue be selecting "Western European (Windows) - Codepage 1252" encoding for CSV files.
Summary of steps:
In visual studio 2010, Open CSV file > Go to File menu > Select " Advanced Save Options" > Select "Western European (Windows) - Codepage 1252" > Save.
This should help.
This is not the best solution but its kind of a workaround. I simply set the first element to something random and since I don't need access to the first element it doesn't matter that I don't have access to it.
If anyone finds a correct way to solve this problem I'd be grateful for your solution.

how to export datagrid to excel(.xlsx format only) without using server side technology and as3xls?

Presently I am using as3xls.swc to export datagrid to excel which is giving me only to save as .xls format which is opening in microsoft excel 2010 which is OK for me, but it is only opening in protected mode where I am unable to do any edits or save it. So, can anybody know any other way to save as .xlsx format in the client side itself?
Protected mode is a feature of Excel within the Microsoft operating system. They're trying to keep you from inadvertently downloading viruses. You can defeat these measures by modifying the Excel trust store. It has nothing to do with your code, and you don't need to use older versions of Excel.
I find it easiest to add a trusted location (like your desktop).

You can export to Excel2007 - its just an xml file format. WE have some details on our blog: http://blog.flexicious.com/post/Flexicious-30-Release-Grid-Edition.aspx. Keep in mind however, it generates an XML file, which when you double click on, will correctly open up excel (Assuming you have excel 2007 or the reader installed).

Cognos - How to extract query name, data item names, and expressions into a file (excel or txt)

I wanted to know if there was a quick way to get all the data items from my cognos report from each query and it's expression and be able to extract it into a text or excel file. I think possibly something can be done with the XML though I'm not too familiar with it.
First copy your report specification to clipboard:
Then open XML Editor that support XPath and issue the following expression:
/report/queries/query
Copy the result to additional XML file and open it in Excel as XML table.
You should get result similar to this (Excel 2010):
Or just save your report as XML and open it in Excel
