expecting colon before rightparen and expecting identifier before if - actionscript-3

Another probably dumb question.
I followed a tutorial (popping game by Richard Parnaby-King).
i got this anoying errors that i cant seems to fix.
the main.as (called test1):
package
{
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
import flash.events.TimerEvent;
import flash.text.TextField;
import flash.text.TextFormat;
import flash.utils.Timer;
[SWF(width='800',height='600',backgroundColor='#FFFFFF',frameRate='25')]
public class Test1 extends MovieClip
{
var icon:FacebookIcon = new FacebookIcon();
var background:BG = new BG();
private var timer:Timer = new Timer(5000,-1);
private var bubbles:Array = [];
private var score:int;
private var textBox:TextField = new TextField;
private var textFormat:TextFormat = new TextFormat(null, 30);
public function Test1(); void
{
if(stage) init();
else addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, init);
}
private function init(Event = null):void
{
removeEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, init);
// entry point
//add start button
icon.addChild(new StartButton());
icon.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, startGame);
icon.buttonMode = true;
icon.x = (stage.stageWidth / 2) - (icon.width / 2);
icon.y = (stage.stageHeight / 2) - (icon.height / 2);
addChild(icon);
textBox.defaultTextFormat = textFormat;
private function startGame(e:MouseEvent):void {
icon.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, startGame);
removeChild(icon);
removeChild(background);
timer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER_COMPLETE, createBubble);
timer.start();
createBubble();
score = 0;
}
I get the errors
1084: Syntax error: expecting identifier before if
and
-1084: Syntax error: expecting colon before rightparen
right where the
if(stage) init();
else addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, init);
What Im doing wrong? tried everything.
thanks a lot

You've got a semi-colon before the return type on your constructor. It should be a colon:
public function Test1(): void
{
if(stage) init();
else addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, init);
}

Adding EventListener to Sprites in other classes does not work in AS3

I have my main class where I add EventLisitener to Sprites in other classes Like so:
public function Main() {
if (stage) init();
else addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, init);
addChild(Menu.menuBackground);
addChild(Menu.startButton);
//Adds event Listener to Menu's Sprite startButton.
Menu.startButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, startGame);
}
private function init(e:Event = null):void {
removeEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, init);
}
This all works Fine and Dandy but later I try to do it again, the same way. But, clicking on the sprites does nothing. Here is the full Main Class code. Along with the code for the other three Sprite classes.
Full Main:

}

Same problem, same answer. Your previous question was answered the same way but you still persist on doing the exact same thing and getting into the exact same problem.
Stop trying to run code in static scope! addChild can't work in that scope and any other type of code.
Not sure why I was voted down. There's not much to answer here since the same problem with the same user was answered in another post.
This is really not difficult, user wants to run code at class definition scope. At class definition scope you can instantiate variable yes but that's all you can do. User wants to run code and logic at that scope and this is just completely ignored by the compiler. This was already pointed out to him in his previous question and he was even given the advice to stop trying to run code at that scope to avoid further problem. This is really simple to understand:
[Embed (source = "lib/menubackground.png")]
public static var menuBackgroundClass:Class;
public static var menuBackground:Bitmap = new menuBackgroundClass();
//instantiation is allowed at that scope and will work
//create startButton Bitmap
[Embed (source = "lib/menustartbutton.png")]
public static var startButtonClass:Class;
public static var startButtonImg:Bitmap = new startButtonClass();
//instantiation is allowed at that scope and will work
public static var startButton:Sprite = new Sprite();
//instantiation is allowed at that scope and will work
//COMPILER WILL IGNORE AT THAT SCOPE ANY CODE THAT IS NOT INSTANTIATION
//SO ALL FOLLOWING LINES ARE IGNORED AND PRODUCE NO RESULT
//EVEN TRACING WOULD NOT WORK HERE
// (Main.gameWidth / 2) WILL NOT BE CALCULATED AND DOES NOT PRODUCE ANY VALUE
// startButton.x WILL NOT BE SET AND WILL STAY AT DEFAULT VALUE 0
// FINALLY startButton WILL NOT addChild ANYTHING.
//ANY FORM OF CODE LOGIC IS IGNORED AT THAT SCOPE AND WILL NEVER PRODUCE ANY RESULT
startButton.addChild(startButtonImg);
startButton.x = (Main.gameWidth / 2) - (startButtonImg.width / 2);
startButton.y = (Main.gameHeight / 2) - (startButtonImg.height / 2);

