You should use be using the Cordova CLI for your command line workflow for building Cordova Apps. For Cordova, more information is available here. If you want to use VS, then I strongly urge you to install our VS 2015 RC build which enables you to build Cordova applications for iOS, Android and Windows. More information for VS, is available here.

Autofac.Mef and WinRT

I'm having troubles while trying to add the Metadata of Autofac. I have to install the package "Autofac Extras: Metadata Attribute Support" which need Autofac.Mef. When installing this package, I get a message saying that I try to install Autofac.Mef 4.0.0 in a project targeting «portable-net45+win+wpa81» and that the package doesn't contain any file supporting this. (Same message with Autofac.Mef 3.0.3).
I could probably find a way to make my project work without Autofac's Metadata but I don't understand why this package isn't compatible with Windows Phone 8.1. Is there a solution to this issue?
Thanks in advance
Thomas
If you download the Autofac.Mef package manually and then open it up in NuGet Package Explorer you'll see that the Autofac.Mef package only targets .NET 4.5 apps - you can't use it in Windows Phone.
The reason for this is that the original framework MEF is only compatible with the full .NET framework. There's a "lighter weight" MEF 2 framework that is compatible with Windows Phone 8.1 but that's not the one Autofac.Mef works with.
There's no way to fix it. There's also no current plan to switch Autofac.Mef to using the Microsoft.Composition package.

VS2013 and WPTooklit (version from AUG 2013)

Quick question for anyone out there. I'm trying to install the August edition of the NuGet package of the wptoolkit. Unfortunately, I can't get it to show up under VS2013 Pro. Has anyone been able to get this to work?
You would have to browse to the dll which contains the controls to add them to the toolbox. In my project browse to the Packages folder of that project and then go to WPtoolkit.4.2013.08.16\lib\sl4-windowsphone71\Microsoft.Phone.Controls.Toolkit.dll
Even though it is a WP8 project, it only seems to work if you put in the 7.1 dll in the toolbox, otherwise if does not load. The only controls that don't work are LongListSelector and MultiSelect as they are now part of the base WP8 framework controls. Even though they are in the toolbox, when you try to drop them on your page you will get an error. All other controls seem to work just fine.
It should show up once you obtained it from NuGet.
Open Package Manager
Type in Install-Package WPtoolkit and press enter
Then, it'll be downloaded and imported into your project, so it should show up in the References folder.

Gradle build errors with Android Studio
(3 answers)
Closed 9 years ago.
I have just set up Android Studio 0.2.2 and updated my Android SDK to the latest version.
I have exported my Android project (android:minSdkVersion="8", android:targetSdkVersion="15") in Eclipse by 'Generate Gradle Build Files' without (visible) problems. And I can export/compile my app in Eclipse just fine, it also runs fine in the emulator.
However, in Android Studio, when trying to import my project, I am confronted with the above error message. "Gradle Home" is (IMO, correctly) displayed as "D:\Prog\Android-Studio\plugins\gradle".
Any idea how to make Android Studio feel more comfortable on my computer?..
I've encountered a similar problem where I can't import my project. There is at least one answer out there that may help; it requires the creation of a blank project in Android Studio and then copy files over from Eclipse. This ensures the creation by Android Studio of the necessary Gradle files, etc. Here's the link to the full answer: Gradle build errors with Android Studio
Look's like you should try to use the Gradle Wrapper rather than a local Gradle distribution. According to Gradle's website (http://www.gradle.org/docs/current/userguide/gradle_wrapper.html):
The wrapper is something you should check into version control. By distributing the wrapper with your project, anyone can work with it without needing to install Gradle beforehand. Even better, users of the build are guaranteed to use the version of Gradle that the build was designed to work with. Of course, this is also great for continuous integration servers (i.e. servers that regularly build your project) as it requires no configuration on the server.
You'll need to mimic the following structure in your project's directory:
simple/
gradlew
gradlew.bat
gradle/wrapper/
gradle-wrapper.jar
gradle-wrapper.properties
At that point, go to Settings (Windows) Preferences (Mac), click "Gradle" on the left hand side, choose "Use Gradle wrapper (recommended)". If that option isn't available, try restarting Android Studio or closing and reimporting your project. Checking this option should ensure that you always build with the correct Gradle distribution.

Upgrading umbraco from 4 to 6

I would like to install Umbraco 6.1.x, but my host suffers from this issue: http://issues.umbraco.org/issue/U4-1632
Basically, I can't install 6 due to an incompatibility with MySQL on Linux and Umbraco 6, but I read that I can upgrade from 4.x.x and then upgrade to 6. The question is, how do I do that? I.e. what files do I need to upload and edit such that the database remains, but all umbraco files are version 6?
Yes, according to the bug report you can install a Umbraco v4.11.x and then upgrade this to v6.1.x and this should work fine.
The downloads are all available here: http://our.umbraco.org/download
However, the easiest way to get Umbraco set up is to use NuGet in Visual Studio. So you could run the following line from the NuGet console:
Install-Package UmbracoCms -Version 4.11.10
You'll have to use the console for this because if you use the Package manager, it will just install the latest Umbraco package version.
Next, load your site in a browser and configure the database settings. Then upgrade using NuGet again. I find the easiest way to do this is to open the NuGet package manager in Visual Studio, select "Updates", find the Umbraco package and click "Update". This will automatically update all the files for you.
You will then need to load up the site again, at which point it will prompt you to upgrade, and you can just follow the steps in the wizard.

JavaFx 2 applicaton does not run when i run it through HTML page

I have downloaded the javafx 2 samples and want to run in from its HMTL. For example there is one javafx application called BrickBreaker. For the specific sample the following files exist : BrickBreaker.jar, BrickBreaker.jnlp and BrickBreaker.html
When double clicking on jar or jnlp the application runs as expected but when i click on the html the application does not run. Instead i get the message "View the conectes of the page. Please install javaFX"
Why is that happening ? ( i have the javafx installed as the application runs when choosing the jar and jnlp files). My guess is that the html should be called from within the context of a webserver meaning that i should deploy my application first to a server and call the url from my explorer. For example if using glassfish i should call the url http://localhost:8080/Brickbraker
The problem is that i don't know how to deploy the javafx application in the server.
i tried to copy paste all the above three files in the autodeploy folder but it didnt worked...
Could you please help me?
Thanks in advance
EDIT: some more info - I have installed JDK 7 and JavaFX SDK 2.0.2
No, JavaFX is client technology, you don't need Glassfish to run it. JavaFX should run in browser the same way as Java plugins do.
If you can't run an application directly from html file it means your browser doesn't recognize you have runtime installed.
There can be next reasons for that:
JavaFX runtime is actually not installed (check in Windows Control Panel)
pure java plugin is not installed (you can check on java.com)
javafx runtime is 32bit and you are using 64bit browser (or vice versa)
you are using not supported browser (e.g. Safari)
you are using not supported system (at this moment, January 2012, only Windows supports runtime)
