I have an issue that I'm running into. I'm using the grid.css file. The classes that are not mentioned are empty.
So the problem is that when there are 3 columns with images that (in pixels) are realy big in the MAIN ARTICLE AREA. They go over the size of the container. And into the SIDEBAR area. How could I fix this issue?
I hope I'm clear enough, if not let me know, I fill fix it. :)
EDIT I figured out the issue. I had to add this to the css and now the images don't go over their size.
.related articles img{
width: 100%;
}
With this it works fine.
<section class="article">
<div class="row">
<!--MAIN ARTICLE AREA-->
<div class="col span-2-of-3 col-left">
<div class="related-articles">
<div class="col span-1-of-3">
<a href="#">
<img src="img/test_img.jpg" alt="test-img">
<h3>This is a test article, I'm just trying out new things and lets see how this goes.</h3>
</a>
</div>
<div class="col span-1-of-3">
<a href="#">
<img src="img/test_img.jpg" alt="test-img">
<h3>This is a test article, I'm just trying out new things and lets see how this goes.</h3>
</a>
</div>
<div class="col span-1-of-3">
<a href="#">

</a>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<!--SIDEBAR STARTS-->
<div class="col span-1-of-3 col-right">
</div>
</div>
</section>
And the CSS
.row{
max-width: 1140px;
margin: 0 auto;
}
.article .col {
display: block;
float:left;
margin: 0.5% 0 0.5% 0;
}
.span-2-of-3 {
width: 66.13%;
}
.span-1-of-3 {
width: 32.26%;
}
.col-left{
border-top: 2px solid #f5f5f5;

float: right;
/*THE HEIGHT AND COLOR IS JUST SO I KNOW HOW IT WILL LOOK*/
height:800px;

}
JSfiddle:

Corrected Code:
.col {
display: block;
float:left;
margin: 1% 0 1% 1%;
}
.span-2-of-3 {
width: 64.6%;
}
.span-1-of-3 {
width: 31.6%;
}
You calculated your widths and margins false. Fixed it for you. It must be 100% or below in total.
Edit:
Also fixed sidebar color for you: https://jsfiddle.net/ua7o3pf9/1/
Edit 2: Fixed Code for your edited question:
Fiddle:
https://jsfiddle.net/ua7o3pf9/9/
Code:
<div class="related-articles article">
You forgot to add the class article, this is why the float:left wasnt added to your cols.
Change your .col style to:
.col {
display: block;
float:left;
margin: 1% 0 1% 1%;
}

I want to align the image to left, then its title then the text below it.
Here is the screenshot of what I want to make.
I have made DIV for each content. I dont know if its okay to do that.
I made it, because I ll have more control for individual content.
But I havent ben able to do so.
.howtocontainer {

All I did was Included image and text in one DIV
But gave a class to image by <img class="class" src"path" >
Then I did float:left to .img class.
There are 2 key points that you should notice about using float:
Float container should be set a specific width (absolute or relative width)
clear all floating items
You should change your HTML structure a little bit, and add some CSS styles:
.firstpic {
float: left;
width: 300px; /*this width is equal with its image's width */
}
.description {
float: left;
width: calc(100% - 300px);
}
/* Clear floating item */
.firstsection::after {
display: table;
content: "";
clear: both;
}
<div class="firstsection">
<div class="firstpic">
<img src="the-image-on-left-side">
</div>
<div class="description">
<div class="firstsecbanner">
<img src="the-title-image-on-top">
</div>
<div class="firstsectext">
</div>
</div>
</div>
Please add absolute URL instead of relative URL to see your pictures.
Hope this helps.
A disadvantage of using floats is that it disturbs the natural document flow. You may want to consider an alternative using flexbox.
.firstsection {
display: flex;
}
.firstpic {
width: 300px;
/*this width is equal with its image's width */
}
.description {
width: calc(100% - 300px);
}
<div class="howtocontainer">