as3 hitTestPoint detecting alpha

I am trying to make maze where the user draws with mouse and if they hit the wall it erases the line they just drew. I have a png file with alpha that creates the walls of the maze.
I need the user to draw on the alpha but when they hit a non alpha it will trigger an action and erase the line.
Here is the line I am having issues with:
if (myshape.hitTestPoint(theBall.x,theBall.y, true))
Here is the full code:
package
{
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
import flash.display.DisplayObject;
import flash.display.Graphics;
import flash.display.JointStyle;
import flash.display.LineScaleMode;
import flash.display.Shape;
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.*;
public class MazeClass extends Sprite
{
//Are we drawing or not?
private var drawing:Boolean;
public var myshape:Shape;
public var alreadyDrawn:Shape;
public var theBall:Ball = new Ball();
//alreadyDrawn = new Shape();
public function MazeClass()
{
if (stage)
{
myshape = new Shape();
myshape.graphics.lineStyle(12,0x000000);
addChild(myshape);
drawing = false;//to start with
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, startDrawing);
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE, draw);
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, stopDrawing);
//stage.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, checkIt);
addChild(theBall);
}
}
public function startDrawing(event:MouseEvent):void
{
myshape.graphics.moveTo( mouseX, mouseY);
drawing = true;
}
public function draw(event:MouseEvent)
{
if (drawing)
{
//checkIt();
myshape.graphics.lineTo(mouseX,mouseY);
if (myshape.hitTestPoint(theBall.x,theBall.y, true))
{
trace("Hit A WALL!");
myshape.graphics.clear();
myshape.graphics.lineStyle(12, 0xFFFFFF);
myshape.graphics.moveTo(mouseX,mouseY);
}
}
}
public function stopDrawing(event:MouseEvent)
{
drawing = false;
}
}
}
Another option is to test the colour of the map bitmapdata pixel that corresponds to the "player's position" (the end of the drawn line, in this case):
var testPixel:uint = _myBitmapData.getPixel(xPosition, yPosition);
Or you can use .getPixel32 which includes alpha in the returned uint.
I FOUND A WORKING SOLUTION:
I found a working solution thanks to fsbmain. Thank you. I am posting my full code in hopes that this can help someone else.
In the end I had to use another movieClip rather than the mouse, but this worked for me. Now instead of drawing anywhere in the maze they have to drag a little character named Beau thru the maze. This works better for me.
It would be nice to know how to also detect if the mouse or the actual line I am drawing hit the wall as well. Maybe someone can make a suggestion. Nevertheless, thanks for helping me get this far.
The short and essential code to make my movieClip detect the alpha can be found here. It really is very short compared to other complicated options I found. Here is the link: http://www.mikechambers.com/blog/2009/06/24/using-bitmapdata-hittest-for-collision-detection/

TypeError 1009 AS3

I have looked through this code over and over and over but just cant seem to find where the problem is rooted. Here is the error message:
"TypeError: Error #1009:

"
It's certainly not in the KeyObject class since that's downloaded and not changed in any(and has worked before), but here's that snippet of code anyway(notice the markers where the lines are):
dynamic public class KeyObject extends Proxy {
private static var stage:Stage;
private static var keysDown:Object;
public function KeyObject(stage:Stage) {
construct(stage); <---------------------------------------------LINE 23
}
public function construct(stage:Stage):void {
KeyObject.stage = stage;
keysDown = new Object();
stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, keyPressed); <--- LINE 29
stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_UP, keyReleased);
}
Here are the parts of code that's causing the error:
package com.asgamer.basics1
{
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.display.Stage;
import com.senocular.utils.KeyObject;
import flash.ui.Keyboard;
import flash.events.Event;
public class Ship extends MovieClip
{
private var stageRef:Stage;
private var key:KeyObject;
private var speed:Number = 0.5;
private var vx:Number = 0;
private var vy:Number = 0;
private var friction:Number = 0.93;
private var maxspeed:Number = 8;
public function Ship(stageRef:Stage)
{
this.stageRef = stageRef;
key = new KeyObject(stageRef); <----------------------------- LINE 24
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, loop, false, 0, true);
}
and here's the engine class:
package com.asgamer.basics1
{
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.display.Stage;
import flash.events.Event;
public class Engine extends MovieClip
{
private var numStars:int = 80;
private var enemyList:Array = new Array();
private var ourShip:Ship;
public function Engine() : void
{
ourShip = new Ship(stage); <------------------------------- LINE 17
ourShip.x = stage.stageWidth / 2;
ourShip.y = stage.stageHeight / 2;
stage.addChild(ourShip);
for (var i:int = 0; i < numStars; i++)
{
stage.addChildAt(new Star(stage), stage.getChildIndex(ourShip));
}
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, loop, false, 0, true);
I would really, really appreciate if someone would answer since this project is crucial to my final grades!
Instance of the Engine class is being constructed at the moment, when the stage property is still null. This means that the Engine class instance hasn't been added to the display list yet.

Remove Child of Root actionscript3

I've created 4 instances of Notes and I have them moving to the right until their x value is greater than 100. Once they're there, how do I remove them? I ran a trace statement and confirmed that the parent of these instances is root (root1 to be exact). If I type
root.removeChild(this);
I get an error saying "call to a possibly undefined method removeChild"
If I type
removeChild(this);
I get an error saying "The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller". Full code is posted below. The last line before the }'s at the end is the problem line. Thanks so much for the help!

}
}
}
}
Try using this in the loop function
e.target.parent.removeChild(e.target);
//or
stage.removeChild(e.target);
You're adding the notes to stage. So you need to remove them from stage.
stage.removeChild( note );
You can only remove a child from its parent, not from any other container. So calling removeChild on a different container will always fail

How to call one of the function from this class?

I wanna call the function "nextMenu" & "prevMenu" from this class from Main.as

I've inserted the code below in my Main.as to call the function which I can't get it success.
import com.theflashfactor.carouselStackGallery.categoryMenu.CategoryScroller;
private var categoryScroller:CategoryScroller = new CategoryScroller();
categoryScroller.nextMenu();

As defined:

Shouldn't the class constructor be expecting an argument??
private var categoryScroller:CategoryScroller = new CategoryScroller();
