I have this code: http://jsfiddle.net/5qLDz/ inside which I want to have images vertically aligned to bottom of the container (with some padding from container itself). It doesn't work even with li having display: table-cell and both li and img having vertical-align:bottom set. What can it be?
Please stop posting solutions using position: absolute. As you can see in my code, I used text-align: center which is important there.
One simple fix is to set the line-height to be the same as the container height:
ul.thumbnails li {
box-sizing: border-box;
text-align: center;
background: grey;
padding-bottom: 22px;
height: 222px;
line-height: 222px;
display: table-cell;
}
ul.thumbnails li img {
border-radius: 5px;
bottom: 22px;
vertical-align: bottom;
}
That seems to work, http://jsfiddle.net/audetwebdesign/5qLDz/20/
You only need to declare vertical-align: bottom on the img rule.
However, if you add other elements like captions or social media links this could affect how you implement the solution.
For the love of god don't use display:table-cell just to vertically align something. Just using relative positioning will also do this far more easily: forked Fiddle.
Only changed the parent to position:relative and the child to position:absolute.
Update your CSS:
div.left section.box ul.thumbnails {
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
}
ul.thumbnails li {
text-align: center;
background: grey;
height: 222px;
position:relative;
}
ul.thumbnails li img {
border-radius: 5px;
bottom: 22px;
position:absolute;
}

How do you center an image with text inside a block?
I know you can center a block inside another block by giving the latter a fixed width and margin: auto. However, I don't know the dimensions of text beforehand (actual text content may vary).
The CSS I have got so far:
.outer {
width: 400px;
}
.outer table {
border: 0;
width: 100%;
}
.outer table td {
vertical-align: middle;
text-align: center;
}
.outer table td p {
text-align: left;
}
Please take a look at this DEMO
Here is my css:
.block {
text-align: center;
}
.block:before {
content: '';
display: inline-block;
height: 100%;
vertical-align: middle;
margin-right: -0.25em; /* Adjusts for spacing */
}
.centered {
display: inline-block;
vertical-align: middle;
}
.left {
float: left;
}
Explanation about :before element:
This is an invisible element pseudo element, which is used for better vertical centering: it emulates a 0-sized inline-block element, which, in conjunction with normal inline-block element (.centered) allows us to use vertical-align.
UPDATE:
You can set height to .block to see how it will be centered vertically:
http://jsfiddle.net/jb5EJ/5/
UPDATE 2: Is this closer: http://jsfiddle.net/jb5EJ/13/
Checkout this link. I hope you will get the solution.
http://coding.smashingmagazine.com/2013/08/09/absolute-horizontal-vertical-centering-css/
TLDR: with only this CSS you can position an element in absolute center (both horizontally and vertically):
.Absolute-Center {
margin: auto;
position: absolute;
top: 0; left: 0; bottom: 0; right: 0;
}
Add vertical-align:middle; to img too....also, i would suggest to add height to outer class
<img src="some_src" style="vertical-align:middle;" /> I have some text too

