Actually I'm new to web designing and I'm going to make my own social network and I'm using the amazing layout of Angelsmood.com music social network.
Everything is OK with designing except that I can't place the "Sign Up" button on the right place; it has a lot of margin on its right side. The problem is that there's no margin in my CSS code. Here's my code:
<div id="header_register">
Sign Up
<div>
Artists and their true fans are human angels.
Find them, connect with them and become one of them.
</div>
</div>
And Here's the CSS:
#header_register {
position: relative;
font-size: 12px;
}
#header_register a {
display: block;
height: 30px;
line-height: 30px;
background: ##810101;
color: #fff;
font-weight: bold;
font-size: 14px;
float: left;
text-decoration: none;
border: 1px #508F54 solid;
}
Please help me to fix this.
I made a fiddle and tried to fix your problem the best I could based on the information you gave us.
jsfiddle
Things I did... took your line-height out and moved the link after the div so you didn't have to use it... then I margin: 0 auto to center the <a> tag.
Instead of float: left;
I took it out added a width of the <a> tag so it did not span the width of the screen.
If you need this to function in a different way that I have illustrated ask and I will show you on the fiddle I posted.

I have been struggling to find answers as to why this does this so I'd figured I'd post it here to see if anyone else knows this happens and if there is an explaination. Or maybe it is just a CSS/HTML bug I am unaware of.
I created the following jsfiddle for an example.
#import url('https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Playfair+Display:400,700,900');
body {
background-color: #20262e;
height: 100%;
margin: 0px;
padding: 0px;
}
.title {
margin-bottom: 0 !important;
padding-right: 100px;
color: #ffffff;
font-size: 50px;
font-family: 'Playfair Display', serif;
font-style: normal;
font-weight: 700;
text-transform: uppercase;
line-height: 1;
position: relative;
display: inline-block;
}
.title::after {
background-color: #f5a800;
width: 80px;
height: 4px;
content: '';
position: absolute;
top: 50%;
right: 0px;
}
<div class="container">
<h1 class="title">
This Is An Awesome Title
</h1>
</div>
Simple effect and works great as long as the H1 is one line. However, once you resize the screen and the H1 breaks to 2 lines, it seems that the behavior of the H1 changes? inline-block->block? If you inspect the H1 in devtools, it goes from having its "space" go from wrapping the text to full width when it breaks and the pseudo element is then pushed way out to the right of the screen instead of the right side of the text like it is when it is on one line.
I am all out of ideas on hacks around this, I've tried floats and flex to no avail.
Open to any suggestions on how to accomplish this, or maybe its a lost cause and I am stuck with changing font sizes and padding using media queries.
Thanks.
EDIT
Here are a few screenshots to further clarify what I am asking:
Text on one line: https://screencast.com/t/W83PxIck
Text when it breaks to two lines: https://screencast.com/t/Lx8xjHkrWx
Nope, that's the expected behavior. It is still inline-block. The right side of the block is the rightmost side of the text, not the right side of the final line.
If you're looking to place it immediately after the final line, you need to use display: inline, not inline-block.
You can view the boxes by using dev tools, which will clearly show you where they begin and end.
I would like to adjust the CSS code for the Fiore theme on Wordpress. My URL is theuniversalasian.wordpress.com. It is an upgraded premium wordpress account.
With the upgrade, I am able to edit the CSS, but a number of problems are happening. If you could help me with the code, I'd appreciate it!
I want to make a white background for the post texts. When I do that, it moves the date, comments, edit links on the left side. I would like those to stay up top near the post title ribbon. At the moment, the site does not show the changes I wanted because I keep fiddling with the code....
If possible, I'd like the white background for the text to have rounded corners....
The left column somehow loses the graphics....There should be a top cherry blossom graphic like the original theme (http://fioredemo.wordpress.com/), along with the rest of the ribbon image for the post titles.
I cannot paste the entire code here..., but hopefully you will know what I mean from the site...
For the first two, I'll work on the last now, you needed to locate the .entry-content class in your css file.
The first style I added was the background: #fff; which added the white background and then I added border-radius: 7px; which gives it rounded corners.
.entry-content {
color: #2b2b2b; /* changed to black font since you wanted a white background */
width: 300px;
padding: 10px;
border: 0 solid #000;
margin-left: 10%;
margin-bottom: 10px;
margin-top: 10px;
background: #fff;
border-radius: 7px;
}
For the third question, I am not 100% positive but since you removed the nav on your site I believe you removed the image as well. For some reason on the template page I can not find any styles when you inspect an element. The image is apart of the nav/header area so this is just my best guess.
