Is there a way of quickly show/hide of google maps markers?
I don't want to remove/re-add every time, because I basically need to display them only on mouseover and hide on mouseout.
I tried with
marker.hide()
But I kinda get an ugly error because it seems that hide is available on gmaps2 but not on gmaps3 api.
Thanks!
Does
marker.setVisible(false)
do what you need?

I've been searching an answer to this and the best i could find was here at stackoverflow, where someone explains how to insert a box of information inside the Google Maps but actually i would like to have that box side-by-side with my location.
Here is an example, just click at one of the green dots in the map, it will show you what i would like to have:
http://www.leroymerlin.pt/Site/Lojas.aspx
How can i do this? It even zooms in automatically! Wow, Google maps API V3 seems to be pretty awesome. This is cool too: goo.gl/WDMYmz . Not related though..
Thank you very much for all the help provided.
What you see there is a custom overlay , a implementation of the OverlayView-class
There are libraries for a convenient creation of such overlays, e.g. infobox. The zoom may be set via the setZoom-method of the map.
I am making an application with google maps.
When markers are overlapping only the last one is displayed even if the icons are different..
I do not want it to cluster in that case, rather it should show both maybe by changing the coordinates just a but??
Any solutions??
I think this is a pretty elegant solution, called Spiderfying the markers.
https://github.com/jawj/OverlappingMarkerSpiderfier
I'm thinking of using it.
What I do now is use JavaScript to make a fancy popup that hides and shows divs on one marker location (created problematically in PHP, but you could do it on JS too). It has the side benefit of allowing less markers on the map.
Click a black numbered marker on this map to see it in action.

Another option is to use Google Maps API 3 Utility Library, it has a Marker Clusterer.
I have lots of slices of (non-geographical) data that I'm trying to
view via google maps. It basically breaks down into N 'maps', each
containing M 'layers'.
This sample shows basically what I want to do:
http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/javascript/examples/map-simple.html
I can get it to switch between two different maps by providing two
custom MapTypes (much like the Map/Sattelite toggle in the sample),
but I can't figure out how to make it so I can toggle on and off an
additional overlay layer (like the 'terrain' checkbox).
The official docs vaguely mention this (
http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/javascript/maptypes.html#MapTypeInterface
) but unfortunately the bit I'm after ('See Adding MapType Controls
below') is a dead link, and I can't find this bit of the
documentation.
Does anyone know where the documentation on how to control the drop-
down toggle boxes exists?
Thanks
If you are looking to have a particular overlay appear or disappear based on a checkbox, you can check out http://geojason.info/2010/overlay-map-management-with-google-maps-api-v3/.
However, that involves checkboxes that are not actually on the map. They need to go in a sidebar or above the map or whatever. If you are hoping to be able to add things to the control where the "terrain" and the "layer" checkbox appear, I don't think there's any hooks in Google Maps API v3 to do that. I'd be happy to be wrong, but I don't think it's simple and I would expect any solution that managed to accomplish it would be brittle.
I'm trying Google Maps JavaScript API v2. I want to show a message in the map. No matter how I drag or zoom the map, the message will keep in the same place. How can I do that?
Any help is appreciated.
If I get this right, why don't you make a div that changes location using the animation of jquery?
I'm wondering if anyone knows whether it is possible to take the content of a Google Maps InfoWindow and place it in an external DIV when the marker on the map is clicked?
I've had a good dig around both the API docs and Google to see if I can find any examples or information relating to this but have had no luck so far. However I've not had a lot of time since I got asked about this one so I have had to skim a bit so it could be that I've missed something but nothing seems to be jumping out at me.
Essentially I'd just like to know if this is indeed possible so that I don't waste anymore time researching something that is currently not possible with Google Maps. However if anyone has any code, examples, or ideas about how to go about doing this then that would be a very much appreciated!
Thanks,
Mark
It's definitely possible. Just add each marker to an array, along with whatever data you want to display. Add a listener to each marker which will access that data when the marker is clicked.
