sum(amount) from three tables returning null - mysql

I am having following tables
create table supplier_paid_details(
id bigint(10) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
payment_mode varchar(20),
payment_date date,
add_date timestamp DEFAULT 0,
status varchar(20),
supp_payment_id bigint(10) NOT NULL,
primary Key(id),
CONSTRAINT fk_paid FOREIGN KEY (supp_payment_id)
REFERENCES supplier_payment_details(id)
);
create table supplier_paid_check(
id bigint(10) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
check_no bigint(10) NOT NULL,
dated date,
payable_at varchar(50),
paid_to_acc_no varchar(30),
paid_to_bank varchar(30),
paid_to_branch varchar(30),
spd_id bigint(10),
add_date timestamp DEFAULT 0,
amount float(10,2),
status varchar(20),
primary Key(id),
CONSTRAINT fk_ckeck FOREIGN KEY (spd_id)
REFERENCES supplier_payment_details(id)
);
create table supplier_paid_online(
id bigint(10) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
pay_ref_no varchar(50),
paid_from_bank varchar(50),
from_acc_no varchar(50),
paid_to_acc_no varchar(30),
paid_to_bank varchar(30),
paid_to_branch varchar(30),
spd_id bigint(10),
add_date timestamp DEFAULT 0,
amount float(10,2),
status varchar(20),
primary Key(id),
CONSTRAINT fk_online FOREIGN KEY (spd_id)
REFERENCES supplier_paid_details(id)
);
create table supplier_paid_cash(
id bigint(10) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
to_person varchar(40),
designation varchar(40),
receipt_no varchar(30),
spd_id bigint(10),
add_date timestamp DEFAULT 0,
amount float(10,2),
status varchar(20),
primary Key(id),
CONSTRAINT fk_cash FOREIGN KEY (spd_id)
REFERENCES supplier_paid_details(id)
);
Here I would like to sum amounts from supplier_paid_check,supplier_paid_cash,supplier_paid_online.
for that I am using following query but this is showing null.
select sum(ca.amount+ch.amount+onl.amount) as amount from
supplier_paid_details as pd
left join supplier_paid_cash as ca
on pd.id=ca.spd_id
left join supplier_paid_check as ch
on pd.id=ch.spd_id
left join supplier_paid_online as onl
on pd.id=onl.spd_id
where pd.supp_payment_id=1;

I suppose there is at least one row in one of your three tables where amount has a NULL value. This leads to NULL as result in the end as the DBMS could not determine how to handle this value in combination with the other. But there is a way out: you could tell your DBMS what to do with NULL values. Use IFNULL.
select
sum(IFNULL(ca.amount, 0) + IFNULL(ch.amount, 0) + IFNULL(onl.amount, 0)) as amount
from
supplier_paid_details as pd left join supplier_paid_cash as ca on pd.id=ca.spd_id
left join supplier_paid_check as ch on pd.id=ch.spd_id
left join supplier_paid_online as onl on pd.id=onl.spd_id
where
pd.supp_payment_id=1;
Read more on IFNULL at MySQL Docs.

Try this:
select sum(
coalesce(ca.amount, 0)
+ coalesce(ch.amount, 0)
+ coalesce(onl.amount, 0)
) as amount from
....
or this:
select sum(ca.amount) + sum(ch.amount) + sum(onl.amount) as amount from
....

How to write mysql query, where i need to put order by before group by

//I know that there are questions like this before, but I can't get this to work
So, I have 3 tables, seats(id, type_id, hall_id), seat_types(id(PK), type_name) and taken_seats(screening_id(PK), seat_id(PK), type_id).
I need to write a query where I pass a screening ID and hall ID, and get back seat_id,type_name, and isTaken (if seat is taken or not).
The problem I have is that I have a query that return a duplicate if I do ORDER BY, but if I do GROUP BY I don't get correct data back because I didn't ordered it.
My query:
USE cinema_app;
SELECT
seats.id,
seat_types.type_name,
taken_seats.screening_id,
CASE
WHEN taken_seats.screening_id = 3 THEN 'ATaken'
ELSE 'Not taken'
END AS isTaken
FROM seats
JOIN seat_types ON seats.type_id = seat_types.id
LEFT JOIN taken_seats ON taken_seats.seat_id = seats.id
WHERE seats.hall_id = 2
ORDER BY seats.id, isTaken;
Table I'm getting back:

Also I tried writing a subquery but I didn't succeed in that.
Why do you join all taken seats for all screenings when you are only interested in screening 3? Make sure you join the taken seats for the screening in question.
SET #hall_id = 2;
SET #screening_id = 3;
SELECT
s.id AS seat_id,
st.type_name AS seat_type,
#screening_id AS screening_id,
CASE WHEN ts.screening_id IS NOT NULL
THEN 'Taken'
ELSE 'Not taken'
END AS is_taken
FROM seats s
JOIN seat_types st ON seats.type_id = seat_types.id
LEFT JOIN taken_seats ts ON ts.seat_id = s.id AND ts.screening_id = #screening_id
WHERE s.hall_id = #hall_id
ORDER BY s.id;
You could try joining the table as sql expressions
SELECT * FROM table1
LEFT JOIN (
SELECT * FROM another ORDER BY something
) as table2
ON table1.id = table2.id
GROUP BY something
Not sure if that structure is correct but that's what I would do.

Didnt display results in database

I have a little problem with one database. I have already entered data in the individual tables in the database. The problem is that with this code, it displays the column names, but didnt return rows. I can't find the error. I think the problem is in JOIN itself. Any ideas for solving the problem?
SELECT cars.brand,
cars.model,
cars.yearofproduction,
cars.engine_type,
parts.part_name,
parts.price AS MONEY,
parts.quantity
FROM CATALOG
JOIN parts
ON parts.part_name = parts.id
JOIN cars
ON CATALOG.car_id = cars.id
WHERE quantity >= '0'
HAVING MONEY < (
SELECT AVG(price)
FROM cars
);
And here the tables. I've already insert values in the tables.
CREATE TABLE CATALOG.parts
(
id INT AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY,
part_name VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL,
price DECIMAL NOT NULL,
DESCRIPTION VARCHAR(255) DEFAULT NULL,
quantity TINYINT DEFAULT 0
);
CREATE TABLE CATALOG.cars
(
id INT AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY,
brand VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL,
model VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL,
yearofproduction YEAR NOT NULL,
engine_type SET('Diesel', 'A95', 'Gas', 'Metan')
);
CREATE TABLE CATALOG.catalog
(
part_id INT NOT NULL,
CONSTRAINT FOREIGN KEY(part_id) REFERENCES parts(id)
ON DELETE RESTRICT ON UPDATE CASCADE,
car_id INT NOT NULL,
CONSTRAINT FOREIGN KEY(car_id) REFERENCES cars(id)
ON DELETE RESTRICT ON UPDATE CASCADE,
PRIMARY KEY(part_id, car_id)
);

sql JOIN cause double rows

I have two tables that i need to join them
first table i created using this sql query
CREATE TABLE `users` (
`id` bigint PRIMARY KEY AUTO_INCREMENT,
`user_login` varchar(60),
`user_pass` varchar(255),
`first_name` varchar(30),
`last_name` varchar(30),
`user_status` int(2),
`user_phone_number` varchar(20),
`user_email` varchar(100),
`user_billing_info` text,
`user_temp_units` int(2),
`user_flow_units` int(2),
`user_notes` text
);
second table
CREATE TABLE `station_meta` (
`uid` VARCHAR(25) PRIMARY KEY,
`nickname` varchar(30),
`install_date` date,
`latatude` numeric(10,6),
`longitude` numeric(10,6),
`firmware_ver` varchar(10),
`weir_type` int(2),
`weir_width` numeric,
`dist_to_ground` numeric,
`dist_to_weir` numeric,
`service_fee` numeric,
`notes` text
);
i got double rows when i use this sql query
SELECT * FROM station_meta JOIN users
note: uid is something like 9C9Z454Z5CA in case it need to mention it
so there's not any column that is the same in the other table
UPDATE
Data sample
My results
I'm using it in php function in foreach, so i got double results
Appreciate any help
seems you miss a relation between the two tables ..
if you want avoid cartesian product and retrieve just a matching value between the two table you should add a relation as
table user_station_meta (
`id` bigint PRIMARY KEY AUTO_INCREMENT,
user_id bigint
station_meta_uid VARCHAR(25)
)
once you have inserted the matching values
uid, id
9c2748.. 1
BC8CD4.. 5
you can select single matching result as
select u.*. s.*
from user_station_meta us
JOIN station_meta s on s.uid = us.uid
JOIN users u on u.id = us.id