Hello I am just making a base template to help me make a website a lot better, I have just recently started using bootstrap and have noticed that when I resize my browser (for example to a mobile size) it is overlapping on my footer?
Does anyone know why this is happening?
Here are some images of when I add more text or resize:
Like I say I am fairly new to bootstrap and am most likely doing something really stupid which is easy to fix :)
Here is my css:
html, body { height:100% }
nav {
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
}
div {
display: block;
}
.col-centered {
float: none;
margin: 0 auto;
}
.center {
margin-left:auto;
margin-right:auto;
margin: 0 auto;
}
.left {
float: left;
}
.right {
float: right;
}
.container {
width: 100%;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
height:100%;
background:red;
}
.content {
padding: 5rem 1.5rem;
text-align: left;
height:90%;
width:75%;
margin:0 auto;
background: green;
}
footer {
background: grey;
height:10%;
width:75%;
margin:0 auto;
}
Here is my main HTML:
<div class="container">
<div class="content">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-auto col-centered">
<h1>Base Template Title</h1>
<p>Text would go here...</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<?php include "footer.php" ?>
EDIT: I forgot to include the footer, if you think that I need to add this for you then please let me know.
Thank you very much for even looking at this post!
EDIT 2:
Here is the code for my footer:
<footer>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-auto">
<p class="float-right">Back to top</p>
<p>© 2017 Company, Inc. · Privacy · Terms</p>
</div>
</div>
</footer>
Here is the link to the website:
http://81.131.193.35/
Remove the height of .content
.content {
padding: 5rem 1.5rem;
text-align: left;
width: 75%;
margin: 0 auto;
background: green;
}
and also remove the height of .container
.container {
width: 100%;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
background: red;
}
I would wrap the footer.php in a pair of divs and apply a row and col-md-auto class to it. It looks like the footer is maybe styled with an absolute or even a static display. This is making the footer not play along with the other divs
<div class="container">
<div class="content">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-auto col-centered">
<h1>Base Template Title</h1>
<p>Text would go here...</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-auto">
<?php include "footer.php" ?>
</div>
</div>
</div>
I am trying to learn how to make a responsive grid layout with images. I feel i am almost there but i am having a few issues with alignment. First of all to make things easier to understand I have made a mock-up of what i am trying to achieve:
(grid will be used to display images/posts. i want to be able to mix and match them.)
Screen-shot of what i have achieved so far:
but when i add a med-box to the grid i have alignment issues. as you can see here:
(the height of the MED-BOX is slightly taller than the SML-box and the SML-BOX does not align properly.)
I also have this problem when i add another 3 x SML-BOX under a column with a MED-BOX in it:
I thought it was something to do with the % width of my "med-box" (see code below) but i have tried adjusting the width percentage and cant get it to work! Another issue I am having is when i go into mobile width, the margin on the left is off and i am not sure why. Please check out my code below or on JsFiddle: https://jsfiddle.net/shiggydoodah/z0og70wn/
I have been stuck on this for awhile now and i really need to some expert advice. If anyone knows how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated if could share it with me.
Many Thanks
Louis

