So I have a windows phone bought from service provider A, that I want to use to develop an app for service provider B. now the problem (I believe) is that service provider A has preloaded info on the windows phone under the extras+info -> additional info (like hardcoded a value). So what happens is although I put a SIM from service provider B into the phone it still gets detected that the device belongs to service provider A.
Now my question is, can I somehow overwrite that info on the phone using my app, or is it even possible to change that info, could it maybe be another setting or something on the phone that I am not aware of.
I strongly believe this is not possible without OEM capabilities.

I have a WP 7.1 app in the marketplace, but some features crash in WP 8.
I don't use VS 2010 anymore and would like to take the opportunity to create a WP8 version of the app.
Imagine that I have a user that runs my 7.1 app on his Windows Phone 8 and that he has already saved data to isolated storage. Will he see the WP 8 version of my app as an upate? Will he lose data already stored in Isolated Storage?
No, the user will not lose data in the isolated storage as long as it's an update to the existing app. Make sure you don't replace the old xap, add a new one for WP8 instead.
This is my app that have got both WP7.1 and WP8 xaps. You should see something similar in your dashboard once you uploaded your WP8 version.

If not then what all modifications would be needed for the same. I have an app written for Windows Phone 8 and have to port it for Windows Surface RT. What all are the key points to look for and if possible any documentations pointing to the same.
No, you can not directly port. If you have used MVVM pattern then you can reuse you MODEL and VIEMODEL. You have to modify VIEW only. For more information on MVVM you can look at the MSDN Documentation
No Windows Phone apps cannot run directly on any other device other than windows phone.
That said, MOST of the code can be reused.
Look into Portable class libraries (PCL).
These libraries allow you to write code that is reusable across multiple platforms.

I want to create a website that has a map that will track my phone's location. I'm not asking for specifics here. Just is it possible to do without creating my own app on my phone and using the Google Maps API or is there a lot more that I need?
You'd need two apps:
A server application that listens to the phone and displays the phone's location
An app on your phone that reports the geolocation to the server
Both should be fairly trivial, but it does mean you'll have to have the server application hosted somewhere. You can't just "pull up" the phone's location remotely - that would be a massive security hole. Imagine if a stalker got a hold of that...

What is the name where the application shows messages of any updates available whenever the update is available?
Is it called web service?
For example, I have installed an antivirus (avast); sometimes a small popup message shows that an update is available.
I have very vague idea about it, it must be contacting the server periodically for checking the new updates are available or not.
I do not know what the application name is so I was not able to search.
It's called an auto-update software feature. It's part of the software itself usually - If you'd like to look at some API's regarding implementing them into your application, find out more here. WinSparkle is also something you could look into if your doing Windows development.
Those are vendor dependant solutions. It is usually not a separate software checking for updates. All they do is query a web service that replies with the 'current' version. At least as long as talking about MS-Windows. More elegant and efficient solutions exist in the Linux environment.

I have writen an app for the computer in java, but i don't want to give it out for free. I only want to charge somewhere between $0.99 - $2.99, is there a website that i can upload it to, to do this for me. I am looking for something like the apple app store, or the android market, but for the computer. Does this exist?
A quick google search came up with this. Allmyapps is a place where you can buy and sell applications (Windows only, as far as I can see), and it also seems that it can manage the installation process (for example, combining the installation of several apps into one, thus making system rebuilding very easy).
Check out their terms of service for developers here. As I can see, you can sign up for free, and keep 80% of sales revenues.
This question should be moved to Programmers.SE, but the only PC "app store" I'm aware of is Intel's AppUp.
