Hi I am having trouble creating a Coded UI Test for a Windows Phone 8.0 application and would be grateful for some help.
Environment: Windows 8.1, Visual Studio 2013, and working with a Windows Phone App for Windows Phone 8.0.
I can start an emulator and deploy the application to the emulator.
I have added a new Coded UI Test project to the VS 2013 solution.
The Coded UI Test Builder is started.
I click the Start Recording button.
I click a button in the deployed application's UI, and see Click 'Input Capture Window' client displayed above the Coded UI Test Builder window.
I click the Pause Recording button.
I click the Generate Code button.
At this point, I hope and expect that code will be generated for this simple test without any problems.
Actually what happens is that an exception is displayed in a dialog box:
Type 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UITest.Extension.UITestException' in Assembly 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UITest.Extension,Version 12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f1d50a3a' is not marked as serializable.
I have seen this problem occur on two different Windows 8.1 machines and have tried googling to see if there is a solution to this, but have not found anything so far.
Thanks for any help, Martin
WP 8.0 automation is not supported by coded ui test. As per msdn only WinRT-XAML based phone apps (which were added in WP 8.1) are supported by coded ui test for phone.

I will attempt to be clear. Well, in the old web store of Windows Phone 8 before I could download manually any app or game, via the link: "Download and install manually" as you can see
in this image It is a feature that was lost with the arrival of the new store of Windows 10.
Ok. Now, in the following video Download and Install Apps (XAP/APPX Files) on WP8.1 via PC you can see at time t=53 sec, appears at bottom of page the link http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/vimeo/the App ID/xap?apptype=regular
After the user clicks on 'Download and install manually' a popup box appears. Now you can see inside the pop-up box that the downloading of the app is downloaded from: http://cdn.marketplacecontent.windowsphone.com
But in fact the complete address follows this format:
http://cdn.marketplacecontent.windowsphone.com/public/the App ID?downloadname=name of the app.type of file(xap, appx or appxbundle)
For example, this is the direction of the game Tentacles: Enter the Mind from the Microsoft CDN server:
http://cdn.marketplacecontent.windowsphone.com/public/8915ee7c-c55d-4e8f-a0b6-f80497e6f26e?downloadname=tentacles-enter-the-mind.xap
As you just seen, the old web store of Windows Phone 8 could download apps and games from the Microsoft CDN server. Even with the new store Windows 10 you can still download apps from Microsoft CDN. There are website that somehow can download apps and games from the Microsoft CDN server such as: www.appx4fun.com www.windowscommunity.in and www.winphonehub.org to mention some.
Based upon everything I said, you have any idea of how to I can access the Microsoft CDN server to download apps without resorting to third-party stores? I would like to know how they do it.
NOTE: All apps can be downloaded manually using this address:http://cdn.marketplacecontent.windowsphone.com/public/the App ID?downloadname=name of the app.type of file(xap, appx or appxbundle)but for it to work you need to know the ID of the app you want to download and the type of file. How can I find the ID of the app? Know the ID is a very important information!
Well, that's all. I hope your answer
Regards.
I have an application built with the Titanium SDK that runs fine on iOS and Android. Now that Windows Phone can be targeted using Appcelerator Studio, I tried to publish the app to this platform. It published and ran but the app looks horrible and behaves unexpected and clearly needs some work.
When I search through Appcelerator's documentation for the Titanium SDK, the properties and methods for say "Ti.UI.View" do not have the Windows supported logo next to them? How do I know what properties and methods of the various classes are supported / I can use? I will post an example link below. It is for Ti.UI.View
http://docs.appcelerator.com/platform/latest/#!/api/Titanium.UI.View-property-touchEnabled
Is there another source of documentation I am missing? Does anyone know if Appcelerator plan on updating their docs?
If the property does not clarify anything supports all e.g: BackgroundColor, but if the property supported only some are shown as follows: e.g BackgroundDisabledColor (Windows and Android)
I'm not sure if the documentation is up-to 100%

I recently submitted a very simple app to the WP app store that is basically buttons that play sounds on click.
However, the app failed certification for the following reason(s):
Comments: Result: Fail
The application terminates unexpectedly in response to user input.
Steps to Reproduce:
Play music from music+videos hub and Launch the application.
Tap on any option from MY APPS NAME HERE.
Notice the application unexpectedly terminates.
Comments: Result: Fail
The application terminates unexpectedly in response to user input.
Steps to reproduce:
Play music on the device from the Music + Videos Hub.
Launch the application.
Press the device's universal volume control.
Select "Pause" from the device's universal volume control.
Notice the application unexpectedly terminates.*
My questions are:
What is "the device's universal volume control" ?
How can I stop these errors from happening?
I used Blend to assign a sound to the buttons so there is no code to work with as far as I can see.
I've written similar apps for the Android market and always use a 'stop' and 'release' for each mediaplayer element at the beginning of each button's code. I'm assuming I need something similar here but not sure how to go about it in WP8. Any ideas?
Unviersal volume control refers to the phone physical volume buttons.
Did you have AdMod ads in your app? Recently i found an app with the same behavior failing certification and it was caused by AdMob control doesn't working right when the volume buttons show the volume popup over the app.
If you follow this link, you can see a workaround:

Hope this helps.
I added a uri association to my WMAppManifest.xml file in my Windows Phone 8 project and I'm able to successfully launch my app from within another app using LaunchUriAsync. I've also registered the same protocol in my Windows 8 project.
// windows phone 8 uri map
<Extensions>
<Protocol Name="myprotocol" NavUriFragment="encodedLaunchUri=%s" TaskID="_default" />
</Extensions>
On Windows 8, I am able to launch the app with by a simple hyperlink using my given protocol "myprotocol:".
On Windows Phone 8, I tried typing the protocol in the browser location bar, but I get an IE error saying this type of address is not supported. This makes me concerned I won't be able to launch my app from a web page simply by using my app specific protocol in the hyperlink.
Does anybody have any experience with this? Am I just paranoid?
fyi: here's the info on URI Associations in WP8
sometimes the simple answer is often overlooked.
Yes, everything is in place to function correctly. It appears to only be a restriction with IE Mobile.
I set up a web page on my server with a link click me and was able to successfully launch my app view IE Mobile on the emulator.
I developed a Windows Phone 8 App. But when I try to add it to the store the option "Associate app to the store" does not show (could not post pics because i´m new here).
The options does not appear when I right click on the project AND it also does not work when I click on the Visual Studio 2012 menu PROJECT > STORE > (the option to associate the app shows as disabled)
Also I tried to add the tag manually on my WMAppManifest.xml file with no avail either. In this particular case, the app wont start in the emulator. It keeps on loading forever.
The current status to my developer account is "need verification" - meaning: I need to wait to the credit card transaction to pop out on my bank to input the secret code. Is that the case? Is that why I cant associate the app and why it does not show on Visual Studio 2012?
That menu is only meant for Windows 8 apps, not Windows Phone 8 apps. You should use http://dev.windowsphone.com for all your windows phone store activities. Again, VS2012 doesn't have any built-in integration with the WP8 store, just the Win8 store.