First of all there are a few issues with how you are using your grid. Whenever you float an element you essentially remove said element from the document flow. This means subsequent elements will not know how to position themselves in the natural flow of things. You need to ensure you use a clear in order to negate the effects of a float.
In additional the medium element needs to be set to 66% width to account for the margin on the left and right of your small column class. Please see edited fiddle
CSS:
.col.med {
width: 66%;
padding: 0;
}
I have also added a clear to your row class:
.row::after {
content: "";
display: table;
clear: both;
}
I have also removed the use of the !important statement you've implemented. This is a very bad practice to adopt as if you are using inheritance correctly and the natural cascading nature of CSS then you will not need to explicitly try to override anything using this method.
This issue is due to the proportions of your MED-BOX image.
You should crop it a little bit with some modifications on your .row css properties.
.row {
margin: 0 auto 15px;
width: 100%;
max-height: 455px;
overflow: hidden;
}
I equally add a bottom margin per row as the overflow hidden behavior cause the .col bottom margin property to be hidden by the row overflow.
You have to clear each row when you have floating elements inside of it and overflow: hidden so that it could fill the height.
.row
{
clear:both;
overflow: hidden;
}
I have tried everything to get a div of dynamic width (highlightsContainer) to center within its parent. I think it has something to do with the fact that this div takes up 100% of the parent container width, no matter what I do.
I have tried to set it to inline-block, but that does not fix it. Dev Tools still shows it as taking up 100% of the parent container width. The children of .highlightsContainer are not forcing it to this width.
Here is my markup:
<div class="highlightsContainerWrapper">
<div class="highlightsContainer">
<a href="#video">
<div class="highlightEntry">
<img src="../img/portfolio/lr/lr-highlight-1.png" />
<div class="highlightLabel">Mobile Site</div>
</div>
</a>
<a href="#email">
<div class="highlightEntry">
<img src="../img/portfolio/lr/lr-highlight-2.png" />
<div class="highlightLabel">Video Gallery</div>
</div>
</a>
<a href="#social">
<div class="highlightEntry">
<img src="../img/portfolio/lr/lr-highlight-3.png" />
<div class="highlightLabel">jQuery Modals</div>
</div>
</a>
<a href="#blog">
<div class="highlightEntry">
<img src="../img/portfolio/lr/lr-highlight-4.png" />
<div class="highlightLabel">SEO</div>
</div>
</a>
</div>
</div>
And my CSS:
.highlightsContainerWrapper {
float: left;
}
.highlightsContainer {
display: inline-block;
margin: 0 auto;
}
.highlightEntry {
width: 18%;
margin: 3% 1%;
float: left;
position: relative;
overflow: hidden;
border: 1px solid #fcfbe7;
}
You can do something like this:
.highlightsContainerWrapper {
float: left;
width: 100%;
text-align: center;
}
Works for dynamically generated content. You won't have to set a width on .highlightsContainer
Working jsFiddle demo
To add to the previous comment, this could also work as well without having to have the width be 100 percent each time if you don't want it to be.
.highlightsContainerWrapper {
float: left;
text-align:center;
}
Then you can make the width whatever you want it to be.
Hoped that helped you center the div
So, I've been trying to create a horizontal scrolling page on my website. I set the entire scroll portion to 400%, as I have four pages. However, I was wondering is it possible(using CSS, jQuery, etc.) to cut up that 400% so that I can use 0-100% for the first page, 100%-200% for the second page, etc.? Or is there another way around this (I've been trying to accomplish this for cross-browser/screen size compatibility). I've only managed to do this so far using hard pixels, but is there a way to change that into percentages?
HTML:
<div id="transition-slide-container">
<div id="transition-slide">
<div id="inner-container>
<div class="slide" id="home">
<h1>home</h1>
</div>
</div>
<div class="slide" id="portfolio">
<div id="inner-container">
<h1>portfolio</h1>
</div>
</div>
<div class="slide" id="about">
<div id="inner-container">
<p>about</p>
</div>
</div>
<div class="slide" id="contact">
<div id="inner-container">
<p>contact<p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
CSS:
div#transition-slide-container {
background: #bee1ff;
padding-top: 128px;
padding-bottom: 50px;
height: 900px;
min-width: 400%;
z-index: -1;
float: left;
position: relative;
}
div#transition-slide {
white-space: nowrap;
}
.slide {
display: inline-block;
width: 1620px;
margin: 0 auto;
}
div#inner-container {
width: 1024px;
margin: 0 auto;
padding: 0;
}
Website: andrewgu12.kodingen.com
you can set your .slide width to 100% and give background-color: #bee1ff; to your body.
demo
and where is your #inner-container in html?
translition slide should have width of 400% and each slide 100%. The container would be width 100%, overflow:hidden if you want to do this with javascript/anchors or overflow-x:scroll;
you could give 100% width to your .slide class
.slide {
display: inline-block;
width: 100%;
margin: 0 auto;
}