Correct SQL Multiply across tables

I am at the end of my rope. I am learning SQL for a class. I have tried to get something akin to the to work, but to no avail. Can someone take a look at it.
Keep in mind that I'm new to this. I am trying to get the code to make subtotal equal the sum of column qty multiplied by the sum of column donutPrice in the donut table. I can't find much except for joins and if I do that, I can't use the join as a value.
The ultimate goal is to make it kinda automated.
CREATE TABLE donut
(
donutID int(50) not null auto_increment primary key,
donutName varchar(50) not null,
donutDesc varchar(200),
donutPrice dec(8,2)
);
CREATE TABLE customer
(
customerID int(50) not null auto_increment primary key,
fname char(50) not null,
lname char(50) not null,
address varchar(50) not null,
apartment varchar(10),
city char(50) not null,
state char(2) not null,
zip dec(5) not null,
homeph varchar(10),
mobileph varchar(10),
otherph varchar(10)
);
CREATE TABLE invoice
(
orderID int(50) not null auto_increment primary key,
notes varchar(50) not null,
orderdate date not null,
customerID int(50) not null default 1,
foreign key (customerID) references customer(customerID)
);
CREATE TABLE invoice_line_item
(
donutID int(50) not null,
orderID int(50) not null,
qty dec not null,
subtotal dec(10,2),
subtotal= sum('qty'*'donutPrice') FROM (invoice_line_item, donut),
primary key (donutID, orderID),
foreign key(donutID) references donut(donutID),
foreign key(orderID) references invoice(orderID)
);
ALTER TABLE donut AUTO_INCREMENT=1;
ALTER TABLE customer AUTO_INCREMENT=1001;
ALTER TABLE invoice AUTO_INCREMENT=500;
I guess you want a result looking like this:
OrderID subtotal
1 12.50
2 15.00
27.50
You get that with a query like this:
SELECT invoice.orderID, SUM(invoice_line_item.qty * donut.donutPrice) subtotal
FROM invoice
JOIN invoice_line_item ON invoice.orderID = invoice_line_item.orderID
JOIN donut ON invoice_line_item.donutID = donut.donutID
GROUP BY invoice.orderID WITH ROLLUP
Did you cover entity-relationship data in your class? Your entities are invoice, invoice_line_item, and donut (and your other tables). The relationships between them appear in the ON clauses of the JOIN operations.
Start with a query, and get it working. Then you can create a view ... which is nothing more or less than an encapsulated query.

How do I extract results after joining multiple tables in the following schema?