EDIT: Moving the comment/date block around.
.entry-meta {
color: #333;
font-size: 12px;
font-size: 1.2rem;
letter-spacing: 1px;
position: absolute;
text-align: right;
text-transform: uppercase;
width: 150px;
top: 0;
left: 35%;
}
I am trying to put two divs beside each other and have it so when you hover over an image some text is displayed. This is my CSS:
.german img, chembond img {
height: 100;
width: 100;
padding: 2px 2px 1px 2px;
}
.german img:hover, chembond img:hover {
border: 1px solid #2e8ece;
border-radius: 10px 10px 10px 10px;
}
.german-content, .chembond-content {
display: none;
}
.german:hover .german-content {
display: block;
float: left;
border: 1px solid;
}
.chembond:hover .chembond-content {
display: block;
float: right;
border: 1px solid;
}
.german-content p, .chembond-content p {
font-size: 15px;
font-weight: normal;
line-height: 30px;
word-spacing: 5px;
color: black;
}
.chembond {
float: right;
}
.german {
float: left;
}
.german, .chembond {
display: inline;
overflow: hidden;
}
And this is my HTML:
<section id="projects-content">
<p>Projects</p>
<section class="german">
<img src="assets/img/german.png" height="60" width="50" />
<section class="german-content">
<p>I started this project because I have seen many students in my German class keep on getting the tenses wrong by putting verbs in the wrong places, missunderstanding past participles etc... so I started this to help students (or anyone) understand the sometimes confusing German tenses. Each tense page consistes of three sub-sections: a question, an answer and a statement. These then in turn include an example and an explanation. If you were to hover over some of the words then a popup box will appear, explaining the use of the word. You can see it here (please bare in mind that this is still a work in progress). If you want to email me a tip about it, or just ask me about it then don't hesitate to contact me.</p>

This is what it currently does: http://www.penguinie.co.uk/#projects
Also, Is there an easier way to do what I'm trying to do? (which is to put both of the images side by side and have them stay side by side when I hover over them and the text appears).
Use display:inline-block; instead of display:block; on the divs.
Using display:inline-block you can still assign width to an element, unlike display:inline. Block level elements will always take a new row.
However, you might notice that there's space in between:
If needed, this can be easily fixed by applying this to the parent element: font-size:0;.
Here's a fiddle about it.
In general, I use #Christian's inline-block solution.
But another possibility is using float: left.
Remember to clear the floating (e.g., with <div style="clear:both"></div>) after your floating elements.
Alrighty so I am attempting to create a header for a website I'm making, but I'm having a bit of trouble with padding some links out for my top level nav.
Basically what's happening is, if I have a long link name, it overlaps with another link.
I think this is something to do with the width but I'm not sure how I can fix it. I also really don't want to create a fixed width for the links, as I am wanting to make each text in the links 60px away from the previous.
HTML:
<nav id="top_navigation">
Home
Example1
Longtextjustbecause
Testpage3thingy
</nav>
CSS:
#top_navigation a {
display: inline-block;
height: 60px;
color: #3b3b3b;
font-family: Hero;
font-size: 26px;
text-decoration: none;
line-height: 60px;
padding: 0px 30px; }
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!
Yeah so it turned out to be the font that I was using for some reason. It doesn't appear to like padding in any circumstance very much.
I am currently finishing a site that the client wants to work on all browsers. However, there seems to be a CSS issue which I can not get around. The border around this page seems to start from the middle of the page, as opposed to surrounding the entire page. It works on all other browsers though. I am guessing that it is a float problem, but the #contact-form underneath has basically the same CSS applied to it but the border still surrounds it, while the #info seems to have broken out of the border.
The webpage in question is http://lunaskymoda.co.uk/contact-us/
The only validation error is with an unregistered keyword "Nextgen", but i doubt that is the problem. I have spent an entire day tackling this and cannot seem to come up with a reasonable explanation as to why this is happening.
the CSS for the possible HTML elements producing the error are:
#main #main-content {
border: 1px solid white;
display: block;
margin: 12px 0;
background: black;
}
.contact #main-content .info {
margin: 10px;
width: 300px;
font-size: 14px;
color: white;
float: right;
display: block;
}
You're not the first one to have issues with ie6 :)
The problem is of course the "clear: both" of the clear class not being honoured, so you need to hack it.
Here's a possible approach:
http://damienhowley.wordpress.com/2009/04/01/ie6-hack-replacing-clearboth/
You may also try to replace the <div class="clear"></div> by <br clear="all">.
