(Haven't received any love on Adobe forums, so trying this here)
So, I've formally logged a bug against this with Adobe as I've been beating my head against a wall trying to understand why this won't work, but I'm hoping that it's perhaps something within the Flash IDE that I'm setting incorrectly (or not setting at all) that is causing the issue that I'm encountering:
I've created a container .fla that uses classes that are defined in an externally loaded swc, child.swc. I've added the .swc in the container's library path (Publish Settings > AS 3.0 Settings > Library Path) and have set its "Link Type" as "Exernal". According to Adobe's docs:
"External: The code resources found in the path are not added to the
published SWF file, but the compiler verifies that they are in the
locations you specified."
However, when using FlashDevelop's swf browsing utility after publishing the fla (and having used a reference to the class in the container class), I see that the class definition is still being added to container.swf.
Now, if I use compc and mxmlc with the appropriate options (-link-report and -load-externs), I can exclude child classes as needed and all functions as expected. However, when setting what seems to be the same options in the Flash IDE, it does not provide the same output. Unfortunately, I have some use cases where the use of the Flash IDE is essential, so a workaround would be painful.
Is this a known issue, or is there something that I'm just doing wrong (or are my expectations incorrect) in the IDE?
Thanks in advance.
have you made sure, that these classes are not accidentally included in your source path?
Also, try setting the flex sdk in the Flash IDE (Settings > ActionScript > ActionScript 3.0 Settings). Then try again publishing, it will now use the flex compiler.

I'm new to elipse php. i have used dream viewer for my php development before moving to the eclipse. So, i need to know when i drag and drop the css file into html editor, it needs to auto genarate the <link> tag for that css file. It worked with dream viewer. But its not working with eclipse. And, also when i need to use css classes inside html tag it needs to type the css class name. But, instead that i need to know how to config that to all the css class as suggestion for html tags, like in dream viewer and netBeans.
The text DnD (Drag and Drop) feature (initially introduced by bug 11624 in 2007) has been slowly extended to various editors, as reported by the bug 231294:
Tested in EclipsePdt-2.2.0.v20100427
Verified fixed for:
PHP files
JS files
Still reproducible in:
CSS files
HTML files
XML files (source view)
So it is still "work in progress".
The relevant blocking issues are:
bug 178104: [DND] Need to revisit dnd API to allow multiple drop targets
bug 173405: Make use of IDragAndDropService (Show Votes)
bug 195655: Drag'n'drop selected text
First of all Eclipse is not an IDE, it's a platform you can build IDEs (or any other application). There are several implementations for different languages. Most popular one which is actually the origin of Eclipse is Java IDE. There is also a plugin/feature for PHP development, called PDT.
DreamViewer is a specialized WYSIWYG editor for web development (mostly around HTML/CSS/Javascript) that includes support for different web scripting languages. It has some special properties as you mentioned, that can create a link element when you DnD.
What you can do is request a new feature from PDT team, that creates a link element to the dropped file inside a HTML document.
Ok first of thanks for reading..
first off to tell you what im doing. im editing the action script of an swf file
ok i decompiled it got a folder containing the as and the fla-flash part of the swf
now i edited what i needed to in the few as files.
now the question is the fla no longer has all the as that was in the swf it is in the folder along with the orignal fla that was made
how do i go ahead and compile all the as and fla together to publish the swf again
again note if i try to publish the fla it is half the size (the as part isnt in there)
is there a way i can do this easily.?
thanks again
any helpful comments greatly appreciated thanks again
again note if i try to publish the fla it is half the size (the as
part isnt in there)
This shouldn't happen because of .as files not being compiled. It should be because you must be missing some other symbols and their linkages in your fla.
I hope you are using some tool like Adobe Professional CS5 etc for editing and seeing the fla
Check whether the ActionScript Settings has the correct folder for the sources file
In your main document of the fla, check whether the Document class is set. You can also click on the pen mark beside the document to open it up.
check your library containing all the symbols and their linkages
This is more of a problem with your decompiler. First off, you shouldn't be using one since the majority of them out there are far from perfect. You didn't exactly give enough details other than the fact that you want to get your decompiler to work, so I don't see what the issue is.
In the Flash Authoring Tool, I can embed an FLV file as any class I wish as long as the class is a child of MovieClip. This is achieved by selecting the "Export for ActionScript" option and entering a MovieClip-extending "Base Class".
I need to achieve this with Flex too. How can I embed an FLV and make it be a MovieClip-extending class?
It sounds like you can't embed an FLV, based on these docs
To Quote:
You can embed any file type in a Flex application as a bit map array. However, Flex does not recognize or process files other than those described previously. If you embed any other file type, you must provide the transcode logic to properly present it to the application user.
It is even mentioned in the comments that this is a limitation. Your best bet, if possible, is to load the flv asset at runtime.
In aN AIR app [including mobile] you can the FLX as part of your distribution and load it from there. In a web app, just put it in the directory.
I'm working on a AS3/AIR based project, I'm using FDT5 as main tool, but in order to work properly with the other members of my team I need to deploy the AIR in FlashBuilder4.
I used the powerfull FDTFontLibrary tool provided with FDT5 to collect the fonts I need in a swc file. Everything works fine, unless I get back to FlashBuilder where a lot of error like this showup: Description Resource Path Location Type
1044: Interface method addPreloadedRSL in namespace mx.core:IFlexModuleFactory not implemented by class _IndesitMI_mx_managers_SystemManager. IndesitMI line 23 Flex Problem
Does anyone have knowledge of limits of tricks that need to be done to have it working properly?
Thanks!
It's hard to say exactly what the issue is; however, it seems it's related to either the AIR runtime you're targeting and/or the SDK you're using. To fix this, make sure you're targeting the latest AIR (3.1+) and Flex SDK (4.6).
I also commented out the instantiation of the Font library.
I loaded your FB 4 project into FB 4.6 and it would not work at all (without the font library). I tried a few different things, such as creating a new description.xml, but it still would not compile. This is likely because of some settings in some of hidden the dot (.) files.
Instead I created a blank project in Flash Builder 4.6 and then loaded the font SWC you created via FDT. The font SWC works fine.
It seems to me that the issue is not the Font SWC or FDT, but rather related to the AIR or Flex SDK you're using, or the instantiation of the font library.
See it working in Flash Builder 4.6 below:
I am no flash expert however I need to edit the source of the flash project here: http://tools.assembla.com/1pixelout/browser/audio-player/
It's the "Wordpress audio player" I need to remove the skip forward and back buttons when there is more than one audio file.
Anyone know how to first of all use this folder structure, I thought it would simply be a .fla file that you edit but it seems to be loads of files. And then how do I compile it?
Thanks in advance,
Stefan
It appears to be FLA-based, meaning you will need to purchase a copy of Flash Professional (what version you need depends on the version of the FLA file).
It depends on how it was coded, either you need to edit the graphics / layout inside the FLA file, or you need to edit the code in one of the classes. The classes can either be embedded in the FLA file, or they can be in separate standalone AS files.