I've used the following commands for creating the tables.
CREATE TABLE Customer(
custid int NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
fname varchar(30) NOT NULL,
lname varchar(30) NOT NULL,
mno varchar(10),
password varchar(30),
PRIMARY KEY (custid)
);
CREATE TABLE Employee(
empid int NOT NULL,
fname varchar(30) NOT NULL,
lname varchar(30) NOT NULL,
mno varchar(10),
password varchar(30),
PRIMARY KEY (empid)
);
CREATE TABLE Address(
id int NOT NULL,
street varchar(30),
doorno varchar(30),
city varchar(30),
statee varchar(30),
zip varchar(5),
county varchar(30) NOT NULL,
PRIMARY KEY (id),
FOREIGN KEY (id) REFERENCES Customer (custid)
);
CREATE TABLE EmpAddress(
id int NOT NULL,
street varchar(30),
doorno varchar(30),
city varchar(30),
statee varchar(30),
zip varchar(5),
county varchar(30) NOT NULL,
PRIMARY KEY (id),
FOREIGN KEY (id) REFERENCES Employee (empid)
);
CREATE TABLE Service(
serviceid int NOT NULL,
serviceType varchar(30),
amount int,
PRIMARY KEY (serviceid)
);
CREATE TABLE Booking(
bookingid int NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
empid int NOT NULL,
custid int NOT NULL,
serviceid int NOT NULL,
PRIMARY KEY (bookingid),
FOREIGN KEY (empid) REFERENCES Employee (empid),
FOREIGN KEY (custid) REFERENCES Customer (custid),
FOREIGN KEY (serviceid) REFERENCES Service (serviceid)
);
CREATE TABLE Availability(
empid int NOT NULL,
datee date NOT NULL,
startTime int NOT NULL,
PRIMARY KEY (empid, datee, startTime),
FOREIGN KEY (empid) REFERENCES Employee (empid)
);
CREATE TABLE Transactions(
bookingid int NOT NULL,
paymentMethod varchar(20),
serviceid int,
amount int,
PRIMARY KEY (bookingid),
FOREIGN KEY (bookingid) REFERENCES Booking (bookingid),
FOREIGN KEY (serviceid) REFERENCES Service (serviceid)
);
I am trying to write a query that returns the bookingid, firstName, lastName, street, door no, zip code, serviceType, date and startTime GIVEN empid.
It is essentially a join of 5 tables and I'd implemented the query as:
SELECT B.bookingid, C.fname, C.lname, AD.street,
AD.doorno, AD.zip,S.serviceType, A.datee, A.startTime
FROM booking as B, availability as A, customer as C,
address as AD, Service as S
WHERE
B.empid=501 AND B.custid=C.custid
AND C.custid=AD.id
AND B.serviceid=S.serviceid AND B.empid=A.empid;
The REQUIRED results should have been:
BookingID fname lname street doorno zipcode serviceType date starttime
1 X Y ABC 33 5335 Clean 2015-05-20 9
2 P Q NMO 55 8294 Shift 2015-06-11 11
But the results give me the cross product of tables:
BookingID fname lname street doorno zipcode serviceType date starttime
1 X Y ABC 33 5335 Clean 2015-05-20 9
1 X Y ABC 33 5335 Shift 2015-06-11 11
2 P Q NMO 55 8294 Clean 2015-05-20 9
2 P Q NMO 55 8294 Shift 2015-06-11 11
Please let me know what is wrong with my query.
The primary key for Availability is currently (empid, datee, startTime), yet the JOIN is done on just on Booking.empid - it is possible there is more than one availability row per Employee.
I believe you will need to add a timestamp to Booking and interpolate on date during the join to Availability:
CREATE TABLE Booking(
-- ...
bookingDate datetime NOT NULL,
-- ...
);
I would also suggest that you add and end datetime bounds to the Availability, and store Date and Time as one (otherwise you will need to continually add the time back in):
CREATE TABLE Availability(
-- ...
startDateTime datetime NOT NULL,
endDateTime datetime NOT NULL,
PRIMARY KEY (empid, startDateTime), -- Put some rules to prevent overlap
);
The query then interpolates Booking to Availability on Date and Time:
SELECT B.bookingid, C.fname, C.lname, AD.street, AD.doorno, AD.zip,
S.serviceType, A.startDateTime
FROM
booking as B
INNER JOIN customer as C
ON B.custid=C.custid
INNER JOIN availability as A
ON B.empid=A.empid AND b.bookingDate BETWEEN A.startDateTime AND A.endDateTime
INNER JOIN address as AD
ON C.custid=AD.id
INNER JOIN Service as S
ON B.serviceid=S.serviceid
WHERE
B.empid=501;
I've also adjusted the join to use JOIN ON rather than doing the join in the WHERE.
This would address the duplicated availability data. However, I can't see how ServiceType would be different for the same booking.
You can use DISTINCT to eliminate duplicate records. Also always try to use explicit joins.
SELECT DISTINCT B.bookingid, C.fname, C.lname, AD.street,
AD.doorno, AD.zip,S.serviceType, A.datee, A.startTime
FROM booking as B
INNER JOIN availability as A ON B.empid = A.empid
INNER JOIN customer as C ON B.custid = C.custid
INNER JOIN address as AD ON C.custid = AD.id
INNER JOIN Service as S ON B.serviceid = S.serviceid
WHERE B.empid = 501