I am having an issue with positioning text inside a div. I want the image on the right top corner (which I was able to do) and the text kind of center the bottom text in the box.
This is an example of what I want to do: http://jsfiddle.net/Lucky500/Nq769/
I created a div .bottom_box and added:
.bottom_box {
position: relative;
bottom: -50px;
left: 50px;
}
Is there an easier or more correct way to do this?
Alright -
Added text-align:center to your and elements.
Set your outer_box position to relative.
Set the img value to absolute and positioned with 0.25 em top and right instead of margin.
http://jsfiddle.net/mr_mayers/Nq769/2/
.outer_box {
border: solid #6ac5ac 3px;
display: inline-block;
width: 250px;
height: 200px;
margin: .5em;
Position: relative;
}
.bottom_box {
position: relative;
bottom: -50px;
}
p {
color: blue;
text-align: center;
}
img {
position: absolute;
padding: 3px;
top: 0.25em;
right: 0.25em;
}
h1 {
text-align: center;
color: red;
}
You can achieve your layout as follows:
For this HTML:
<div class="outer_box">
<img src="http://placehold.it/100x50">
<div class="bottom_box">
<h1>$25 OFF</h1>
<p>$25 off your first cleaning!</p>
</div>
</div>
Try the following CSS:
.outer_box {
border: solid #6ac5ac 3px;
display: inline-block;
width: 250px;
height: 200px;
margin: 0.5em;
}
.bottom_box {
clear: both;
border: 1px dotted gray; /* for demo only, optional */
}
img {
float: right;
padding: 3px;
margin: 0 0 1em 1em;
}
p {
color: blue;
margin-left: 50px;
}
h1 {
color: red;
margin-left: 50px;
}
Since your image is floated, simply clear the .bottom-box.
Use margin-left on the child elements to get any white space.
See sample: http://jsfiddle.net/audetwebdesign/3SjRG/
You can use text-align: center if you are centering the p and h1 content, but I was not sure if you wanted ragged left or ragged right alignment on the text block;
You'd be better off using text-align:center and position: absolute
See example
There are some solutions.
An other way is to make the box relative and positioning the text and image inside absolute.
I would create a container div with a border for your box, then set the inner divs (one with your image and one with your text) to position absolute. then you can use top:0; right:0; for the picture on the right corner. then bottom:xx; and left:yy; for positioning the text div.
This is just a different method than you used. If it works, doesn't break in any situation, and is simple, then it's correct. Many ways to skin a cat in programming.
I have 4 Images, and for some reasons my brain stopped working and i cant figure out why i cant center those.
That's the Fiddle -> http://jsfiddle.net/theminijohn/bcMX5/
If i try to just <center> them i'm getting a Deprecated Html Tag Error in my Editor.
I tried a lot of things, till rewriting the Css and Html Code, but i'm brain stuck here.
Could some Gentleman help brake my blockade ? :)
Here is one way of doing it.
Add a wrapper block element around your div's and then apply the following CSS:
.wrap {
border: 1px solid blue;
overflow: auto;
text-align: center;
}
/* Center 4 Blocks */
.hd_b {
font-size: 13px;
font-weight: normal;
margin-top: 10px;
display: block;
text-decoration: none;
}
._hd {
margin-right: 20px;
display: inline-block;
text-align: center;
}
._hd:last-child {
margin-right: 0;
}
._hd img {
opacity: .85;
}
._hd a:hover img {
opacity: 1;
}
See demo at http://jsfiddle.net/audetwebdesign/QTxy9/
The parent .wrap block has text-align: center, and this will center the child ._hd div's that have display: inline-block.
You need to reset the right margin on the last child div using ._hd:last-child.
This works pretty well if you are willing to use the inline-block display type.
Note that any white space between inline-block elements translate into a 1ex wide space, which may not be obvious when you set the margin between blocks.
All of those divs need to be in one container div that has a fixed width. Then you can apply margin: 0 auto to the container.
http://jsfiddle.net/bcMX5/9/
Try doing this:-
Give a "main" DIV outside all img DIV "<div id="main">"
and give "margin: 0 auto;" along with some width to it.
Please refer the Fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/aasthatuteja/6U2YJ/
Hope this should solve your issue!
would this be, want you want?
._hd {
margin-right: 20px;
display: block;
width:100%;
text-align: center;
}
Forget about margin and float ;) http://jsfiddle.net/bcMX5/8/
._hd {
//margin-right: 20px;
display: block;
//float: left;
text-align: center;
}
Depends on how you want to center the elements? If it's in a column the above answer would work. Its in a grid then wrap them in a fixed width container.
._hd_container{
width:440px;
margin:0 auto;
}

I have following fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/BFSH4/
As you see there are two issues:
The h1 and h2 aren't vertically aligned.
The nav and the content aren't horzontal alligned.
For the 1. I already tried margin and padding. No success...
The second one also isn't that easy the common ways of floating and using inline-block don't work...
What am I doing wrong?
I finally managed floating the header. The problem was that hgroup isn't a block element.
However even it worked after all I think it is better to use a real image for the enterprise name and slogan.
Now only the issue with the horizontal alignment fails.
I don't know why:
http://jsfiddle.net/BFSH4/2/
I can do what I want there is no way that they wan't to be side by side!
Solution for your first problem (found here):
HTML
<div class="header">
<span></span><img src="images/prototype.png" /><hgroup><h1>Prototype</h1><h2>SideBySide</h2></hgroup>
</div>
CSS
.header {
height: 160px;
border: 1px solid #8a2be2;
/* text-align: center; */
}
.header span {
height: 100%;
vertical-align: middle;
display: inline-block;
}
.header img {
display: inline-block;
height: 160px;
float: left; /* added, so the image will appear left to the text correctly */
}
.header hgroup {
margin: 0;
vertical-align: middle;
display: inline-block;
}
This solution depends on display: inline-block
Solution for the second problem:
.nav {
width: 229px;
display: block;
margin: 0 auto;
}
Live demo: http://jsfiddle.net/BFSH4/4/
I have a template which has 3 equally spaced boxes, the problem is that i am unable to get the last box to align correctly the first two elements.
how do i add a 3 block equally spaced box in css without tables?
my attempt http://khine.3b1.org/activities/activities.html
any advise much appreciated.
thanks
Make all three boxes float left:
.box ul.supports-list li.last {
width: 200px;
position: relative;
float: left;
}
And provide more width overall:
.box .holder .frame {
background: url(./box-b.gif) no-repeat 0 100%;
width: 620px;
padding: 18px 4px 42px 16px;
}
try to change the next CSS rules to:
.box ul.supports-list {
font-size: 11px;
list-style: none outside none;
margin: 7px 0 0;
overflow: hidden;
padding: 0;
}
.box ul.supports-list li.supports-list-item {
display: list-item;
float: left;
outline-style: none;
width: 200px;
}
.box ul.supports-list li.last {
float: left;
width: 200px;
}
My guess would be to put each box into a div, and then adjust each div's margin-left and margin-top properties to get them to all line up. You'd also want to set the float property of all of the boxes to left. It might not be the most-widely-accepted way of doing things, but that's how I usually solve problems like this.
You can take a look at this example jsFiddle I did for you here: http://jsfiddle.net/Cwca22/g8x5E/ - Hope this helps!
