Bootstrap template not getting displayed - html

I am trying to build a webpage using this Bootstrap template
(http://getbootstrap.com/examples/jumbotron/).
I have placed the html and bootstrap-3.3.6 folder in the same folder.
I simple copied the code from "view page source" and executed this html in firefox.
The elements are getting displayed however the formatting is missing. Can someone please let me know what am I doing wrong?
This is the code that I have in the head part:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge">

I added a link to bootstrap cdn and it worked.

If you are going to make a website with Bootsrap you should make proper directory structure. Every time I use like below.
bootstrap/
├── css/
│ ├── bootstrap.css
│ ├── bootstrap.css.map
│ ├── bootstrap.min.css
│ ├── bootstrap.min.css.map
│ ├── bootstrap-theme.css
│ ├── bootstrap-theme.css.map
│ ├── bootstrap-theme.min.css
│ └── bootstrap-theme.min.css.map
├── js/
│ ├── bootstrap.js
│ └── bootstrap.min.js
└── fonts/
├── glyphicons-halflings-regular.eot
├── glyphicons-halflings-regular.svg
├── glyphicons-halflings-regular.ttf
├── glyphicons-halflings-regular.woff
└── glyphicons-halflings-regular.woff2
index.html
then you can include Js and CSs files like below
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">

If you are going to add some JS libraries for sliders or any other plugins you can create a directory called plugins and place those plugin files and include it with your web page so it make your website directory very clean and understandable.
If you have any problems please comment I can help you.
Thanks

Bootstrap how to put the nav bar in a drop menu for short screen?

I try to set up my index page from a combination of the jumbotron and the fix nav bar bootstrap examples.
Using the fix nav bar page of bootstrap, if one reduces the width of the window instead of a navbar list, you obtain a drop menu with the content of the navbar. In my case it does not work. I do not understand what is missing there.
Nevertheless, if I copy the lines between the <nav> and </nav> html tags into the bootstrap example pages it works.
This is my index.html page :

Bootstrap 4 how should I center my navigation properly?

After reading into some methods regarding the matter of the title of this question, I found out that I could use the .mx-auto class to center the navigation in Bootstrap 4. This solution works perfectly except that it has one drawback, namely the brand size in front of the navigation.
In this given example I show you what I mean by using the .mx-auto class by changing it from .mr-auto on the <ul> tag of the navigation in Bootstrap and the drawback I refered to earlier.
<link href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/4.0.0/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet"/>

(Make sure to view the result in a full page view due to Bootstrap's responsiveness to small windows, disabling the navigation bar version I am refering to).
As you might see the navigation appears to be correctly centered, however if a brand would be larger or if you would be inspecting the DOM, you will notice how the navigation <ul> element is actually not really centered in the middle of the page, but moved a bit to the right because of the brand space required to the left of the navigation.
What is the best way to approach a solution for this? How could I center my navigation exactly in the middle without regard of brand size and without touching the way the navigation would look like on a mobile screen?
Edit:
If I want the page to look exactly like the example, except I want the navigation to be exactly centered, would I need to require the use of position and/or media queries to prevent mobile screen size being changed? The given examples on some of the other answers do add elements to the DOM and I just don't want mobile view to change the way it is.
So: [brand][navigation]
Or: [brand][navigation][nothing]
Achieving this requires the following code according to ZimSystem's answer:
<link href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/4.0.0/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet"/>
<nav class="navbar navbar-expand-md navbar-dark fixed-top bg-dark justify-content-center">

Try to apply this to .collapse on your large screen media query position: absolute; left: 0; right: 0; so it will not affect smaller devices

I can't get this Bootstrap thing working properly

So, I'm trying to figure out how to make this website with Bootstrap(keep in mind I'm new to bootstrap) and the after figuring out how to put my nav bar on top of my carousel, everything worked out fine, but then when I tried to add content, it wouldn't pop up until I added a div tag, but once I did that it would go up to the top. I solved that by moving the nav code on top of the carousel. Now everything works the way I want it, but the carousel doesn't work. :/
Here's my code.

You just have Carousel as the id of the carousel and in the carousel controls your href is linking to #myCarousel so just change the id of the carousel to myCarousel and it should work also you have two end body tags and the scripts should go above the end body tag and no you have no end html tag
Your carousel is not working because the arrows are not linking to the correct slider ID in the href property. Change the property value from #myCarousel to the ID of your carousel, #Carousel:
<a class="left carousel-control" href="#Carousel" role="button" data-slide="prev">
<span class="glyphicon glyphicon-chevron-left" aria-hidden="true"></span>
<span class="sr-only">Previous</span>
</a>
<a class="right carousel-control" href="#Carousel" role="button" data-slide="next">
<span class="glyphicon glyphicon-chevron-right" aria-hidden="true"></span>
<span class="sr-only">Next</span>
</a>

You have couple of issues. 1) you have had an extra closing div after the closing div for <div class="main">. 2) you have used col-md-8 div without row or container, so it will consider the width of the parent.
Bootstrap .container class has a predefined width according to the screen size. as well as 'col-xx-xx` classes have their own width.
I have modified your markup and added a container and row inside the section. You may have look into this at: http://jsbin.com/OzAMeZI/1 and edit it at http://jsbin.com/OzAMeZI/1/edit .
If you want to get a white arrow shape to the col-md-8 class, you can consider :before or :after pseudo` classes to section or container elements. But, please make sure that you use media queried css styles.

Bootstrap 3 with blank space at the top above the navbar

I just downloaded Bootstrap 3 Dist which contains only css/js/fonts.
I created index.html and pasted the OffCanvas example, all works well so far.
I then changed the included navbar with the Fixed Top Navbar but now I see a 200px blank top space above the navbar that I cannot pinpoint using FireBug.
